Weekend Trip to Rancho Algo Mas

Really lovely people (their son is such a mature little man and a real help too!) and definitely a super private spot! Walk down to the creek it's so lovely. Yes it's buggy but that's the trade off of being in nature - they give you bug spray and leave you firewood to make a nice camp fire at night. I felt safe knowing they were close by and I was on their property. Would stay again.

Everything was PERFECT. From the river to the animals to the attention to play, freedom, relaxation and peaceful setting. This place has it ALL! Payment and reservation was stupid easy to set up. Everything was provided. Aaaaand there was shade, water, FIREFLIES and baby GOATS. Best money my tired city butt has spent in forever.

Susanne was a gracious and welcoming host and invited me to use the amenities on her property. I loved my site with the screened-in gazebo. The two nights I spent there were quiet and restful.

Weekend Trip to Casa de KAMA (The Silo)

This was such a cool and unique stay! It was such a perfect place to reconnect to the land and getaway from the city. My boyfriend and I stayed here and it was such a great place to watch the sunset, take in the views of the land, cook dinner together, and explore what Abiquiu has to offer. This Silo was not only really cool but it also came with everything you needed to make this trip memorable. I would definitely come here again!

Super easy to find and get to. Running water and electricity was a game changer for us. Nice private view of the river, and awesome fire pit set up. Cars go by through the night but really die down after about 11. Tons of harmless little flies so close those car doors quick if they bother you because they love the cab lights at night. Would absolutely come back here!

4 nights at Abiquiu Tiny House

This tiny home is perfect and Harvey is the best host. Well thought out space that is isolated enough but close to all there is to do. Highly recommend this place if you get a chance to stay here.

Weekend Trip to Elk Ridge Ranch

We enjoyed every bit of our short stay at the ranch! Our hosts were so welcoming and the animals on property were a highlight for our son. We would definitely recommend this lovely spot for anyone looking for a unique and relaxing time!

10 nights at Abiquiu Tiny House

This place is gorgeous! Harvey is an incredible host with many stories to tell. He made a consistent effort to make me comfortable and recommended local hiking spots to check out. It’s right by Abiquiu lake which has a gorgeous swimming beach, too. There’s basically no light pollution so the view of the sky at night is amazing!! I can’t wait to stay here again!

Outstanding views of a beautiful world! We missed sunset but woke up for sunrise and were not disappointed. The walk to the outhouse is well lit and the place has great energy. A bumpy ride up to the Mesa is rewarded with peaceful sanctuary!

6 nights at Rancho Algo Mas

The land was beautiful and the hosts were great. All the animals were so cute! It was such a nice big site with a composting toilet. They even left firewood for me. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Cute little spot with the river down below. It is RIGHT off the highway but quits down nicely at night. Hook ups were great!

2 nights at Elk Ridge Ranch

We were on our way home from the Grand Canyon and needed a place to take a day to rest before making the long drive to Houston. Dale and Susan were an absolute delight and wonderful hosts for our family of five. Our kids loved feeding the elk, playing with the dogs, and swimming in the pond. The area nearby is beautiful and we left feeling refreshed and ready to head home.

5 nights at Two Hawk Ranch

The hosts and the site were amazing. Sherry would interact with you as much as you wanted but was great about giving space. The property was exactly what we were hoping for - dispersed feel with a bathroom and without the fight for a spot. Cool forest service roads nearby. Wonderful animals and views.

This camp is just TOO COOL! We drove right to the camp, with no directional issue(s). I would say a daylight arrival made it simpler. The table at the camp needs repair/replacement. The cemetery completes the gifts this camp offers.

Weekend Trip to Two Hawk Ranch

Wonderful time with Sherry and Denis. Beautiful place. The dogs were the best! Our dog Cooper really enjoyed hanging out with all of them. Thanks for allowing us access to your bathroom at any time. That really made things handy. We loved the secludedness as well. Everything we needed.😊

Weekend Trip to Abiquiu Tiny House

I enjoyed staying at Harvey's place. It was a nice spot to jump off and explore the area. All of the things one would need are here. The weather was a bit brisk at night, so having a cozy place to sleep was nice. Cooking facilities are more than adequate, as is everything else. I was solo for this trip, but a couple would have plenty of room to stay here and enjoy. Harvey gave me exact directions two days before my arrival and was available to answer any questions. Spot was quiet and not too far from places I chose nearby to go on adventures. Hope to return soon. Thanks, Harvey, for your hospitality.

