Narrative about Selby Farm:
Selbys have lived on this farm since 1990. Doug and Brenda are retired from teaching at nearby public schools. Our Farm is now dedicated to boarding retired horses for their owners.
We practice rotational grazing for the health of the horses and the health of our pastures. The horses live in a herd as they would in the wild. Basically, they are hanging out with their friends! They also get regular care and feed and so are VERY happy. You will see and probably interact with the horses if you wish. They are guaranteed to come closer if you have treats like carrots and apples slices.
Our quiet county road used to be the main road along the river. A hundred years ago it was called "Shanty Road". The shacks that were along it housed workers that harvested food from farms in the river bottom. The only evidence of those shacks now is perrenial flowers growing in unusual places. The area is inhabited by professionals working in nearby towns and cities. In fact there are only five homes along our 1.5 mile section of Copps Chapel Road.
The native Americans who used this area did so because of the great diversity of wildlife and availability of water. Also the view is amazing in all directions. Was using this ridge top encampment for security, or just because the view is so satisfying?
The Missouri River is on the far side of the bottoms now, but has been very close historically. There is also a large spring flowing from a cave nearby. These river hills are composed of soils blown in from the end of the last ice age. Being near the river, erosion has cut down the surrounding area making the scenic topography associated with Missouri River valleys and river hills.

Ozark Adventures is a new park in the Lake of the Ozarks area, located on the west side of the lake. Our park is configured around privacy, space and integrating the camping experience with the natural forest setting. Our sites are at least 50 feet apart and provide plenty of trees and shade. Almost all of our sites are pull through, located between two roads coming down a hillside. You pull into your level site from one road and pull out onto another. All the roads are one way traffic so as to not force campers to negotiate steep uphill roads. Located adjacent to a well supplied supermarket for all your camping needs. We have a large community fire pit and games courts for playing lawn games, all lit up at night. In our modern camphouse we have beautiful showers and a brand new laundry facility for your convenience open 7am till 10pm daily. Our regular season is April - October, but in the winter we do offer long term stays with a minimum 28 day stay. Those are at $350 plus electric during the winter . We also have dry tent sites at $25 daily.
For attractions make sure to check out our trademark Patatay mountain bike/ hiking trail with challenging switchbacks, bridges and other attractions being added as you read this.

Narrative about Selby Farm:
Selbys have lived on this farm since 1990. Doug and Brenda are retired from teaching at nearby public schools. Our Farm is now dedicated to boarding retired horses for their owners.
We practice rotational grazing for the health of the horses and the health of our pastures. The horses live in a herd as they would in the wild. Basically, they are hanging out with their friends! They also get regular care and feed and so are VERY happy. You will see and probably interact with the horses if you wish. They are guaranteed to come closer if you have treats like carrots and apples slices.
Our quiet county road used to be the main road along the river. A hundred years ago it was called "Shanty Road". The shacks that were along it housed workers that harvested food from farms in the river bottom. The only evidence of those shacks now is perrenial flowers growing in unusual places. The area is inhabited by professionals working in nearby towns and cities. In fact there are only five homes along our 1.5 mile section of Copps Chapel Road.
The native Americans who used this area did so because of the great diversity of wildlife and availability of water. Also the view is amazing in all directions. Was using this ridge top encampment for security, or just because the view is so satisfying?
The Missouri River is on the far side of the bottoms now, but has been very close historically. There is also a large spring flowing from a cave nearby. These river hills are composed of soils blown in from the end of the last ice age. Being near the river, erosion has cut down the surrounding area making the scenic topography associated with Missouri River valleys and river hills.

