This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places..
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot!
The silence is golden and the stars are amazing.
Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping.
It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things.
The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.
Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,.
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also.
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park
nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places..
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot!
The silence is golden and the stars are amazing.
Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping.
It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things.
The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.
Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,.
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also.
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

This was my first glamping experience, and I absolutely loved my stay at Totonami Farm. The mountain views are unreal, and the night sky is incredibly clear, you can actually see the Milky Way, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
It was a bit windy during my stay, but the tent was very sturdy and provided excellent protection. The bed was super comfortable, and the setup had everything you could need: phone charger, outdoor sink, and a proper bathroom, perfect balance between nature and comfort.
One of the highlights was the farm itself. They have the cutest pig, who loves playing around with Tobia the dog, which made the whole experience even more special.
Federico and Arisa were amazing hosts, welcoming, kind, and attentive. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend Totonami Farm to anyone visiting Hawaii and looking for a truly unique glamping experience.
And don’t forget to try their farm-made honey, it’s delicious and made right there on the property 🍯

Weekend Trip to Coco Hut Glamping at Honua La'a
What a unique and remarkably peaceful place. The yurt was extremely comfortable, including the bed, and the hosts were very kind. We would 100% stay here again if we were in the area. Our two-wheel SUV did okay but we needed a little momentum to get up out of the property back onto the road. We did not attempt to take it down to the green sand beach. Definitely stay here to get away from the crowds and absolute silence aside from the sound of rain on the rooftop when it comes and tons of lovely birds.

Yip Camp is easily accessible, located on the big island of Hawaii. This property is just a few miles from Volcano National Park off a cinder forest road. It’s a beautiful place, with chickens and roosters roaming the grounds, very green lush and peaceful. We stayed in the tiny “cottage”. It was exactly what we expected. Rustic, & charming. A dry place to lay our heads after a long day of exploring the island. It has a queen sized bed, a loft with a bed, a table, lanterns, a tabletop burner, pans etc. There is an outdoor toilet and shower with lots of hot water. A table and chairs to sit on outside. There was also a place to have a campfire and a picnic table. Thomas was an excellent host, very friendly and offered ideas of places to visit, explore and dine. Yet he gave us plenty of privacy. He was very easy to get a hold of the day we flew in & returned phone calls promptly. I intended to camp in a tent, but I’m happy I booked the cottage as it rained every day the entire week. Even though it was wet the roads were always accessible. My husband and I had a great experience and would recommend Thomas property Yip Camp to others who were looking for an adventure and a bit of the outdoors and the country over staying in Hilo or Kona.

My man friend and I stayed at the Coco Hut just as it was coming back online after a period of less frequent hosting. We were lucky enough to spend three nights here in a surreal landscape of lava rock, intermittently spaced okai trees, breeze, sky, and, at night, an aggressively loud set of stars. That's the only loud thing about this place as it is otherwise incredibly serene and peaceful. As people who were intending to camp, we were super comfortable in a big bed in a clean little rondavel / yurt/ cabin with a detached rustic toilet area. Thoughtful touches with a disproportionately wide reach started with warm hospitality and responsiveness by our hostess, Debbie, and extended to the cooler (stocked with enough ice for the first night), the outdoor shower stocked with all of the toiletries one would need, a propane burner, a cleaning station for dishes, two serviceable knives and a cutting board, & two each of utensils/plates/mugs.
The location is close to very cool outdoors activities. We enjoyed driving and then walking the rest of the way down the increasingly ROUGH Road to the Sea to check out the green sand beach, as well as an excellent tour of the volcanically created lava tubes, Kula Kai Caverns. At the caverns, you can go on a low commitment, short tour or a longer tour billed at $98 for 2 and 1/2 hours. We chose the latter and had a deep reveal in all senses of the word under the care and education of can tour guide Mo. Wonderful stay w/ great folks!

Great experience - despite the rain, the host did everything to make our stay comfortable, including providing iced coffee and a nice McDonald's breakfast in the morning. The cabin itself was comfortable, and horses, cows and roosters around were just adorable.

This felt like our antidote to high cost, sterile-looking tourist resorts, but with a resort worthy view, and genuine hospitality. The Comfy RV was exactly our speed, and was a magical experience. This spot is ideal if you don’t mind the quirks and nuances of an older RV and value quiet and the natural beauty of the island. The RV is older, but is well maintained, clean and well stocked with what you need to cook, etc. The lanai has the most gorgeous view and is an excellent spot to sit with a cup of coffee, we saw whales one morning, or to do homework midday as my kids did. The evening sunset is beautiful. Mark and Chris are kind and generous hosts. Getting down the driveway from the main road definitely requires 4WD…, for sure. My only hesitation in recommending this gem is that I don’t want it to be booked up the next time we visit! Part of why we want to come back to Hawaii is to have a chance to stay there again.

AMAZING. "Tree houses" are often ill-equipped or just a regular house on stilts. This is a gorgeous, fully-livable, honest-to-god, sways-in-the-wind treehouse in a beautiful, private pocket of Hawaii's iconic rainforest. The kitchen is fully equipped and we made several meals, and hosted four adults comfortably (although two of us slept in a little pocket - it's best set up for two adults and a handful of kiddos). The water pressure is minimal at times, but that didn't cause any real problems, and the walkways, covered porch, massive windows, comfortable seating and beds, etc are all top notch. We travel a lot, and I'm not sure we'll ever top this place.
100/10. Will return!

The room was clean and very comfortable. We slept really well.
We felt very connected to nature. We could park the car close to us, and there is a nice outdoor area to relax and enjoy the view. The host helped us connect so we could charge our phone, which we really appreciated.
Waking up and seeing the animals in the morning was beautiful. We would definitely stay here again. 🌿

2 nights at Sun Farm Hawaii @ Koko Head
I loved staying here! It was so quiet and serene. Was very nice having a kitchen and sitting area as well. Bring earplugs, the chickens like to crow at any hour lol!
Overall a great stay, i would recommend it to anyone and come back again. My only negative was the staff didn’t see very welcoming or friendly. When i arrived they didn’t acknowledge me, i assumed they were other guests but later found out they were the staff/volunteers (not sure). I had said good morning or hi multiple times and never got an answer from anyone. Online and the welcome video mentioned a produce stand, which i saw when i arrived but no one was ever there or offered any produce up for sale. I definitely would have bought some if someone just asked. I just expected a bit more.
Overall great stay, just don’t waste your time trying to speak to staff/volunteers.
