Agate campsite is very generously sized and is all yours. Surrounded by a mix of poplar and birch with a few white pine sprinkled in, the main camp area is set back from the lake atop a 70' bluff with peekaboo views of Lake Superior. A short walk down a private path from your campsite gives you access to a beautiful Lake Superior beach to swim, skip rocks, search for agates, or just enjoy the panoramic views of the lake and the town of Duluth on the opposite shore. Agate campsite previously featured a "look out point" that has been altered by the natural erosion of the red clay banks that comprise much of Lake Superior's south shore. The Hamlet Lake homestead is our 10-acre family home with two unique and private hip-camp sites. The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill. Guests can access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Crosby is a growing tourist town with many new and unique restaurants, outdoor adventures, and shopping opportunities. The paved bike trail begins 3.5 north of us. Milacs lake is 10 miles to the south.

"All are welcome here." We love sharing our beautiful space, and want you to feel safe and secure. Explore woods, trails, meadows. Peaceful, private, close to bike trails, Jay Cooke State Park and Duluth. Both cabins have their own special ambiance. These are comfortable, rustic cabins with NO running water (drinking water supplied). “Not "ADA" *Well-behaved, house-broken, supervised dogs, and older children welcome. *It helps us to know your ETA in advance and to update us so that we can plan our day as well! Once you are in the area, message us a bit before your arrival so we can meet you and set you up properly! If we miss you, follow the arrow on the wheelbarrow down the hill. Park at Dragon Loft at 1st right, and Raven Watch at very end of drive. *We have free range chickens and friendly border collie. Sometimes there's a dog staying at the other cabin. Wildlife is also in the area, so we require that dogs be supervised and leashed, for their safety, and our wild animal neighbors. No dogs may be left unattended in our cabins while you go out! Take your canine pal with you! Quiet hours: dusk to 7am. Also consider your dog's inclination for barking. We keep the peace and quiet of all of our guests in mind. *DRAGON LOFT has one double bed in a loft with steep ladder. Great for two people. Room for dog bed or kennel below the loft. Has a nice reading/coffee room, fridge, oil radiator, hot plate, WiFi, deck with table and chairs, patio with fire ring., grill outside. You have full use of the trails in our woods! *RAVEN WATCH is larger and comfortable for up to four people. Solar power, off grid (no WiFi). Double bed upstairs overlooking the pond, and another downstairs by the cozy wood stove. A cute little kitchen with a nice gas stove and wash area. Fire ring outside. Wood supply. Price based on two adults. Small fee for up to two more people +pets. Next to pond, creek and woods! Private porta-potty, no shower. We raised our children here, and over 45 yrs have planted trees and pollinator acres. We always enjoy meeting other travelers. While living and teaching internationally we looked for adventure, staying in a wide range of hostels in developing countries around the globe. We are now retired but still traveling and exploring off-season.

Weekend Trip to Amnicon Adventures & Retreats

If you are looking for privacy, this site is IT! The campsite is essentially at the very end of one of the many paths on the property. Some parts of the path are harder to navigate if you are using any of the carts provided to haul your gear. There are a few spots with large roots that make it a challenge. However, there’s a stunning overlook shortly before the campsite where we watched the sunset over Lake Superior. The sound of the waves were so peaceful to fall asleep to. It was easily accommodated to our dog as well, he had a great time on his first camping trip! We greatly enjoyed celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary here.

Great open spot for camping. There is bit of a hike down to the beach, and after the rain the red clay was very slick, but still an amazing place. There is a lot of beachfront access and the view is amazing. We spent most of our time at the beach. Dogs couldn’t get enough of it!

Wow, this was my first HipCamp experience and I am pretty sure it has spoiled me for any future stays! The bar has been set pretty high, for sure. There were so many beautiful touches and attention to detail in both a practical and anesthetic sense. I watched turtles swimming in the pond, laughed at a precocious squirrel hurling pine cones at the steel roof of the cabin, and marvelled at a very large heard of deer as I walked the meadow and photographed a gorgeous field of wildflowers. My stay was far too short. I genuinely hope to come here again and spend more time. Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven on earth. 🥰

This was a beautiful campsite with an amazing beach!! Our trip was very rainy and cold, but we were still able to enjoy a campfire and make the trek down to the beach. The portapotty was pristine and the campsite was easy to find, as well as close to amnicon state park and about 1/2 hour to Pattison state park. Site is completely private.

Amazing completely private campsite with stunning private beach! I couldn't recommend it more. The locked gate, private clean outhouse, picnic table, and large firepit were great touches. The only things I would note are that there is no shade at all in the camping area, so maybe bring an easy-up if it's hot. Also the outhouse light is very high and bright, interfering slightly with dark night star gazing and tent sleeping. Would be great if it were lower or had an off option. Overall, one of the very best campsites I have ever visited. Thank you! We will be back.

To quote my son after asking what went well, " literally everything went well "! That's the truth. Beautiful and secluded. The beach was our favorite part. We made many clay projects and forts with driftwood on the beach. The site is also a 5 minute drive to Amnicon State Park where there are many waterfalls and trails to explore.

This was a wonderful private site. The camping area is very well groomed. The Porta potty was spotless. The gate added a nice feeling of security. And nothing can beat the beach. I solo camped with our dog and it was a wonderful experience. Will be back for sure.

Loved the site! Plenty of room for our 2 year old and dog to run around camp and a great shoreline for beachin. Too bad the erosion got the other lookout but its still great to have a cup of coffee and look at the view. Hike down to the water was rewarding for little man -- Matt was very up front that it can get slippery (and it is) so just be aware of that. Site is really private (you may hear other camps next to you but there is no way you'd see them unless at the beach.) Overall, really love the location -- be advised the flies/mosquitoes are out in force this time of year but that is just part of being in nature. Also, highly recommend checking out Amicron Falls State park about 15 mins away (especially if you have kiddos). If you get there early(7-8am -- we got there around 9) you'll have the whole place to yourself.
