Our end-of-the road, ridgetop property means privacy. Our isolated campsites are surrounded by woods full of turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Onsite there are wide, easy strolling paths, a growing number of single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest. And if not booked, a historic log home to explore and do some porch sitting. A great place for solo campers, friends, and families, whether newbies or experienced. Drive-in sites make unloading/loading easy peasey. Standard amenities include privacy - we only book two sites at any time, which are far apart from each other and surrounded by woods. Also, an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). And onsite firewood purchased during booking or while onsite. Site 1 - Open Sky accommodates solo or the group, tents to small campers. It comes with extra amenities: hammock, trampoline, (badminton & cornhole by request). It's also closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, outhouse. Site 2 - Gobbler's Knob is a more cozy space - a small rise surrounded by forest. A short walk from the outhouse and firewood shed. It can accommodate pop-ups, small pull-behinds, tents, hammocks. Vehicles can park on site or park at site entrance, just 50'. THE BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season. THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING. Mawhe Acres Camping Retreat has two primitive camp sites just inside the tree line of an open field, each with a 16' x 16' crushed limestone pad for tents. However, for a nominal fee, we can provide a water hose to the campsite. There's easy access with the ability to drive through the field to the campsite or guests can walk in with their gear from driveway. Mawhe Acres - a 25 acre farm, much of which is raw land and woods in their natural state, undeveloped and not farmed for decades - is an official National Wildlife Federation® (NWF) Certified Wildlife Habitat™ site. NWF recognizes our commitment to sustainably providing the essentials of wildlife habitat - natural sources of food, water, cover and places to raise young. The abundant wildlife around includes deer, squirrels, red foxes, turkeys, chipmunks, groundhogs, raccoons, opossums, woodpeckers, owls, and birds of prey (mostly red-tailed hawks and vultures). We have a small lake with good fishing and acres of woods to explore. There are some footpaths for easier walking. We have recently acquired a collection of log cabins for a true to life, historic reenactment staycation. We are fortunate that one of the cabins was the frontier church known as "Shilo Baptist Church" from 1830-1840. The pastor of this church baptized Abraham Lincoln's father and is credited with having changed his attitudes toward ending slavery. Our hiking trails and nature trails bring you lots of knowledge, peace, shade, cool breezes and you can bring your horse (no motorized recreational vehicles) oh and lots of wildlife viewing. Here are a few of our featured campsites: REDBUD MEADOW: Our first campsite used by hundreds of people over the years. A secluded lawn in the midst of redbud trees, easy to drive to and from with a pile of firewood and a metal fire ring. The premier site on our property. THE BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season. THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING. Mawhe Acres Camping Retreat has two primitive camp sites just inside the tree line of an open field, each with a 16' x 16' crushed limestone pad for tents. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring and access to a compost toilet (in outhouse). There is no potable water or electric. However, for a nominal fee, we can provide a water hose to the campsite. There's easy access with the ability to drive through the field to the campsite or guests can walk in with their gear from driveway. We're fine with car camping too - we just want to keep things as natural as possible. Mawhe Acres - a 25 acre farm, much of which is raw land and woods in their natural state, undeveloped and not farmed for decades - is an official National Wildlife Federation® (NWF) Certified Wildlife Habitat™ site. NWF recognizes our commitment to sustainably providing the essentials of wildlife habitat - natural sources of food, water, cover and places to raise young. The abundant wildlife around includes deer, squirrels, red foxes, turkeys, chipmunks, groundhogs, raccoons, opossums, woodpeckers, owls, and birds of prey (mostly red-tailed hawks and vultures). We have a small lake with good fishing and acres of woods to explore. There are some footpaths for easier walking. We want to share our beautiful land for our guests to enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of the forest which can help you relax. The location is easy to find and the gravel parking area is just off the road. There is a 3 minute walk to the campsite down a pretty steep hill on a well maintained path. The campsite is isolated and you mostly just hear nature sounds. I did not use the fire pit or picnic table, I was just out there to sleep after work, but they're new and there is firewood next to the fire pit. I camped in a hammock, but the area to put up a tent is flat but on slight slope. It's nice. I was there for multiple nights and no one disturbed my campsite. This is a simple, remote campsite that is appropriately priced.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Clean, Cozy, and So Much Fun! This campsite exceeded all our expectations! The first thing we noticed was how clean and well-maintained everything was—especially the toilet, which was surprisingly neat for a campground. It made the whole stay so much more comfortable. The hammock setup under the trees was the perfect touch—we spent hours just relaxing, reading, and soaking in the peaceful vibes. And the trampoline? Total win! The kids (and even some of us adults 😄) had an absolute blast bouncing around. It added such a fun, unexpected element to our trip. Between the quiet surroundings, the thoughtful amenities, and that dreamy hammock nap, this place really felt like a hidden gem. Definitely coming back!

