We are located within a 20-25 minute drive from Volcanoes National Park. Two of the best restaurants on the island (Wyatt's Place and Da Beans Greens Cafe) are located within a 12 minute drive, and the Mountain View post office and water spigots are located within a 8 minute drive.
This is an ideal site for car campers and vanlifers. You are welcome to bring your own tent and pitch it anywhere on the open grass area as well.
We have an outdoor kitchen with a 2 burner stove, fridge, copper drinking water container, and a 250 gallon water tank for washing dishes. We have a professionally built outhouse style Humanure Composting toilet.
We are less than 200 feet from the paved road so any vehicle will be able to drive straight onto the land. The land is located in a very safe part of the neighborhood with great neighbors closeby (but not too close)!

Yes we are a family friendly nudist venue. What does this mean? Simply put, we are just like other camping venues, except you can leave your clothing behind. Never tried it before? We welcome "every body" and are a wholesome non-sexual venue accredited with the American Association for Nude Recreation.
Note. If you are considering a month long stay or more, you must meet the following requirements before we will approve you:
1. Couples of 2 or families of 3 only. The loft is small and best suited for a child who can navigate comfortably up and down a loft ladder.

You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night.
We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice.

Lava covered the site on 5 September 1990, after more than a thousand years of peaceful fertility. The flow met the Hakuma horst and was diverted north, filling the village of Kalapana and the beautiful Kaimu Bay. Lava continued to flow in the area for another 20 years, until 2011. We are restoring the fertility by bringing in mulch and soil and planting coconuts, mango trees, moringa, plumeria, figs, dragonfruits, and more.
Near the camp sites we've recently constructed a house out of local wood; it provides some shelter from the nearly constant trade winds. Premium strawberry guava BBQ firewood can be purchased by prior arrangement. There's a shower with cold water; it doesn't get very cold!

Come enjoy the magic of your own private waterfall while camping under the stars at Hakalau Springs Campground. Hakalau is located on the North-East side of the Big Island along the breathtaking Hamakua Coast. Surrounded by waterfalls and lush, green tropical flora, Hakalau is a hidden gem. It’s the perfect jumping off point for all things east side. Hilo town is 30 minutes south and Waipio Valley Lookout is 45 minutes North. The world-famous Akaka Falls is one neighborhood over in the quaint town of Honomu which hosts some wonderful gift shops, 2 restaurants, and a coffee house. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a little over an hour drive and the Maunakea Visitors Center is an hour and 15 minutes. Other sites and adventures include Umauma Zip lining and Botanical World Adventures (5 miles away), Onomea Bay scenic drive and Hawaii Tropical Botanic Garden (8 miles away), the historic town of Honokaa (45 mins), and the beautiful cowboy town of Waimea (1 hour).
Hakalau Springs Campground sits on 11 acres with two springs bordering the property with a variety of fruit trees and farm animals to interact with.
We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night.
We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice.
We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. It can rain hard at times so having a good rain jacket is a great idea. On the other hand, people say that a sunny day on the east side of the big island is the best place to be in all of Hawaii.

Camp under a starry sky with an unobstructed view of Mount Kilauea across a vast and bare moon-like landscape. Fire pit with a grill for cooking, benches, and a beautiful new composting toilet structure made from local albizia, ohia, and guava wood. Mostly hot and sunny, with occasional rain. Access to Volcanoes National Park and Kehena Beach.

Lava covered the site on 5 September 1990, after more than a thousand years of peaceful fertility. The flow met the Hakuma horst and was diverted north, filling the village of Kalapana and the beautiful Kaimu Bay. Lava continued to flow in the area for another 20 years, until 2011. We are restoring the fertility by bringing in mulch and soil and planting coconuts, mango trees, moringa, plumeria, figs, dragonfruits, and more.
Near the camp sites we've recently constructed a house out of local wood; it provides some shelter from the nearly constant trade winds. Premium strawberry guava BBQ firewood can be purchased by prior arrangement. There's a shower with cold water; it doesn't get very cold!
1 mile from ocean cliffs, 2 miles to a basic grocery store and a great weekly farmers market, 2.5 miles to Volcanoes National Park, 5 miles to Kehena public black sand beach at the base of the cliffs, with a community drum circle on Sundays. Welcome to the wild coast of South Puna!
Optionally produce from our nearby rainforest garden. We may offer guided tours to local historical caves and bicycle trips to hidden beaches deep inside Volcanoes National Park.

Mae is the most wonderful host! She is kind, helpful, and very responsive. Her property is beautiful and perfectly situated between the national Park and the amenities of Pahoa and Hilo. Hike all day or hop into town for groceries and the zoo. The kids loved playing volleyball, disk golf, and catching little fish in her pond. 100% would stay with her again!

Stock up on groceries because you will not want to leave this paradise. Shawn was so helpful and knowledgeable. The dogs were sweet and loved playing with the kids. There were tree swings, lime trees, fresh avocados, and the pool and hot tub were the most amazing perks! Swam every day! One bathroom shared between all campers, but it was clean and there are hot showers. Definitely a step up from how we normally camp. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

we loved our hammock cabana stay here! it was very peaceful, the shared spaces were great, everyone was friendly, and there were amazing views from all around the property. the walk into town took about 20 minutes and we had the BEST breakfast and coffee from The Hive!

Wild Blue Waters is a gem! The campsite was super clean and well-maintained. The host was incredibly kind and accommodating. They even checked our tents during a rainstorm while we were out exploring Hilo to make sure nothing was getting wet. That thoughtfulness and care meant so much to us!
The hot tub was absolutely beautiful and the perfect way to relax after long days of adventuring. Amazing place with genuine hospitality. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

We had a great time at Yipcamp with Tom, Yip, and the chickens. Tom was very hospitable, friendly and communicative. The amenities were there, the toilet flushed and the shower got nice and hot! The land at Yipcamp is beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone, and it being close to all the stuff in the Volcano park was perfect. We’d definitely stay again, thank you Tom and Yip!

Excellent tent camping site: quiet, secure, tables, power outlet, kettle, etc. Justine is a wonderful host as well: responsive, friendly, welcoming, lots of positive energy, and willing to share her extensive knowledge of local attractions. We also greatly enjoyed her farm to table dinner.

1 night at Yip Camp and Eco-Retreat Center
Thomas was incredibly accommodating as we booked this cabin last minute so that we could spend more time on the east side of the Big Island without having to drive back to Kona. He was there to greet us in the evening when we arrived after a day at the park, and was there to send us off as we continued on our journey in the morning.
This cabin provides more of a camping feel as the property is off the grid, but you'll find all the essentials such as a full sized bed, linens, warm shower and a toilet. If you're like me and attract mosquitos, bringing a mosquito net may be useful as well.
