This campsite is nestled in the deep woods of a 120 acre farm that offers beautiful views coming and going. After being allowed to use the restroom at the stone farmhouse, you will then go rustic and start your 3/4 - 1 mile hike in (approximately 20 minutes to the campsite) past the fields and pond down the path into the woods. The trail is remote and you will instantly be able to leave the sights and sounds of civilization behind you and breath the clean forest air. Wear good hiking shoes because portions of the hike are uneven and rocky. This site is best for experienced campers who know how to pack light with just the essentials as there is no tractor service to this campsite. When you arrive at the campsite, you will be within 20 feet of a year round stream with brook trout and in a hundred foot tall hemlock canopy nestled between two brook meadows. A 9,000 acre forested preserve abuts our property so you will be able to completely relax, bird watch, enjoy the wildlife, or fish for a brook trout breakfast without hearing the sounds of anyone but yourselves. The campsite has a stone fire pit, split log benches for seating, a canvas privacy blind around a stand of trees where the composting toilet resides, and a food bag lift to attach your food and trash bags to about 100 yards from the campsite. Unlimited Split firewood is free next to where you will park that you can take down to the site. All trash needs to be carted out with you. We can't accept mixed trash as it will attract animals that will knock over the trashcans and make a mess. No food goes in our personal trashcans as we have learned this the hard way. This land was once all pasture for grazing animals. We moved to Delaware County in November 2018 to start our family and pursue dreams of working on the land. The initial idea was to find a place we could live, garden, and raise a few animals while hosting guests and sharing the land with visitors. When we found this place on Williams Road, we loved the mix of rural and proximity to a thriving country town. We now have two kids and enjoy living in Delhi so much we hardly leave the town limits! There are wonderful restaurants, a great year-round farmers market, grocery stores, and many other services and amenities you can find listed towards the end of this guide. Our Catskill Mountain home is situated on a historic early 19th century farm site. Parts of the house might be more than 190 years old! With several additions and upgrades we think the house has lots of charm and enjoy the many modern touches. The property is overgrown pastures and a few steeper slopes with medium growth trees. After the industrial period saw this region nearly deforested, the land was granted to settlers who cleared fields and planted grass. Our immediate vicinity was knows for it’s cattle (Bovina), mostly for diary, and sheep. The agriculture in Delaware County has been on a decline since the advent of rail shipping opened New York City markets to farms in less challenging geographies. Construction of the NYC fresh water system (DEP Watershed) may have contributed to this decline, but about 60-70 years ago the majority of pastures, especially less productive parcels were abandoned to the “weed trees”. These first succession trees grew quickly in the sunny meadows and covered the hills; trees such as Ash, Hawthorn, and Norway Spruce. Fences and barns were left to return to the earth. On our property the stone walls that boarder the fields are the most stark reminder of the intensive agriculture practiced here.

No true trails are available, but you can be adventurous and hike further up the mountain, arriving to a clearing, providing you with a lovely mountainous view. We had a group not understand this so I want to make sure it is clear. Firewood is for sale here for CASH! Please bring CASH with you. Sixty acres of magical trees, a one acre pond, and a three acre field. From the road there is a two hundred foot elevation gain to the top of the hill. Along the way are several hundred feet of rock ledges, caves, and critters. Most of the land is sloping, but the hilltop is flat as a table, with prehistoric-looking ferns under a dense canopy of mature trees. The campsites are ultra secluded- about a quarter mile apart from each other. All sites include a fire pit, cooking grate, picnic table, and sites 2&3 have platforms. Camp ONE: is on the top of the hill, and a small car can be driven to within 150 feet of it. It is pretty flat, and surrounded by blackberry bushes, ferns, and trees. Camp TWO: is on a bluff overlooking a picturesque swamp, filled with hemlock trees and ferns. This site can not be driven to with anything less than a high clearance SUV (ie- jeep wrangler), so I consider it a hike in site. It is under a ten minute walk from the pond and parking lot, but the view and feel is worth it. (It has been brought to our attention that there is occasionally a group riding atvs on a neighboring property that are audible from this site. We have no control over what time it happens, so please keep this in mind) Camp THREE: is accessible with a four wheel drive vehicle, something at least as high as an SUV. It is the closest to the house and pond, but still far enough to feel secluded and completely private. If you choose to walk there, it’s only a couple minutes from the parking area. Throughout the property, there are many quiet places to hang out, flat spots to do yoga, trails to explore, and fishing and swimming in the beautiful pond. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. All are off-grid and rustic but close enough to the house and parking area to have convenience, and far enough—and hidden out of view—to offer real privacy. (About a 4-minute walk from your shared toilet/supply/storage shed by driveway.) Tent area has cleared flat pads for two small tents. Location is far enough from things that you can walk a minute into the woods and feel lost to civilization, yet only two miles of paved road from downtown Windham and all that the cozy resort town has to offer. Makes a great basecamp for exploring the rest of the Northern Catskills, or a hideaway to stay and get lost in. Hike miles of trails and old logging roads in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest, starting literally steps from your campsite. Swim in the large spring-fed pond, or just watch the colorful koi swim. Sit around the fire and reflect on the day’s adventures. Or just take in the wide-open views of distant mountains and starry skies. Note: the only "Kitchen available" (Hipcamp's wording) is a grill over firepit. Also, toilet is a bucket-style dry composting toilet with urine diversion inside a protected shed. The fall, cool crisp days and changing leaves are just a few short weeks away. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. everything you’ll ever need for a cozy stay outdoors. we chose this spot because of the tiny shelter it afforded during what was going to be below freezing temps. The kitchen space and bed set up was much appreciated and allowed us to focus enjoying the stay itself. The owners were super helpful getting us setup and providing a welcoming space. Bring layers and everything you need to keep warm in the winters - we even caught a light snow storm on our morning of departure! would come back again.

Weekend Trip to Terrace Farm Phoenicia

We absolutely loved the Beechwood site!! It was private and well-maintained, complete with firewood, a clean outhouse with composting toilet, a really nice fire pit, and a container of non potable water. A few steps away from the hiking trail that led us to an amazing view at the lookout point, and there is a fresh spring at the base of the trail. Adele is a wonderful host, and her farm is truly beautiful. The 3 camp sites are spaced far apart in the woods behind the farm, and the Beechwood site in particular comfortably accommodates one large tent (there were two of us staying), and also has a picnic table with benches, and a wooden rocking chair by the fire. We had an awesome time, and we’ll will definitely be back!

Spring 2023: Maplewood received extensive flood/water damage over the winter requiring extensive drainage work and regrading. We also added a layer of fresh sawdust to the tent area on all our tent sites for a more comfortable nights sleep.

Our stay at this site was amazing. The site itself was beautiful and perfect for tent camping. The hike in isn’t too bad and is short enough that you can make a couple trips if absolutely needed. Many things like a pan, saw, axe, and firewood were already provided on site which was definitely a pleasant surprise. Jeremy was super helpful and responsive whenever we had any questions. I would definitely recommend this site to people who are looking for camping with a bit more privacy. I would definitely consider coming back for another trip.
