Here’s your permission slip to disappear for a bit. This is 14 acres of private, undeveloped forest land at the base of Bald Mountain in northeastern Washington. No water, no toilet, no electricity—just trees, creeks, and whatever the heck you need to work out with nature. There are no designated campsites. You’ll choose your own spot—flat, forested, tucked-away, or by the seasonal creek. Some areas are cut away just enough to help keep the ticks out of your underwear (you’re welcome), but this is still very much wild land. You’ll find: • Towering evergreens • Snowberries, serviceberries, and wild grasses. Moss covered rocks and perhaps a spot we have yet to discover. • Mosquitoes (don’t say we didn’t warn you) • A whole lot of space to wander, both literally and figuratively This site is best suited for tent campers, car campers, backpackers, and solitude seekers. Artists, writers, and wandering weirdos are especially welcome. Trailers UNDER 22 feet only. Because of the primitive terrain we are not set up for anything over 22 feet. Please do NOT BRING anything larger. We truly appreciate it. Camper vans would do well at Primitive Acres. We enjoyed our 4 night stay here in September. Lots of level parking available. Had the place to ourselves for 2 nights, then one night a van, another night some tent campers. All were very quiet. We loved how close to town we were, but it was so nice and quiet out here. Beautiful stars at night! Only downside was the bathhouse was occupied by some creepy crawlies that we didn’t want to share with, so we did our own sponge baths behind the trailer instead. All in all, very quiet, safe and pretty place to hang out in Wallace.

I lived in rural Idaho for 15 years and this is Idaho meets old school Jackson, Wyoming vibes. The fire pit is covered, huge, and amazing! Bring your own wood! Louis was great with his instructions and we were able to easily access, very clean, restrooms, shower, and bathtub even! Very good hot water, great place to pull up our camper van and spend a wonderful evening and morning! We woke up to a male elk courting, we heard the call and also heard the female elk reply, amazing vibe! No light pollution, the stars were amazing, perfectly quiet, great night sleep, would stay again!

This spot was awesome! We loved it. Definitely quiet and clean. The water bucket and fire starters were a nice added bonus. There’s running water available to use just a few steps away and a very clean portable toilet. Randall came to check on us and to introduce himself the second day and tell us a little more about the property. We went walking on the trails and later drove the 12 minutes to the lake to go swimming. You could hear the train in the distance at night but that didn’t stop us from enjoying our time there. Would definitely go back!

This a charming site to camp. It's just a couple minutes to the town of Wallace & near several trails. The site itself is clean & cozy, the bathrooms are well stocked & have both a shower & a tub. There is also a large gathering area with a nice sized fire pit & lots of wood. The site is rigged with small lights all around the public areas to make it easy to see where you're walking at night. The fenced in space is ideal for dogs or kids. Overall a lovely space.

Carol and Randall have created a really lovely space in the back of their property. You’re perched up in the trees with lots of wildlife, and I enjoyed listening to the owl hoot. They were flexible and kind and helped accommodate me when I had a change of plans. I would recommend this spot easily!

Our property is located on 7 forested acres a few miles from Sandpoint. We have a few different houses on the property where parts of my family live. There are 3 rental spots that are all creek side and next to each other. You can wade in the shallow creek, swim in the pond, enjoy a walk up the road or camp area and just enjoy your camp spot surrounded by the forest and creek. There are also many trails and adventures within a 15 min drive of the property. We have a few dogs that live on property and like to come say hi to the campers and play fetch. The dogs are all friendly, but we ask that any guests bringing their own dogs please keep them on a leash as we do not know how they would all interact each other or local wildlife.

