We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.” In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history. Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work! We have acquire additional adjoining property and run some electricity. We have pieced together 160 contiguous acres over the years, and continue to manage the property as a family gathering location as well as doing some occasional log harvesting. This is the place to get away from it all, but still be in striking distance to several attractions. A full service restaurant in La Branch which is a short 12 minute drive SE, and a local hang out called the Red Arrow which is a 5 minute drive NW. The Cabin sits at the end of a long 1/4 mile driveway in the middle of the 160 acre plot of trees. You need to cross Anderson Creek, and drive past another hunting camp near the front entrance. This front 40 acre camp (Anderson Creek Camp) is another more rustic option then Norm's Log Cabin. The road leading to this driveway off of Highway 69 is near the village of Hardwood. Along Highway 69 is a snowmobile/ORV trail managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and can be easily reached via the gravel road to/from camp. That specific trail is designated as A, and runs the length of Highway 69 and intersects ORV trail AG which would bring you into Escanaba. There is many and frequent ORV activity on this trail, and there are many stopping points for refreshments along the way. Hardwood Impoundment Pond is the closest body of water to Norm's Log Cabin, and can be reached by car or ATV. This impoundment pond is really the back waters of a local dam in the area, and can be fished from the bank or off the bridge that goes across the area. Very easily reachable. Again this is just a place to get away from it all and take in the outdoors. We can supply some ideas of places to visit . . .

Weekend Trip to River View Get Away

Kathy was amazing! We decided to take a chance and tent camp in late October. The site is very peaceful and she built firewood up for our first fire upon arrival. We left many things behind on the days we traveled to fish or hike with no worries. The river and woods are peaceful. Appreciate the water she leaves to clean hands and cookware! RV was clean and very well stocked on the inside. Interior looked brand new, and the campsite overlooked a pretty meadow surrounded by trees. Cute S'Mores bucket inside with everything you'd need. Convenient location, was able to do an evening hike to Mosquito Beach from this location. Why stay in a campground and spend thousands of dollars on your own RV when you can just stay here! Highly recommend Captain Ron's for fresh, hand-processed whitefish. Thanks Danielle!

The view,the sauna,the coziness of the cabin was wonderful! Our dogs truly loved their off leash freedom(we picked up their poo as requested) We kayaked,had a few fires at the firepit. It was rustic but doable and we adapted and loved it!

Pauline's site was beautiful and very peaceful. Pauline contacted me ahead of my stay and informed that she intended to move us to a more secluded site given that she was hosting other campers and that we had dogs. She accommodated for all her campers to ensure everyone had a peaceful and enjoyable experience on her property. Pauline gave numerous recommendations of tings to do while in the area which was super helpful. The river, prairie, fruit trees/bushes, and birds that surrounded us made for a super peaceful and enjoyable stay!

Yvonne’s campsite was wonderful! The bathrooms were clean the spot was spacious with a fire ring and picnic table, as well as the electric ports. We were able to buy plenty of wood for cheap for our campfires. We had a great time. We went fishing in the lake and even though we didn’t catch anything it was still cool even walking in the water and seeing how clear and beautiful it was. A great spot to stargaze at night. The owners were wonderful and seem to be passionate about using their time at Vagabond to give people wonderful memories.

2 nights at Hemlock Ridge Homestead

Absolutely loved staying here! The chalet is nestled among wildflowers and a mossy pine forest—beautiful both inside and out. It's a small space, but incredibly functional and luxurious. The host was fantastic and went out of their way to accommodate my partner and me in every way we needed. It is about an hour from Pictured Rocks, but the drive is scenic and enjoyable. Lots to do nearby as well (hikes, parks, + you should go to Lakenenland Sculpture Park if you like cool art!!). 10/10, I highly recommend staying at the Prairieview Chalet!
