The Martha’s Vineyard Family Campground began as a vacant wooded lot in 1968. The land was purchased by Charles and Jeanne Feeney from a retired doctor living in Vineyard Haven. Charles “Chuck” Feeney was an aerospace engineer at the time and was always taking his kids camping. His dream was to have a place for the family to camp and call their own. So together with his wife and five children he converted a bus into a camper and carved out a site amongst the wild blueberry bushes and scrub oak trees. Our family fell in love with the island. We discovered all the island has to offer and found it irresistible. We were the tourists of yesteryear and what attracted our family back then still exists today: beautiful beaches, fabulous fishing, quaint villages, and amazing sunsets. From the rolling hills of Aquinnah to the dunes of Katama, there is no place on earth like it.

When Chuck found out his job was relocating him to California, he made the bold move to make his family campsite and land available to you. With a lot of hard work and great family pride, the construction of Martha’s Vineyard Family Campground began. During the first few summers of construction, we lived in the converted bus and tents. Slowly the sites and the roads were carved out. Summer vacations meant clearing land and pouring cement. The campground was officially opened in the spring of 1972 and has been a family-run operation ever since. Today the campground is managed by a third generation of The Feeney Family. The goal has always been to provide a quality camping experience for families who wish to visit this wonderful island. Stay includes a rustic cabin in the woods! This camp, called Dream Day on Cape Cod, welcomes families who have a seriously ill child to enjoy respite together during the summer.
Cabins vary slightly, but each includes two double bunk beds (four twin beds total) and one full-size bed, sleeping up to six guests.
Each cabin is equipped with a mini refrigerator, microwave, and a full bathroom. The property also offers access to a wide-open field and a playground. Fire pit use may be requested during your stay (availability depends on fire danger levels).

This was the cutest place ever! Great signage, very well equipped, toilet and shower were very clean. Host seemed very nice- though we didn’t meet, we communicated through you messages. We absolutely loved this place and 11/10 would recommend.

6 nights at The Cape Cod Acre
The cabin is quite cute, and though small, it has a snug feel to it. We had beautiful weather all week which came in clutch as we used the porch as an outdoor kitchen which made the cabin inside feel more spacious. There are some sweet trees before the cabin, perfect for a hammock setup and a clothes line. And the proximity to the beach was ideal for a morning or evening walk or quick bike ride. The outdoor shower is lovely and the outhouse was clean. Though a note about both of these - there are restricted times the shower is accessible and you are expected to bag up your own poop and take it to a trash can when you leave. Both of these expectations were a bit of a surprise to us and would have been helpful knowing beforehand. Overall, I would stay again.

The Honey Shack was great! A perfect mix of rustic, clean, comfy & well appointed. My husband and I had everything we needed and we were super comfortable.
The setting is lovely and private, but also close to Brewster restaurants & stores.
We will be back for sure!

We spent 2 nights here and slept so well! Cabin is neat and filled w extra nice things like board games and even a place to charge our phones. Outdoor shower was LOVELY after a day at the beach. The hosts were so nice and thoughtful. It was such a perk to have a small pump sink for dishes while camping!

Weekend Trip to The Cape Cod Acre
My boyfriend and I spent the weekend at the Honey Shack for a last minute Cape getaway. The Cape is his favorite place, and after this stay I fully understand why.
While we saw very little of them, the hosts were great! As was the dog, Star, whose appearances were always accompanied by a frisbee and a tail wag. Their setup was very well thought-out. Despite being in a great location central to so many things, it was quiet and peaceful. The property was beautiful and we loved waking up to the chorus of songbirds and the sounds of nature. While the cabin is technically off grid, there was a large charging station and quite a few battery operated lights, which was a pleasant surprise. The hosts also include a binder with information on the area, local beaches, and pamphlets with trails as well as things to do.
The outdoor shower was incredible! While there are technically official shower times for the outdoor shower, the hosts were very flexible and accommodating of us showering when we wanted. The hot water coming out at a high water pressure, coupled with the cool cape air, was extremely refreshing and the perfect end to a day along the ocean.
I will note, the fire pit outside is a chimney-style fire pit. Great for sitting around a fire without smoke blowing in your face! But don’t plan on being able to make food or coffee over the fire.
This was our first time using Hipcamp, we didn’t know what to expect. The experience provided at the Honey Shack went above and beyond.