A thoughtfully designed, comfortable space with everything you need. Extremely comfy bed, lovely native plant landscaping, stocked kitchen, fabulous shower, expansive views and fresh breezes, night skies and coyote calls, proximity to excellent pizza. Thanks, Pat, for making such great use of the place and space! Couldn't ask for base camp to romp around the area - of course Ghost Ranch is nearby but the Casa is also spitting distance to Plaza Blanca, Poshuouinge, the amphitheater, the reservoir, the arch, sport climbing, Carson access...

We encourage campers to mingle. Maybe organize a group float down the Chama. The float from just above Bodes to our very own shore is wonderful. It takes about two hours. There is one challenging spot, but beside that, the float is calm and tranquil. Please be aware, we have cats, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs that live on the property. Your pets are welcome only if they are guaranteed to not pester or hurt our posse of pets. Also, we will not tolerate excessive barking or inappropriate running around or bothering ourselves or other guests. You must pick up all your and your pets waste and take it with you when you leave. Learn more about this land: Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful and private 3 acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives. Right by the river, held by a ridge (that makes for amazing sunset hikes), I have a 16ft Yurt Canvas set up with furnishings (desk, couch, wash stand) and a wooden Queen Bed with down bedding. This site can only be reached by foot across the river via stumps- a car can be parked near by.. approx. 50ft. I also have a Vintage Camper that can be heated, has a kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. As well as a monastic and very grounding Ensuite Bedroom, or a simple campsite if you want to bring your own camper or tent. All facilities have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house. I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away. *No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches around the house/deck and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

Rio Grande Camp

Enjoy easy access river side camping with amenities. The Hwy can be loud depending on traffic but usually settles down around 6pm. Tent camping on the riverbank is much less Hwy noisy. This is a great swimming and fishing spot with gorgeous views. Catch and release fishing only please. Our local coop market, restaurants, four local wineries a museum and a pizza brewery all within 5 miles of your campsite. 110v and 50amp 240v plugin are available. There is a water spigot as well as a trash receptacle on site. There are no bathroom facilities here. The parking area can accommodate camper vans and small trailers. Large RV’s aren’t able to fit in our small parking area. If you love the river this site’s for you.

Rancho Algo Mas

This land was previously undeveloped when we bought it in 2011, having only been used as horse grazing land and chile production in the 1960s. It is characteristic of inherited irrigated properties in the area and is about 150 ft wide and half a mile long that extends from the traditional irrigation ditch (acequia) at the top of the property to the river drainage. In the 1940s the Chile Line Railroad ran through here on the way to Espanola. Learn more about this land: Nestled in the river valley halfway between Taos and Santa Fe, near the confluence of the Rio Chama and the Rio Grande, this off-grid property is just north of Ohkay Owingeh, where indigenous settlements have existed for many centuries due to rich soil and available ground and surface water. In the 1500s settlers from Mexico came to farm land for New Spain. These historical Spanish and Native influences and identities run deep in this area, as well as the more recent influences of hippie dropout culture in Taos, Ojo Caliente, and Dixon. We have lots of book recommendations if you want to learn more about the complexity of culture and identity in northern New Mexico. Our 5 acres property is a narrow agricultural strip that extends from the irrigation acequia (ditch) at the top of the property down through a dense bosque (forest), ending in a path to the placid river bend of the Rio Grande. The campsites lie midway, among the privacy of the cottonwood bosque and adjacent pond. It is a short walk to a riverside perch with stairs to the shallow water and kayak launch. Other activities on the property include visiting the goats, chickens, and our friendly dogs, playing on the scrap-built playground, swinging on the pond swing, wading in the river, fishing, and doing some beginner kayaking the pond. This property is at its best late Spring through mid Fall when all is green, the pond is full and river is cool. Winter camping is still doable but may include snow, frozen pond, and leafless trees, and sandhill cranes. The site has a nice firepit and we have lots of wood. Summertime means mosquitos so come prepared with some serious sprays or creams- and don't bother with citronella candles, they won't be effective here. You will have a lot of privacy in the bosque, and it is relatively quiet from urban noise. You will be in agricultural and farm country, so you will be amongst the sounds of roosters, sheep, goat, peacocks and horses doing their thing in the farm land all around you. There can be dogs barking so if any of this noise bothers you you will want to bring earplugs.
