The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Weekend Trip to Locust Grove Waterfall

The site was so beautiful. The water was pristine! Quiet. It was everything we wanted. The layout with the other tents is crazy! I wish my daughters wanted to go! It was like a tent town! Thankful that they can't be rented out while we were there. Provides the privacy and stillness we prefer. The wagon accommodation is key. Electric in the tent was very helpful for my old phone and keeping the music going. Highly recommend! Maybe next year I can convince the family to come! Lol

A beautiful, private retreat that is well-kept and inviting. We mostly go camping for Henry … Monica’s site is Henry approved. Oh, the private waterfall with the cleanest water, providing white noise capabilities at all times? 10/10. 2 nights at Otters and Eagles Cabin

The location was beautiful and wonderfully private while still being easy to get to. Mark was very friendly with just giving us a basic tour and then left us unbothered the rest of the time. The name of the place is accurate as we watched otters play our first night and saw eagles a few times as well as a lot of other wildlife. I have put this place at the top of my list for when I need a peaceful woodsy getaway in the future. It was perfect.

The property was very nice - easy to find, very peaceful. The cabin was decent, and the price for the night was reasonable for what was offered.

Weekend Trip to Otters and Eagles Cabin

My best friend and I had a lovely time at Mark’s cabin. The property is so peaceful and well-equipped to make for an stress-free stay. We enjoyed sitting by the pond with our books and making a fire with s’mores at night. There are plenty of things to do nearby; we enjoyed visiting a local coffee shop and bookstore and hiking. Thank you Mark for such a relaxing weekend and for being such a thoughtful host!

Weekend Trip to Escape...to Mariaville Goat Farm!

I can't say enough good things about my and my 7-year-old's experience at Mariaville Goat Farm. Ed and Rick have created a beautiful environment on their working farm, and the ambience of the place- which is chock-a-block with assemblage art, sculpture, and whimsical structures for guests to stay in- made for a magical experience, start to finish. I highly recommend ordering their dinners and breakfasts, which are packed in coolers for picnics and which were made from locally sourced ingredients and much more haute cuisine than I expected (house-baked pastries, cheese plates, individual skillet-cooked chili and mac and cheese, creamery ice cream delivered in an insulated thermos). We stayed in the treehouse in a bell tent, which was well insulated against the brief rainstorm that rolled in overnight. The treehouse has everything you need for a comfortable, enjoyable "glamping" experience, and I was impressed with all of the thoughtful added touches. The stars of this experience were the farm's eponymous goats, who were beautifully healthy, friendly and calming. My daughter had a blast cuddling, walking the grounds and doing yoga with them! My one note is that the mattress in the bell tent, which I think is an air mattress, was somewhat deflated. I may bring my own when I come back.

3 nights at Otters and Eagles Cabin

We do a mother-daughter camping trip each summer and have always done a tent at a state park in the past. This year, the forecast showed thunderstorms for our entire trip - bummer. I went searching for a cabin available for our dates and found Mark's place! We absolutely loved our stay at Otters and Eagles Cabin! We got to enjoy a campfire, hammock, and some quiet time with nature with the bonus of amenities like real beds, electricity and running water, a kitchen equipped with everything we needed for cooking, and, of course, a roof over our heads when it rained. I'd seen reviews raving about the outdoor shower, and it lived up to the hype. There's a long-drop outhouse, which was fine for me, but my kid was very glad to have the option of the compost toilet in the cabin. Within a 10 min drive there was horseback riding at Cinch 'Em Up Stables (call ahead to reserve a time), mini golf and ice cream, and a Cumberland Farms for essentials. After this experience I think I may be ready to give up sleeping on the ground and packing up a wet tent for good, and embrace Otters and Eagles Cabin as part of our annual tradition. The time I saved by not having to set up a campsite, haul firewood, and pack all the things, was well spent playing cards with my kid!

Weekend Trip to Otters and Eagles Cabin

Mark’s cabin was wonderful! The kitchen is fully stocked and there is electricity and indoor potable water which made my stay very, very easy. The beds and the mattresses in the loft are comfortable (just bring pillows and comforters or sleeping bags) and the cabin itself is beautiful and cozy. The indoor dry composting toilet is convenient for not needing to go outside in the nighttime (it’s so clean and doesn’t smell at all). Additional shoutouts to the blue outhouse (view is great) and hot outdoor shower. Mark was attentive, very communicative, and kind (thank you for the extra ice!). Already planning my next stay here.

Weekend Trip to Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat

Our stay at the Wildflower cabin was amazing. The cabin was extremely beautiful! We especially loved all the screened windows so we could listen to the peepers and the falls at night. The community kitchen was well stocked and very useful. The waterfalls are a must see, wow they were so beautiful. Highly recommend!

1 night at Lake Lauderdale Campground

We really enjoyed our stay here! While we only stayed for a night, it was evident that it was equipped with everything you would need. We stayed in the small cabin, which was a very short walk from the restrooms, had a great view of the sunset, AND had AC. Finally, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the incredibly kind staff who checked us in upon arrival and made us feel right at home. We will certainly come back someday to try out their tent site options!
