This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you. Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege. While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants. This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

The tree frog serenade must be heard to be believed. If you're looking for an inexpensive and beautiful place to stay near Volcanoes, Yip Camp is great -- has a marine toilet, an enclosed shower with hot water, and Thomas keeps fresh batteries in numerous lanterns for you to use. They're in the middle of a fern and 'ohia tree forest. Thomas and Yip the dog are friendly and courteous. Don't be put off by the drive on a dirt road -- there are plenty of those in Big Island upcountry!

This is a special place, accessible, private and well maintained. The yip cottage with a hot shower is fun and well appointed. Even with other campers on site there was plenty of room and privacy. The cool night temperatures made it restful. Mahalo, Tom for the great conversations and hosting. I enjoyed the stay!

The place was just perfect for what we needed, a safe and dry place to rest, meet great and nice people and eat fresh organic fruits (and a connection for the freshest tuna!). We were able to cook our meal from everthing off the farm in the rustic cabana kitchen. The hot showers were a plus! Thanks for the memorable time!

We really enjoyed staying on Lex and David’s farm. We first stayed in the Banana Patch tent and then the Orchid Wall tent—both were very comfortable and accommodating, with showers, clean linens, and a safe place to stay. I couldn’t imagine that we’d get a better night sleep or a cleaner place at a resort in town. The property itself is incredibly well maintained and beautifully manicured. My husband is a landscaper and especially appreciated the amount of effort that clearly goes into maintaining such a beautiful piece of land. The location is also great—close to the city without actually being in it. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Waimanalo Hawaiian Market, which we absolutely loved.

Weekend Trip to Waimanalo Farmstay

A great peaceful get-away in the country. The site has a nice outlook, you can get in touch with nature and relax The bed was comfortable, and wifi connection fine. You will hear a lot of animals, we enjoyed that, no need for an alarm clock with the roosters etc around. Bring own coffee making set up or instant. Very easy to get to and from beach, market, cafe-restaurants etc.

Exceeded our expectations! Shocked how a house built in a tree was better maintained, functioning and even less bugs than regular houses. But this is not just a place to stay, it was a place to feel, see and experience what true gratitude, thought and love looks like. The sheer amount of effort and care put into building and maintaining a place like this gave me perspective and filled me with gratitude for any and everyone who has helped to make this possible. If youre a person who is seeking something deeper in life this is the place to go. I imagine there have been so many life changing realizations that have taken place at these treehouses. What i wrote while I was there, speculating about what Skye Petterson might have experienced in his life and how he might feel after having brought so much joy to the world was this: "We dont need to force our love on to others or strive for it. Everything we need lies right where we stand, within ourselves. If we can develope the love, respect and understanding of who we are as an individual, we will discover a never ending source of power to accomplish great feats that will naturally express our love to the world and we will find that the world will naturally reflect that love back to us." Thank you Cassandra for working us and sacrificing for our fluctuating time schedule. I can see you have a beautiful soul, dont forget to let it shine, especially on cloudy days.

The cabin is incredibly cute and very comfortable. Thomas is a super friendly host and a nice guy. I would recommend doing the initial approach to the place in daylight as they are rural roads but all in all it's an amazing place to stay