Our host, Josh Handy, was terrific. The location is a renovated pop up camper which he fashioned with wood from his grandfather’s 200 year old barn when it was torn down. It has an open barn about 30 yards away with very nice restroom facilities, H/C shower and an outdoor kitchen. The land itself comprises part of a farm with both open meadow and wooded trails. Perfect for travelers and dogs. Highly recommended!

We arrived late which was a bummer because Josh has an amazing setup! He had a place for us to sit and eat along with grill. He had a fire pit with a bench. It was the perfect setup! The bathroom and shower were super clean! After we arrived we got setup with our tent and we just stared out the ceiling because the stars were breathtaking. Did I mention my dog loved it there too? Because he did! I walked him in the morning and he loved every bit of it. 10/10 highly recommend!

It was so easy to stay here! We camp in our pop-up camper with three kids. It was lovely to sit down at the distillery, play games, listen to music, and have drinks and a bite to eat. The campsite was simple (as described) and had a nice view. In the daytime we went into Cinci (the zoo, Washington Park) an easy half hour away.

We were a bit hesitant as we had a 38ft motorhome with 3 slides towing a jeep. Jared was very upfront with the tightness of of the driveway. We decided to give it a go and all went very well. We did drive very slow an watched my satillite dish on top and didn't had any issues except for some smaller limbs. It was tight coming and going, but made it without any jogging back back and forth. Our MH is 12ft 6in tall. Like I said, slow and wide turns and it was fine. My Wife I loved the parking spot,,, Fire flies/lightening bugs and Banjo Frogs crocking through the night, Very cozy and private, host were very accomadating

We needed a place to stay last minute while attending a music festival in Lexington, but with no hotels available, we decided to camp instead. Stumbling upon Three Springs Campground in Sadieville (which happens to be my daughter's name-it was fate, we had to stay!) It turned out to be an unexpected highlight of our trip. The campground offers primitive tent camping for $50 a night, but for just $10 more, they have rustic cabins that were the perfect blend of comfort and simplicity. The cabin had heat, air conditioning, electricity, a microwave, a Keurig coffee maker, and plates, making it incredibly convenient. There was outside seating and a fire pit. While there was no bathroom inside the cabin, the bathhouse was just 75-100 feet away, and there was Wi-Fi and no TV. After the festival, we built a fire and spent most of the night simply enjoying each other’s company—me, my husband, and our daughter, Sadie. It was the perfect way to wind down, surrounded by nature and the peaceful atmosphere of the campground. Whether you’re looking for secluded, rustic tent camping or a budget-friendly cabin stay, Three Springs Campground is a great option near Lexington. Highly recommend for anyone attending an event nearby or just wanting a tranquil getaway!

A cute, super clean campground. And we loved the shower heads!! Every corner of the cabin, bathrooms and showers were clean of cobwebs! I am glad to see they are investing in fixing some of the campsites. It was very easy to find, just off the highway but far enough back to be super quiet. We will stop again when visiting family in Lexington.

Liz’s cabin is charming and cozy. The property is beautiful and Liz was kind and responsive. We took our kids to creek stomp and swim at Muscatatuck county park about 30 minutes away and it was perfect, just what we were looking for! I would definitely recommend a stay at nightfall farm. *there is a barn cat that comes and hangs out at the cabin (outstayed his welcome as he stole some of our food and tried to bite me). Just beware if you are not cat people. Liz kindly put him away after we asked her.