Ozark Adventures is a new park in the Lake of the Ozarks area, located on the west side of the lake. Our park is configured around privacy, space and integrating the camping experience with the natural forest setting. Our sites are at least 50 feet apart and provide plenty of trees and shade. Almost all of our sites are pull through, located between two roads coming down a hillside. You pull into your level site from one road and pull out onto another. All the roads are one way traffic so as to not force campers to negotiate steep uphill roads. Located adjacent to a well supplied supermarket for all your camping needs. We have a large community fire pit and games courts for playing lawn games, all lit up at night. In our modern camphouse we have beautiful showers and a brand new laundry facility for your convenience open 7am till 10pm daily. Our regular season is April - October, but in the winter we do offer long term stays with a minimum 28 day stay. Those are at $350 plus electric during the winter . We also have dry tent sites at $25 daily.
For attractions make sure to check out our trademark Patatay mountain bike/ hiking trail with challenging switchbacks, bridges and other attractions being added as you read this.
We also have a private, 3 acre lake on our property open for fishing for our guests. A brand new fishing pier makes it fun to enjoy peaceful fishing and fabulous sunsets on Hawk Lake.

I really enjoyed camping at Water Mountain. Lance was great and really enjoyed talking with him.
I arrived after dark and stopped by the house. Lance gave me some direction and off I went.
They had wood by the fire ring and a jug of water near by when I found my camping spot. It was a great place to star gaze. Just beautiful…
If I’m ever back in the area, I’ll stay here again.

Super quiet area! Booked a tent site and was told I could park in a gravel rv spot as we were just needing a place to park and sleep in our van, super great upgrade! The place was super quiet and pretty views. Shower/bathroom was great. Only issue was the entrance as the bridge was flooded out (no fault of the host) but the other entrance was very steep gravel roads, but it was drivable and the bridge was cleared in a day. The spots were super clean and we were the only people there! River access is super steep but toward the bridge there is a mini beach that is super cute and fun. Overall this was a great spot to get for a couple nights of van-camping.

We loved our stay at Sunrise Shores! The winding road on the way in was fun and scenic, and even though we arrived late it was very easy to navigate and find our spot. Our site was clean and perfectly level, and waking up to the gorgeous view of the Ozark lake in the morning was absolutely stunning. Such a peaceful place — highly recommend and we would definitely stay here again. 🌅

Our first night at the Selby Farm was fantastic! Doug & Brenda stopped by to greet us & provided a long 30 amp extension cord to reach our RV. Looked out our window the next morning & got to see 8 horses in the pasture! Unfortunately on our second night we had severe weather roll into the area with strong winds, heavy rain & the possibility of tornadoes. We opted not to stay due to the severe weather. We would have loved to extend our stay.

I stayed here for one night during a three-day cross-country journey, and it was worth going a bit off the highway to be right on Lake of the Ozarks. Though I arrived late, the host responded immediately with access codes, making check-in seamless.
The attention to detail at this property is impressive. Each site has a brick parking pad and picnic table, plus Adirondack chairs and a fire pit positioned to overlook the water. Even arriving after dark, I took a few moments to sit by the fire pit and enjoy the twinkling lights from the surrounding docks - so peaceful after a long day of driving.
The restroom facilities were exceptionally clean and well-designed. Each one is completely private with its own sink, toilet, and shower, plus a bench and plenty of hooks - much more comfortable than typical campground bathrooms.
The next morning before heading out, I walked around and saw ducks taking flight from the dock area. The property has beautiful amenities including a large shared fire pit, a kitchen/bar pavilion, and a pool. While everything was quiet in the off-season, I could easily imagine how wonderful this place would be during peak summer months.
Highly recommend Paradise Point for a peaceful lakeside stop, whether you’re passing through or planning a longer stay!

Weekend Trip to Retreat to the Country
Loved Bill’s little cabin, the hike and cats most especially. He was so accommodating and flexible when we came in later, he allowed a late check-in. He was responsive when we had questions. The only thing to note is the toilet is in the room and so if you need full privacy, either be comfortable with who you’re with or they’ll have to step out. The compost toilet took some research to understand how to use, and I am still not sure I used it totally correctly. Either way, we plan to go back again someday!
