Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night. Mauna Loa Camp is about 20 minutes from Hilo on "The Big Island" (Hawaii) in the Hawaiian Acres neighborhood. The actual address is 16-1648 Ooaa Rd. (Road #6), Kurtistown, HI 96760. It’s a 3-acre parcel that’s entirely fenced, with wide open areas to set up wherever you like. We planted lots of fruit trees in 2025 and 2026, and we expect to harvest fruit in 1–3 years. The air is fresh, and the stars are amazing — like I’ve never seen before. I also love the Coqui Frog songs at night. This location is ideal for taking day trips anywhere on the island (about 2 hours to Kona). The waterfront in Hilo is unique, with calm pools of water set well inland from the ocean. Wild orchids and flowers grow at the camp. You can pick wild strawberry guava or hit the local markets for incredible fruits like lychee, longan, rambutan, soursop, oranges, tangerines, avocado, starfruit, lemon, macadamia nuts, pineapple, and banana. All of these are available at markets when in season, and in a few years, some can be picked right at Mauna Loa Camp (perhaps by 2028). I live in the Rochester, NY area and we operate four camps in NY, one in SC, and one in FL. Our sites are rustic — no electricity, no water — just you and nature. We provide portable toilets and/or a porta-potty, and there is a public shower at a park in Hilo. Our goal is to keep our camps simple and in harmony with nature. We expect respect for our land and neighbors, with absolutely zero trash left behind (carry in, carry out). You will love it — everyone does. Hawaii is a special place, and we feel so lucky to be part of it! We rent to only one group at a time, ensuring total privacy. My friends and neighbors in the area are wonderful assets, making it a lovely place to be one with our planet and nature.

There are things to be aware of, it's camping outdoors. There are bugs. Mosquitos, centipedes, fire ants. And there are pigs. Diatomaceous earth is great to put down before making camp. It's natural and detours bugs of all kinds. With the pigs, be louder and bigger than them and don't get between babies and parents.

We camped for 2 nights. I recorded two lengthy recordings of nature which will help me sleep and remind us of a beautiful moment on our trip. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to camp. The dogs didn't roam free all the time and the occasional bark at the strangers ( us ) wasn't a problem. Maybe happened like twice and they were so sweet. Super smart dogs, the shower was great, they had an indoor and outdoor shower. Restroom, and pool / hot tub. So gracious 🫶 thank you!!

We have space for a number of tents on the camping lawn.

We camped in our vehicle at Arnotts lodge. It was so easy to enjoy. The showers and toilets were very clean. Safe neighborhood and the staff is really nice. Highly recommend if you are looking for a place to tent/vehicle camp.

Wonderful stuff and owner of the farm welcome guests!! My kids loved their friendly dogs and beautiful flowers, tropical fruits. There are bathrooms, shower and kitchen just all we need to camp and relax. We'll definitely visit there again in the future!!

We loved our time at Mae’s farm so much we booked agin for a second night! What a beautiful location. Everything was clean, organized and as described but even more beautiful than we imagined! Mae had firewood for sale for us which was also a nice treat and made enjoying our fire very easy! Her dog Nobbs is the sweetest and we loved his visits when he would come to check on us. ❤️ Thanks for every thing Mae! We will be back!

Best Hipcamp on Hawaii. Washer/dryers $7/load. Hot showers, real flush toilets, outdoor kitchen area with appliances for Hipcampers. In a quiet neighborhood on a flat grassy surface. The staff were all so nice!

We had a great time at Blaze's Hipcamp!! The property is beautiful! We really enjoyed sitting along the cliff and watching the waves, the warm shower, flushing toilet, and the hot tub. We we were originally booked for one night, but added a second when our plans changed, and we were so glad did. Highly recommend and we hope to return if we are ever back on the island.

Camping at Blaze’s site was an awesome experience. We 100% recommend his place and would love to come stay here again. The bathroom was clean, the campsite was super cozy, the dogs were so friendly and loving, the pool and hot tub area was incredibly relaxing, and the viewpoint on the cliff overlooking the water was absolutely breathtaking. We had some issues with our rooftop tent camper that we rented through a separate company. Let me be clear, the camper that we rented is in no way associated with Blaze and his property. We booked the camper through a separate company which unfortunately did not provide the service we were hoping for, to say the least. However, Blaze’s brother, Shawn helped us in every way he could to alleviate some of the issues that arose from that experience. We are beyond grateful for his help. Our experience with Blaze’s campsite was absolutely wonderful. We wished we could’ve stayed longer, but we look forward to coming back. If you want a great place to camp on Big Island, look no further.

Weekend Trip to Strawberry Guava Forest Hideaway

The land was located in a little off-grid community. It was a charming place as a whole and I felt more of a connection to the land there than at some Hipcamps. It would have been extremely hard to find in dark, but fortunately I arrived before sunset so it wasn’t too bad. The road, while dirt, was also quite solid. I wish there had been more space to pull off the road by the site, but it didn’t seem to cause a problem with the very minimal traffic. Molly waved me down the next morning as I was leaving and we had a lovely chat - she is very welcoming, with some great local tips, too! I would not hesitate to stay again if I’m ever back in the area.
