This is a rustic campsite without facilities or electricity. This property borders the South Charlotte River. It is in a very private location. You can drive into the camping area. We are located 12 miles south of Sault Ste Marie 1/3 mile west of M-129 on 12 Mile Road. It is a dirt road. The entrance is on the left or south side of the road.
The property is good for either tent camping or a parking place for RVs. There is a new driveway that leads to the camping or parking areas. You can drive on the grass to get to the campsite. The campsite area is 50 yards from the road. You can set up anywhere in the cut grass area. There will be two white chairs and a garbage can. A small camp porta potty is available for your use.

The Norton Nook campsites are perfect for off-grid boondocking or pitching a tent. Small Sprinter-style vans or adventure motorcycles are welcome. We offer two campsites on 100 secluded acres with lots of privacy.
Site 1: The Beaver Dam site is more open with a good breeze and a fantastic view of the active large Beaver Pond. This spot is only accessible with a Subaru, Jeep, Truck, or four-wheel drive Sprinter van.
Site 2: The Woods site is just that, in the woods with lots of Pine and Aspen trees. Accessible with any vehicle.
The property is located right off U-23, 7 Miles from Mackinaw City. Bring your bikes and ride from camp to Mackinaw City (7-8 miles) on the Northeastern Bike Trail. The Barbara Hoffius Nature Preserve is only a half-mile away and has great trails to the beach.
These simple campsites are PACK IN PACK OUT. We don’t have any services. There is the Mackinaw Straits roadside park one mile west which has well water and a public bathroom. Table and chairs and a fire pit are provided. Feel free to scavenge for deadfall firewood. Please don’t cut any trees down for any reason. Also, check with the DNR for fire risk. Do not burn during high risk of fire.
The location can't be beaten, if you want to visit the Mackinaw Area but need space from the crowds. It will not disappoint.

This place was awesome! We were able to park right where we could see the boats coming from the Soo Locks. We hooked up to the electric and filled jugs at the water spicket provided. We did not hook up our water. We only saw one area for water. We definitely enjoyed our stay. The little market down the road wasn’t expensive. We even bought tortillas there!

I really enjoyed staying at Heather's property. The view of the St. Mary's River is amazing and it was fun to watch the freighters go by. It is a very peaceful spot. Heather wasn't there so I didn't have the opportunity to meet her, but she was responsive to my messages. I would definitely recommend this lovely spot and would stay there again.
Note regarding cell service: I have Verizon and my phone connected to a tower in Canada -- when it did occasionally connect. The connection was 3G so it was very poor. Other times, there was no connection at all.

We had a great experience at the pines camp spot. It offered a nice balance of seclusion and proximity to the city. The bike trail access was extremely convenient.
The spot itself was ideal for privacy while also providing ample space for our kids to have some freedom. The star gazing at night was absolutely beautiful. We will definitely return!

What makes this site unforgettable is the private rocky beach just steps away. Mornings bring spectacular sunrises over Lake Huron, nights are filled with the sound of waves rolling in, and the shoreline is covered in rocks of every kind waiting to be explored. The campsite itself was spacious and set up with electric hook-up, a picnic table, a firepit, and firewood provided. Well cared for and in a great location, it’s also an easy jumping-off point for Oqueoc Falls and Rogers City. It's definitely on my "visit again" list!

We love this place. The cabins right on your own little piece of beach is perfect. Our kids love spending a day just throwing rocks into the lake and swimming.
It's close to Mackinaw City and the bridge for a day trip to the UP.

Group trip
Had the best time reconnecting with friends here and plan to come back next summer. The cabins were clean and the grass on the property was luscious and great for pitching our tent. Kind of close to neighbors but still private enough to not bother each other. We liked that it was close enough to a small trading post that had all the supplies and drinks we needed.

My wife and I had an INCREDIBLE time on Chris’s property. Very private, and easy to get to. Within a very doable distance from tons and tons of things to do! Could not recommend this site enough. Chris and his wife stopped by briefly, and gave us some very awesome suggestions for our short time there. Please, if you are looking for a site in this area, don’t skip on the beaver damn site!

Heather has an amazing site, right on the river with a view of passing ships. Heather herself is warm and welcoming, and it almost felt like we were staying at a friend's place. We used the site as a base to explore the Eastern UP, but I can imagine it as a quiet escape too. We were extra lucky to be the only guests the two nights we were there. Heather’s place was a perfect stop off for us and had everything our family needed - hookups, views, fishing and space. It was quiet and we enjoyed chatting about the big boats that come through. Definitely an easy in and out if you’re traveling this way. Even had a place for our garbage which wasn’t much but appreciated nonetheless! Heather is friendly and a great host.
