Ocean View is often referred to as the goldilocks of Hawaii. Our climate is quite lovely with temperatures ranging from 70's in winter to low 80's in the summer. At night it cools off some for a great resting temperature. We usually have nice tradewinds blowing through. Ocean View lives up to its name with Ocean Views from most places. The town itself features friendly folks and a variety of establishments including a pizzaria, grill, grocery stores, farmers markets, gas station, post office, and gift shop. The grill features a weekly paint night and Karaoke night. Ocean View is special place with a small town Hawaii feel. A 5 minute drive takes you into town where you can find pizzaria, grill, grocery stores, farmers markets, gas station, post office, and gift shop. Ocean View is located just 30 minutes from Punaluu black sand beach, Punaluu Bakery, 35 minutes from Hookena Beach and South Point-with access to Green Sands Beach, just 5 minutes from Kula Kai Caverns, one of the largest lava tube systems, 1 hour from Volcano National Park, 15 minutes from great hiking and beauty at Kahuku Volcano Park Unit, 10 minutes from Manuka Wayside Park and hiking, and 5 minutes from Road to the Sea 4WD road.

We camped in our campervan and it was easy parking, quiet and level. Make sure you communicate with the camp before getting there as we didn’t have cell service once there and the starlink did not show up on our phones. Also make sure you screen shot the route or download your map app.

Lovely and peaceful spot! Unfortunately we couldn’t make it before dark so had a hard time navigating to the place and within the grounds. But once we got settled we were amazed by the Milky Way view - best stars I’ve seen in a long time! The sheep gave us a very friendly greeting & we thoroughly enjoyed the fruit stand offerings. Def recommend it for a basic and peaceful camping experience!

We loved this location. So close to lots of the activities we had planned around Kona. Also not far from restaurants and a laundromat. The room was close to the parking area. We had a little decking where we could dry our swimwear. The room was nice and spacious so we could spread out our suitcases. Didn’t explore the farm much because it was raining but loved patting the cat that liked to sleep on the decking. The room also felt very private and the farm is behind a locked gate. Definitely recommend

I loved the camping site, super clean bathroom, spacious shower, paper toilet so soft, dogs are very cute, convenient electrical power charge, drinkable water accessible for free, a cozy place to cook our meals after sunset. Macadamias and mango from trees were delicious! Our host was welcoming and well prepared for our stay.

Rose and Family were very nice and accommodating, making it very easy to find. It felt very safe and secure there. Her beautiful land and Fruit Stand were the real stars of the show!!! We woke to a deeply beautiful landscape with sheep roaming close by, who grazed pleasantly close to us during our breakfast; and afterwards we partook of her very tasty Fruit Stand!!! Definitely recommend both the chilled coconut and the fresh squeezed sugar-came and ginger juice!!!

Ginger Farms was a nice place to stay and very different than the other resort style experiences offered on Hawaii. I really enjoyed making coffee every morning in the outdoor kitchen. A few things I would have liked to know before staying, the outdoor shower is cold water only. I feel like I should have figured that out for myself but it didn't occur to me until I was there. Also, for those not as familiar with the weather or foliage, it will definitely be damp....just a part of the experience and nothing to do with the stay itself. The hosts were very responsive and helpful. The camp site was stocked with everything I needed. The outdoor shower was cute and having a toilet in the tent was perfect for me. A very comfortable experience.

Weekend Trip to Gingerhill Farm Retreat

A hidden gem! We were in need of a much needed staycation since we live in Hawaii. The grounds are beautiful and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Every morning during our stay, the owner walked the grounds performing an oli’ (hawaiian chant). The bed was comfortable. If you’re a visitor and want a different experience or just get away from tourist areas, this is a great option. BEWARE though that the Big Island has a “coqui” problem which are invasive frogs that loudly chirp throughout the night so BRING EAR PLUGS! (A suggestion to Iris & Zach is to provide ear plugs for guests).

Weekend Trip to Waipi'o Lodge

What a beautiful place to start our trip!!! We stayed here as our first night on Hawaii Island before heading down into Waipio valley for another hip camp stay and some backpacking and it was a fantastic way to start our trip!!! The tent we stayed in was luxury at it's finest with a super comfortable bed, spectacular views and all the amenities that you could ask for!! It felt more like luxury than camping and we absolutely loved it!! Greg and his family were very friendly, kind and helpful and we are so grateful for them sharing their home with us!! Thank you again for a wonderful trip to a wonderful place!! Mahalo!!
