The River's Edge campsites sit on the shoreline of the Delaware River at the western edge of New York State overlooking the mountains of Pennsylvania. Our canvas tents and open air platforms perch between the river and the former Delaware & Hudson Canal which was once was used to transport raw goods by barge to New York City via the 'port' of Port Jervis. The remnants of the canal walls are throughout the property including a 300 person theater which we created to both preserve and feature this industrial history. It also makes a great place for an event or a movie night. Today, the original canal towpath, along which barges would be pulled and floated downstream, is a trail that links all of the campsites over 5 acres and at the furthest end an eel fishing camp that is in operation from June to October (say 'hi' to Jim). In the early 1900s, the train replaced the canal as the primary method of moving goods into New York and if you are lucky — you will hear the train rumble by along the river on the Pennsylvania side. There is something spectacular in the absolute still and grandness of the river, the mountains and the ongoing industrial history of the valley. It is a reminder of the way things used to be. The farmhouse and cabins are located opposite the campsites on other side of route 97. Next to them are 50 acres of wild forest to hike and explore. These accommodations are great for guests who want more amenities but still with easy access to river. Pair campsites and cabins so that all your guests have their best experience. Great location, not the most isolated spot due to it being located right off the road, but the amenities and the convenience of them are fantastic. It suddenly turned pretty cold during our stay and the campground staff were very helpful with freeze warning notifications. We’d love to return when it’s warmer out! Lovely place and lovely management,super helpful. Decks overseeing the river were hightlight. We wished there was availablity. Clean updated bathrooms. If you are into fishing it might be the perfect place. We werent but still enjoyed it. There is reception so u can use ur phones( i had to use for work) . No need to buy firewood etc from outside.

This campground was a total surprise wasn’t sure what to expect when I first booked it. When I first reached out to them they couldn’t have been nicer. Showed up and everything seemed to be very well kept. New water and electric the decking was a nice touch with the gravel. The bathrooms are very well kept and clean, the owner just seemed like they couldn’t do enough for you. The campsite rest on the beautiful river full of trout. I will be returning for sure, very please.

This Delaware River front RV campsite is not for everyone. Stay away if you want lots of planned activities and golf cards whizzing by all the time! Stay away if you hate rafting down an amazing river! Stay away if you love hearing loud music from 5 campsites away! Stay away if beautiful river-front scenery is too boring for you. Stay away if campfires by the river during a star filled night is just too mundane. Stay away if you hate it when campsite staff make every effort to ensure your stay is great. Yeah, this place sucks, stay away! But seriously, what's not to love!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cooperstown Beaver Valley. The campground and public areas were incredibly clean. The children's playground was very colorful and inviting for the younger children. Safety was also considered as the area is fully fenced. They had an egg hunt for the littles the weekend we stayed and the kids seemed to love it. Lastly, the staff was very kind and responsive, providing many local attractions that might be of interest in the area. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are considering gifting our son and his family a weekend stay next year as their "family holiday gift" this Christmas.

Loved this campground! No spot is too far from the river, there are amenities for the kids, and a little bandstand where they appear to show films on the weekends. I only stayed one night, but I will return for longer!

This was our first time out in our hybrid pop out and this particular site was perfect for us. When we arrived, check in was easy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved this site because it was facing the open yard area which was great for our 4 and 1 year old to run around in. We liked being near the exit too because it gave us a little extra space to navigate parking and setting up. Overall a great experience. Penny was easy to communicate with and a great host!

Where to go

Delaware Wild Forest

Around a 30-minute drive north of Roscoe, the Delaware Wild Forest is located in the western Catskill Forest Preserve and has more than 47 miles of recreational trails with 28 miles designated as snowmobile trails. There are four lean-to shelters located in the wild forest.

Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River

To the south of Roscoe, the Delaware River offers plenty of recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, and hiking. There’s also the chance of spotting wintering bald eagles along the river. River users can use the water access-only Pennsylvania State Forest primitive camping area within the Buckhorn Natural Area of Delaware State Forest.

Hudson Highlands

With more than 70 miles of trails, ranging from easy to challenging, spread over 8,000 acres, Hudson Highlands State Park, around an hour and a half south of Roscoe, offers plenty of opportunity for activities with a scenic mountainous backdrop. Campers can spend the night at Fahnestock State Park on the eastern side of the Hudson Highlands.

Big Indian Wilderness

Covering 33,500 acres around an hour northeast of Roscoe, the Big Indian Wilderness Area is home to the longest (30 miles) stretch of trail through uninterrupted virgin forest in the Catskills. There are five lean-tos located trailside throughout the area, as well as other designated campsites. Primitive camping is also allowed.

When to go

With its promise of long, sunny days ideal for enjoying the great outdoors, summer is the most popular time of year to visit Roscoe and the Catskills. However, the season can bring crowded trails and booked-up campsites. September and October are also popular with visitors arriving to see fall foliage. Winters have the appeal of being relatively crowd-free and offer skiing and snowshoeing.
