We live on ten acres tucked in the pines at the foot of the Sapphire mountains with views west of the broad Bitterroot Valley and the stunning Bitterroot Mountains. Only a mile behind our house is a state wildlife management area and beyond that National Forest and then the Welcome Creek Wilderness. We have a greenhouse and garden on site but our major vegetable growing operation is down in the valley. Lots of wildlife travel through our lot, including a number of owls. In our first five years here we have seen five different owl species, which gives the cabin its name! We have two resident cats and a blue heeler, along with chickens who free roam and you will likely meet.

I had a great time with me and my dog, each day was like living in a fairy tale with critters, hummingbirds, and butterflies living their best life. If Snow White with a gaggle of gnomes walked out of the woods I wouldn’t have been surprised. Perfect place to get away from the chaos of July 4th but most importantly no service (except at the lodge) so I just turned off and watched the wind rustle trees and ran around the woods. 10/10 and will be back to try out all the season.

This is an amazing spot. As a Traveling Chef, I sometimes crave some peace and quiet and cook myself a steak. This was the PERFECT location for that!! Very quiet, and private. Waking up to see the sun peak over the hills, made a very magical morning. It was a very breathtaking way to get introduced to Montana. What can I say but WOW! From the view of the Sula Mountain to a fully stocked tent with a wood stove. This is truly an amazing experience to be had. Lynda was wonderful to speak with and talk about life. My wife and I just spent hours gazing in the evening and night sky before nestling into a king bed with a heated blanket! We kicked off our next morning with cooking breakfast over the wood stove. If you are ever in the area this is a must stay.

Not only is it beautiful on the inside, the bed is INSANELY comfortable (heated blanket was super helpful during a 30 something degree night), and the view in the morning is breathtaking. I loved staying here. About 1.5 hours south of Missoula in the Bitterroot mountains lies this wonderful camp. It is surrounded by trees, trails, and mountains. Finding it was very easy, checking in was simple and communication was awesome. The photos and small touches of hospitality do not do this space justice. Come for relaxation and amenities, watch the stars at night, and stay warm by the fire. I was blown away and cannot wait to return.

We spent 2 incredible nights at Oxen Le Fields. Lynda greeted us upon arriving and her kind and friendly demeanor set a great tone for the trip. We enjoyed driving up to Sula peak and exploring the Bitterroot Valley. The bed was super comfortable and we had a blast being able to camp comfortably on a cool fall weekend. Our last morning we woke up to beautiful snow covered fields and mountains. It was so cozy in the tent, Lynda made sure we had plenty of firewood and the stove and electric blankets kept us very warm. Would highly recommend staying here!

Tent #2 was so spacious and cozy! The wood stove was perfect for a chilly night autumn night, even though the wind and rain crept into the tent slightly. Lynda was a friendly and communicative host. Wish I could’ve stayed longer!
