Hawaii Island's Best Campsites

6 sites · RVs, Tents8 acres · Naalehu, Hawaii
This epic property was built by a Dillingham daughter and her husband in the early 80's. Transformed into a bed & breakfast in the 90's it is now known as Hawaii Island Resort. This consecutive guest review award winning facility capitalized on the 2018 eruption by starting Hawaii Island Macadamia Nut Company. The orchard has been left alone for more than 20 years with only wild pigs and poultry to tend it. This remarkable property now boasts above organic macadamia nuts just beginning to reach global markets. You can buy cheaper macadamia nuts but you can't buy better nuts. We love to share our abundance with others and opening the property to travelers that love to camp seemed like a perfect addition to our current program. We look forward to meeting you :) We have firewood. Please do not bring any outside sourced wood in. Thanks!

Upon booking you will get an automatic message with details of the exact location and entrance instructions (Late night checkin is fine if you are quiet). If you do not receive this please contact Hipcamp and book our site only through Hipcamp. Our location can be challenging to find if you do not follow the directions. Using the exact GPS is not recommended because a nearby road was closed due to a bridge washing out a few years ago. Some campers did not follow the instructions and were unable to find the campsite due to this.

Kula Manu Farms

2 sites · RVs, Tents2 acres · Holualoa, Hawaii
Kula Manu is an organic farm located on the slopes of Hualalai Mountain in Holualoa, Hawaii. Kula Manu is one of the rare properties with a seasonal river that runs parallel to it, flowing out into the ocean. It is situated about 3 miles away from Kailua-Kona & white sand beaches such as Magic Sands, or snorkeling spots like Kahalu'u. This farm has been, and is, a place of refuge for many visitors - and could very well be called a co-op. Involve yourself as much as you'd like in the different gardens, or take advantage of the landowners intimate knowledge of the island. We will always be able to give advice for fun things to do (& maybe hidden gems!) of the island.

Bring wood, or you can salvage from the jungle. INDOOR we have "The Clubhouse" which is an additional area to get away from the rain where you will find, the lounge with partial ocean view. Our newly renovated large bamboo shower with propane hot water, and kitchen stocked with cooking wares, stove, fridge and sink for guest use. CAMPING SPOT INFO: THE ONLY FLAT SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR CAMPER VANS ARE THE BANYAN SITES (Flower, Tree, & Lawn). We get this question all the time so let me try and clarify here. ALL OTHER PARKING SPOTS ARE ON A HILL AND NOT FLAT. If you can not secure the BANYAN TREE SITES for your camper van, your best option is to book a tent only campsite (where we already have an existing tent set up for you). You will NOT be able to drive to the TENT ONLY sites. You have to park your vehicle in the designated parking area and then walk to and sleep in the tent with your sleeping gear from your van (About 100 feet away from parking area). Included in every reservation at the BAMBOO or OCEAN VIEW / TENT ONLY Sites are a 4-6 Man Sleep Tent, Mattress and 13 Foot Popup Canopy Tent for extra rain protection over the sleep tent. This is already set up and waiting for you! If you need blankets upon HipCamp check out they can be added on for an additional $25. This includes: one large blanket, 2 sheets and 2 pillows, pillowcases, 2 towels and lantern. ONLY TWO PEOPLE PER SITE ARE ALLOWED per reservation. IF YOU HAVE FOUR PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO BOOK TWO CAMP SITES. Please understand that we have limited resources (Space, Kitchen, Bathroom, Shower etc) IF YOU SHOW UP WITH MORE PEOPLE - YOU WILL BE CHARGED $44.00 PER ADDITIONAL PERSON. If you have a child under 8 years old there is no charge but we would still like to be informed that there will be extra people in your party. Please let us know and get permission before you just show up with extra people in your party. We currently request quiet hours at 8pm to be courteous to our neighbors and campers. The sun and moon will rise over the ocean in front. HANA PREPAREDNESS INFO: The East side of the island is considered the rain forest. It typically rains almost every night and during the day at some point or another. And sometimes very heavy rains. This keeps it lush and green with running waterfalls, but with that, Hana does have mosquitoes too, so plan accordingly. We have a few mosquito nets (first come first use) if you need them for your car/van just ask. Also wild pigs activate the neighborhood dogs at times so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise. Also, stock up on groceries before you come out as choices are very limited in Hana and the town closes down early. The Hāna Highway is one of the most magical roads in the world and we appreciate when you let the locals pass. If you have any requests or concerns, just let us know. We aim to please and look forward to hosting you! And be sure to make a reservation to visit the State Park Waianapanpa Black Sand Beach at their website.

TreeHouse in canopy of trees

1 site · Lodging3 acres · Mountain View, Hawaii
Learn more about this land:Aloha,I built the treehouse to be a very romantic hideaway for myself and my honey, and now that I'm renting it out, the couples and families who have stayed here, including many honeymooners have appreciated the romance of the setting and ambiance. (In fact, we had considered calling it KamaSutreehouse when setting up the website!.) It's not just romantic though it's really fun for the kids. The setting is so private, surrounded by such natural beauty that one cannot help but be inspired. My favorite romantic details are the fireplace and the bed perched high up in the loft where you're surrounded by windows looking out at the moon and stars at night and native trees, birds and cloud formations by day, the low ceilinged double futon bed approached by inside later ( which is mostly for kids) and also accessible by crawling under the Master Bed ( about 5 feet up). The Sky-Walk 90 feet out into the forest is the latest whimsical and fun additions. The location is great it's very private and quiet, hidden in the rainforest yet it's only 3 miles from Volcano Village and 5 miles from the park entrance. Some guests a never leave the Treehouse. The TreeHouse is at 2860 feet above sea level, plus 20 ft. for the TreeHouse, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is at a little over 4000 feet above seas level for the viewing of the glow from the vent at a mile distance, on the edge of the crater. For the most comprehensive information about the island and local area, I recommend the book, The Big Island Revealed. The main attraction locally, of course, is Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the hiking thru lava fields, lava tubes and even across the floors of craters. Volcano Village is well known as a premier artist colony and is home to many scientists, as well. Hilo is 25 miles away and has many attractions, including a new, state of the art astronomy museum that shouldn't be missed. And of course the Island is surrounded by beautiful blue ocean and all the activities that go with that.
