We can be found on HIPCAMP listed under OLD RUGGED BARN. We are in central IL near Historic Rt 66, minutes north of Bloomington-Normal with easy access from I-55. The property is a small 3.5 Acre farmstead that includes our event venue, space that can used for campers, and my home. We offer space for Campers through Hipcamp. We are NOT a campground per se. Our Amish farm is nestled in the heart of Amish Country, Douglas County Illinois. We're located just 45 min. from Champaign & Decatur, 5 minutes from the Aikman Wildlife Adventure & 35 min. from the fishing spots & walking trails at Walnut Point State Park. Relax in our quiet lodging right here on the farm where you'll see horses, goats & chickens. For an additional fee, we're happy to offer Amish buggy rides & wagon rides for our guests. The camper is 28 feet with a 12 foot tip-out. It has one bedroom with a king size bed, and another with a double bed. In the common area there's a sleeper sofa. There's a bathroom with shower in the camper and another bathroom with shower about a 1 min. walk in a separate building. Our farm is just a 5 min. drive from the Great Pumpkin Patch, Yoder's Country Kitchen and various Amish owned shops. Beautiful Lake Shelbyville is a 35 minute drive. We are about a 45 min. drive from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and 35 min. from Eastern Illinois University. This Amish owned camper doesn't have Wifi (TV only plays DVD's). Depending on your phone carrier & plan, you shouldn't have any problem getting cell phone service & internet on your phone. It may be possible to funnel the internet from your phone to your phone to your laptop using a "personal hotspot".

1,687-acre Moraine View State Recreation Area is a scenic spot for both relaxation and recreation. It features a 158-acre lake and irregular crests formed by glaciers 15,000 years ago called moraines. Scattered groves of white oak, red oak, black walnut, maple, hickory, ash and elm dot the valleys.Anglers may be interested in competing in the fishing tournaments held at the lake, offering opportunities to catch largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, bullhead, crappie, channel catfish, walleye, yellow perch and northern pike. There are also a number of shorter trails (less than 2 miles) to explore, including The Timber Point Handicapped Trail, which gives disabled visitors an opportunity for some quality time in the woods. An additional seven miles of trails is available for cross-country skiing and snowmobiles once there’s sufficient snowfall.

Weekend Trip to Green Meadow Amish Farm

We had a great time camping at Green Meadow Farm with our two dogs. Merle was communicative and very accommodating. The farm was easy to find just outside of town and a beautiful spot, with horses, cats, and sheep around. It was peaceful and lovely to wake up to the sunrise across the fields. Very nice bathroom and shower facilities available. Anytime we return to the Arthur area we will definitely be giving Merle a call. We really enjoyed our stay!

Weekend Trip to CSC Permaculture Project

This was my favorite camping experience yet. The host was very helpful and hands on. The set up was perfect for sunny and rainy days. It was sooo cozy and had a private feel to it. The stars were sooo bright and clear. I enjoyed walking around the sight. I had everything I needed. I will come back to this site again!

Greg here is just stopping through for one night on his trip around the country. Was on his bucket list and he's doing it! Cabin is often open on weeknights.

Weekend Trip to CSC Permaculture Project

Wonderful, peaceful stay at CSC. First time in the earth shelter site, which made this such a comfortable sleep. Lots of space for tents too. We fished, biked, had dinner and games at the campfire, and overall had a wonderful relaxing visit. Bill helped us out with many small things that really made the visit extra special, like loaning us bug spray, getting my kids new fishing gear sorted and helping fix an issue with my car. Can't wait to go back!

It was easy getting to this hip camp from the interstate and very comfortable sleeping weather! There was a wedding in progress but there was very little noise as I was on the other side of a barn from the crowd! I enjoyed running my dog around the property chasing her ball.

I originally booked this property simply as a place to film, expecting just a small house and some land to move around on. I learned about permaculture, about the unique history of the community, and left with new friends and a new perspective on what sustainable living can look like. My hosts were wonderful. They made me feel welcome, answered every question, and even took the time to give me a tour that changed the way I look at both farming and community. Their generosity and openness made this more than a stay—it was a life experience. If you’re looking for a getaway where the land feels alive, where every corner holds a story, and where you can breathe in something truly unique, this is it. I came here thinking I’d just make a film. I left with inspiration, gratitude, and a genuine connection to a place I’ll never forget.

Weekend Trip to CSC Permaculture Project

What a great trip! Loved the beautiful cabin with tons of ambience. Lots of firewood available. Site has good privacy, although I highly recommend chatting with the friendly hosts and learning more about the permaculture. They've done really beautiful work creating a meaningful and abundant space. Cheers!

Weekend Trip to The Old Rugged Barn

We got here after 10pm which normally would have been awful to set up the tents in the dark. However, there were spotlights that made it perfect for seeing in the dark. With that said, there were plenty of dark spaces so the light wasn't an issue. Slept great; nice and quiet..When we woke in the morning, we were pleasantly surprised with the beauty of the property. There were also plenty of fun spaces to take pics. I would definitely recommend and would love to stay again!

Jo’s land was so beautiful and taken care of, and so quiet and peaceful. Jo welcomed us when we arrived and showed us where firewood was and our options to camp, and was so friendly. We set up camp, caught some fireflies, and fell asleep to our crackling fire. Everything went very well, definitely will be back!

2 nights at CSC Permaculture Project

My husband and I loved staying at the CSC's Earth Shelter. It was a beautiful site with lots of signs of thoughtful preparation by our hosts! There were benches around the firepit and on the porch, extra chairs to move around, a picnic table, plenty of firewood and dry kindling, and even a chiminea for a cozy porch fire in case the weather wasn't right for the firepit. The Earth Shelter was inspiring! We loved seeing it in person to appreciate all the care and expertise that went into building it. Very comfortable and well-maintained. We highly recommend it! Our hosts were wonderful as well- we had our choice of fresh-grown produce from their garden and a lovely tour of the land and area.
