Ranch lands of a prior Horse Ranch at the edge of town is conveniently located. Most of the property is pasture area but plenty of yard for tent camping and LOTS of space for those who want to pitch a tent in the pastures. We have small goats, chickens, and turkeys on-site (please do not enter barn or animal pens). There are no hookups for water or power, but we can accommodate some use of water from our spigots. We live about 2 miles from our local lake, which has boat access and paddling access. The beautiful view of sunsets and sunrises are spectacular more times than not. We host large herd of deer traveling and sometimes bedding down in our pastures, so be sure to watch early mornings for them to be on the move. Primitive camping at its best. Park and camp in lush forest. It's Bigfoot land! Luckily it's minutes to all the city amenities. Close to cinema, coffee shops, art museum, water park, little league tournaments, restaurants, airport and interstate highway. Yet so secluded that you can get away and leave civilization behind. La Forêt has six acres of land with deer, rabbit, turtles, beavers, and so many birds. You can adventure into the six acres of thick forest at your own risk. Bring your insect spray. Thick forest can get you lost, so take precautions if you dare to venture. Parking is best for 30' and under vehicles. There is a table, two chairs and a canopy for your pleasure. Please do not move the table. The security is good as the storage facility nearby has surveillance cameras and 24 hour lights. Camp where you feel comfortable. Public toilets can be found in any direction. Lots of gas stations and one even has showers for $12. They provide towel, wash cloths and soap. There are electrical outlets in public park pavilions to charge up power banks. Grills are allowed but please stay on gravel driveway. Enjoy the peacefulness of the forest. Trees emit volatile organic compounds known as "phytoncides". Inhaling these airborne compounds lowers stress hormones (like cortisol) and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system.

We are located about a half mile off the main highway right out side of town. Back in our second driveway and enjoy our little bit of paradise. Hang out at the tiki bar and grill some burgers or sit on the beach and enjoy the sunshine. You can also sit by the goldfish pond and listen to the water run down the stream. You can end the night with a nice fire in the fire pit.. this site offers a little bit of everything, no need to go anywhere else you can have a nice getaway at the 107. Excellent host! Rough neighborhood, but Jeff has plenty of security measures in place to alleviate our worries. The garden is a very nice touch too, a pleasant oasis retreat from the surrounding area. Location was central to everything my family wanted to visit and easy access to the highway. Would definitely inquire about staying again if we return to the St Louis area.

Hosts were very communicative and gracious. I appreciated the security measures they had in place (motion sensitive lighting, locked gate, looked like they had security cameras, etc). Standard city noises, nothing that prevented me from resting. Neighborhood is a bit older and worn down, but the property has great access to the highway and other parts of St Louis. Nearby gas stations are within walking distance for any immediate needs. Would stay here again!

Convenient (easy on/off the highway), safe (fenced, gate with lock, and I believe security cameras), level site with full-hook-up off alley and tucked behind residence in a block of downtown St. Louis with other buildings in the area undergoing renovations. Solo, full-time, female traveler and NEVER felt unsafe. Less than 5 miles to Gateway Arch National Park and other major attractions in St. Louis. I had an opportunity to meet Jeff when he stopped by to water the garden. I mentioned that I had driven through several construction zones and my LTV was very dirty. He graciously offered the use the water to spray off my van! He and his wife, Kim are not only extremely knowledgable about St. Louis, but were incredibly generous with their time, messaging me their favorite places to visit, transportation options, and vegan restaurants! Would definitely stay at Urban Surprise anytime I visit St. Louis! Like others have reported the alley is NOT level, so slow speed and GOAL (get out and look) are both important, when backing in or out of the site.

We had a lovely 3 night stay on Ryan and Tanya’s beautiful property. The site was large, level and easy to maneuver around with a west facing view. Every sunset was stunning. It was very private with 30amp and sewer. We filled our fresh water tank when we arrived. There are hoses long enough to reach the site if you need to refill. The hosts were easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any questions. St Louis is an easy 30 minute drive if you want to explore. There are also a couple small towns that are closer with provisions, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Ryan and Tanya were wonderful, kind hosts. We will definitely stay again next time we’re in the area.

Weekend Trip to Crystal’s Campground

It was a safe place to stay, and the bathrooms had a heater in them which was nice given how cold it was. There was no hand soap or toilet paper, so prepare accordingly. The website and listing doesn’t make it exactly clear but this is largely an open concept RV park, limited wildlife, with several long term residents. It is right next door to a pipeline plant that has very bright lights on all night long. It isn’t the most peaceful location because of that, and isn’t where I’d recommend going to for a getaway retreat. But it is safe and has some nice amenities. Worked out good for a place to sleep on a long roadtrip. Also just as an fyi for the potable water, there is a hookup setup for water if you have an RV. If you do not have an RV though, you will need to use the bathroom sink. We boiled it and it was fine.

Very pleasant stay, water and power hookup’s worked perfectly for our 2 night stay. About 20 minutes to the St. Louis arch and downtown museums. Meghan does mention a steep incline down the driveway does get a little gnarly, especially with all the big trees to maneuver around, stay on your right side of the road when it splits avoid hitting the big tree when starting to turn left down a sharp curve.

The site is pretty much what we expected as based on images from the website, but it was also much more. We had an unfortunate event or three prior to arriving, let the host know our pop up was not working properly but we had a tent. She was welcoming and friendly. it is difficult to put into words the calm I felt sitting on the patio feeling the cool breeze off the pond and listening to the music of splashing water. Another "wow" moment was the fact that the host had a family party on the private area across the pond and we really didn't hear much at all. The bathroom/shower was clean and the water was hot. the sites are new gravel, so keep toes and soles in mind. the play area and firepit seemed inviting. This place is highly recommended.
