We are 15 minutes from Smithville lake boat ramp. We are limiting the 40 acres of timber to five groups of campers to provide privacy and seclusion for all. There is a lot of nut trees and chickens! I inherited this land from my uncles who spent their whole life’s purpose to live and maintain the land. It has given me such peace and a great escape that I think everyone deserves to touch a piece of it to help you in your soul searching or unplugging from life to clear your mind to tackle the world! I’ve grown up seeing the land change, watching how nature can change streams and hills and love seeing how years and years of leaving it alone can create such a beautiful canvas all on its own. One of my uncles favorite things to do was to look for arrowheads and if you are familiar with ancient Indian practices, you can find many characteristics in these woods.

American Sportsman Base Camp

5. American Sportsman Base Camp

27mi from Gallatin · 5 sites · Tents, RVs
We’re new to all this, so here’s the scoop. Our campsite sits on one of our family farms at the top of a hill. The closest neighbor is about 3/4 mile away, and the nearest town with a grocery store is roughly 15 miles out. The camper and tent sites are set where the old homestead house once stood. There’s no water or power, but we have one camper set up with a generator available if needed. We provide a water tank, and there’s also an old well if you’d like well water. You’ll be overlooking 500 acres of river bottom land, with a creek running through it where arrowheads have been found, plus river access for fishing or a bit of kayaking. We’ve got a couple of 4-wheelers you can rent to get to the river, or we can take you down ourselves. Kayaks are also available, and we can even take you upriver so you can float the 8 miles back down to our spot.

Escape the crowds and enjoy private camping on our 20-acre farm just minutes from Smithville Lake. With only a few well-spaced sites, you’ll have room to relax, unwind, and experience a quieter kind of stay. We offer two distinct campsite experiences: Sycamore Grove — A shaded, secluded site surrounded by trees, ideal for quiet stays and privacy. Overlook Site — A spacious, open setting perfect for RV campers or those who prefer wide views and flexible space. Spend your day at Smithville Lake, then return to a peaceful campsite where you won’t hear crowded neighbors - just open space and natural surroundings. This is not a traditional campground. Sites are intentionally spaced for privacy and simplicity. The Overlook site is a dry site (no water or sewer), best suited for self-contained setups. With limited sites available, weekends and peak seasons tend to book quickly—reserve early to secure your stay.