The Hidden Frog On Kelso Lake

Tucked away in the mossy rocks, The Hidden Frog offers a half acre of private, forested camping on the banks of Kelso Lake. The 60 acre lake allows non-motorized watercraft only, which makes for a peaceful, relaxing stay. The parking area has room for a vehicle and trailer up to 60ft long combined, plus another area for a single vehicle. It is adjacent to a shared driveway, so you must leave room for vehicles to get around you. You can choose to set up camp there, or down a short path to the lake where there is ample flat ground for multiple tents. The path is cleared but rocky, so always make sure to watch your step! A fire ring, shovel, bucket of water, emergency fire extinguisher, 2 chairs and one 13gal garbage bag are provided for your use. I live next door, so I'm around if there is anything you need (don't be afraid to ask!) There are no other amenities right now, but we plan on adding some as we start to make some money (i.e. an outhouse, electrical.) The shoreline is very bushy and rocky- not ideal for fishing, boating or swimming, but there is a free public boat launch site .4mi down the road, plus another at Granite lake .7mi away. Also, do not disturb the mosses growing on the rocks (it is a fragile ecosystem!) and respect the wildlife that make the space their home. SPRING/SUMMER/FALL: Spend the afternoon at the Trestle Creek on the eastern shore of Lake Pend Oreille, only two miles down the road (just off Highway 200), where you can launch your boat, swim at the beach, or paddle along the shore in your kayak or SUP. Or, take an adventurous backcountry drive up Trestle Creek Road into the mountains of the Kaniksu National Forest where you can check out Lunch Peak Lookout, hike miles of pristine trails to one of the three nearby mountain lakes, explore several waterfalls, or drive the entire 35 mile backcountry loop down to the town of Clark Fork. Don't tell anyone, but Schweitzer Mountain is an absolute gem of a ski resort with 2,900 acres of gorgeous skiing terrain (and epic views) for all ages and skill levels. Our family spends a good bit of time skiing here. Winter Driveway Access: a 4-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicle is required to climb our driveway during winter conditions. OUR STORY: We (Tim and Molly) spent 14 years raising our young family in the desert heat of north Phoenix. Every summer we went dispersed camping as many weekends as possible with our four (now five) children in the backcountry mountain ranges of northern Arizona. We watched our family grow stronger together and sibling relationships flourish as the mental and emotional grime of the city grind was slowly washed from our souls during idle morning hangouts, afternoon hiking adventures and evening stories and laughs around the campfire. We had a particularly amazing mountaintop experience in 2014 backcountry camping over Labor Day Weekend where we felt a strong calling to share with others the blessings we were experiencing. Our hearts were impressed with a desire to host a place in the "wilderness" where people and families could escape and unwind from the noise and pace of city life for a few days and maybe even have a mountaintop experience of their own. After several years of waiting for the right timing, we started exploring and found this place in January 2019. By April we had sold our home in Phoenix and moved our family 2,000 miles north to this 27 acre property on a mountain of Hope. We named it Maverick Mountain Home, which captures our love of the wilderness, our mission to care for the lost, and our desire to be unbranded by the world. Upon landing here we immediately got to work preparing. We've spent the last five years working on hundreds of different projects, including: rehabilitating our driveway, beginning a long-term whole-house remodel, building a chicken coop, maintaining our driveway, fencing in a new orchard, chicken yard, and pig yard, planting trees, replacing a spring house, maintaining our driveway, installing underground infrastructure for future guest facilities, clearing trails, milling lumber, and maintaining our driveway. In 2024 we dedicated a good portion of April and May to preparing our first HipCamp site, Living Water, which went live on our wedding anniversary at the end of May. This is a very private and quiet place, more of a sanctuary and not a party place. The only thing you hear is nature, a breeze through the pine trees, the birds, and the creek. The La Luna cabin is no longer off grid, but if the power does go out, it's a great place to be.. Hot Showers at my cabins are private and outdoors. Two of the cabins were built from the trees on the property by the first family that lived here in the earlier 1900s. There is the option to take an acrylic painting class, banjo, guitar or fiddle lessons, paddleboard lessons, and have a real old-timey campfire with a glass of wine or two with live music performed by our famous Fiddlin Red on the fiddle, banjo, and guitar. Every year we make it more and more magical and interesting. It's four miles up a county-maintained dirt road and one mile to a non-motorized lake. Here’s your permission slip to disappear for a bit. This is 14 acres of private, undeveloped forest land at the base of Bald Mountain in northeastern Washington. No water, no toilet, no electricity—just trees, creeks, and whatever the heck you need to work out with nature. There are no designated campsites. You’ll choose your own spot—flat, forested, tucked-away, or by the seasonal creek. Some areas are cut away just enough to help keep the ticks out of your underwear (you’re welcome), but this is still very much wild land. You’ll find: • Towering evergreens • Snowberries, serviceberries, and wild grasses. Moss covered rocks and perhaps a spot we have yet to discover. • Mosquitoes (don’t say we didn’t warn you) • A whole lot of space to wander, both literally and figuratively This site is best suited for tent campers, car campers, backpackers, and solitude seekers. Artists, writers, and wandering weirdos are especially welcome. Trailers UNDER 22 feet only. Because of the primitive terrain we are not set up for anything over 22 feet. Please do NOT BRING anything larger. We truly appreciate it. Camper vans would do well at Primitive Acres. The land is remote, about 30 minutes from Spokane and 10 minutes from Loon Lake, and you likely won’t see another soul—but there are neighboring parcels nearby, each about 20 acres in size. You’ll feel alone, but not abandoned. No generators, no parties, no pets off leash. Pack it in, pack it out. No fires unless permitted. This isn’t a resort, but it’s definitely a reset. Come prepared. Come curious. Come undone, if you need to. WARNING: wild animals do roam through here. We ask that you watch your pets and keep them on leash for their safety. The neighbors also have a friendly old dog who likes to wander.

There is a porta-potty very close with a sink water disposal and garbage can. Please note there is potable water in the property but not at the sites. These are dry sites without potable water, electricity, sewer hookups or dump. Firewood is available at an additional low cost. ** We Can accommodate a 21' trailer max ** There are other traditional vacation rentals on the property including your hosts home. We are surrounded by tall trees where it is very quiet with the exception of many bird, the distant call of the trains as well as our resident owls. You will find a Lake Pend Oreille is 15 minutes away, Sandpoint is about 10 minutes away with a wonderful swimming beach and Silverwood Theme Park is about 20 minutes. There is lots to do here from fishing and hunting to boating and skiing. Come visit soon!
