Lizardsniffer is a working horse farm with a variety of rental cabins and RV slips. We DO allow tent camping. Each RV slip has water, septic, 50 amp service and Wifi. An Amenities Cabin is provided for use by all RV site guests. The cabin includes a full-sized washer/dryer, a full bathroom with bidet, and an oversized jacuzzi tub. Guests must sign-up for a 4-hour timeslot. The cabin is available for use between the hours of 8am-8pm. Many of our RV sites feature private fenced paddocks for people bringing their horses or dogs. Horse visitors require all current paperwork (Coggins, etc.). Dog visitors must be social and friendly and thus are allowed to explore the farm with their owners off-leash if desired. The property includes miles of trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding. Bring your own horse or experienced riders may be able to ride one of ours (subject to weight/experience matching with a horse). There is a small private stocked lake open to all guests of Lizardsniffer for fishing and swimming. At the lake you will find an amenities cabin called Glowy Bobber that has a full bathroom and outdoor shower as well as Kayaks and floats for guest use.

There’s a creek with a Beaver dam near the sites and up the road, there’s a pond you can see when you’re coming in to the sites. The small town of Crawford has a very nice pizza place called Crawford pizza, which has other stuff as well. Also, Crawford laundry is right there for your laundry needs. There is also a really good Mexican place that’s within 2 miles of the sites. And Athens is just 20 minutes away.

The dirt road is within view, but it is a country road rarely travelled by anyone other than kayakers and other recreationists. You may hear the friendly nicker or see our 3 horses coming to check you out, but their pasture area does not intrude on the camping area. Hike or ride your horses on the nearby trails. The Fried Green Tomatoes cafe and Sac-O-Suds (famous from the movie "My Cousin Vinny") [Edit: Sac-O-Suds store is currently closed. But still a scenic drive-by] are an easy drive as well as Covington GA where you can see The Vampire Diary clock tower (or take a tour of other filming locations). There are many quaint shops in town, a 10 minute drive, or in nearby Madison GA. This is a great country getaway to reconnect with nature and peace. We are just far enough away not to be intrusive, but near enough if you need assistance.

We had a very nice stay here. It’s very quiet, tucked up under some beautiful trees. Britt is a great guy y’all! Down to earth, easy to talk to, accommodating and funny. We came in a Class A 40ft, it was a little tight in spots but he’s currently working on that so if we can do it anyone can get in there with ease. We would definitely recommend!!

Weekend Trip to Peace Apalachee

My husband, my two children, and I had an amazing time at the airstream! It felt decadent to have our very own hiking trails. It was remote enough to feel like we were really out in the middle of nowhere, the stars were so incredible because there was no light pollution. The airstream itself was clean, well stocked, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We really enjoyed eating at the picnic table for all of our meals and toasting marshmallows. The outdoor shower was a hit with my husband and I, and because there was a little bathtub, my children were able to take a bath after a very dirty day outside. We would really love to come back in the future and visit again! Highly recommend.

We loved our weekend at the Lizard Sniffer Ranch!! We stayed at the Wilbur site. This horse farm is a little slice of heaven. Although we camped, they also have cabins available. Beautiful, peaceful, private site. No super close neighbors. As a female traveling alone I felt completely safe. Loved the covered front porch, sat and watched the rain while working on my computer. Listened to the birds and crickets at night. They have fans, shades, lights, so many nice little touches to make it a comfortable stay. Enjoyed hiking the property (very clearly marked and maintained trails) and seeing the river. Had a bonfire at night when there was a break in the rain (was glad I brought firewood as I didn’t see any at the site). The rv was adorable, boho/minimalistic/tastefully decorated. Little lights and coffee/creamer/coffee maker provided. Lots of thoughtful touches, bottle of water in the fridge, lighter, etc. I only stayed one night but want to come again to enjoy the hammock, outdoor shower, kayaks. This place was a steal for the price and the host was friendly and communicative and respected my space. I especially enjoyed watching armadillos scurry around at night. Thank you for a great stay!

It's just far enough away to be quite and restful but close enough to all that Athens has to offer. It's off the road and easy to get to. Wide hard pack gravel driveway. Lots are easy to get to. We loved every moment at The Lizard Sniffer Ranch! It far exceeded our expectations! There were surprises around every corner of his beautiful property. We enjoyed riding our bikes on the many paths and trails. The lake was so relaxing and Randy had every Amenity you could ever imagine! Kayaks, floats, fishing gear. The bathroom at the lake was wonderful with an outside shower that I could stay in for hours! The horses, donkey, geese, dogs and lizards were something else. There are so many beautiful little cabins for rent. Randy and his family certainly put much time and love in their vision! Randy was the most gracious host ever! We can hardly wait to return!

Whispering woods is a Totoro Themed dome that is situated on a private portion of the 100 acre property with a beautify view of the woods from the 3 floor to ceiling glass panels.

We booked this on the busy 4 of July. Par two was the perfect get away. My wife felt very comfortable with the farm and the place where she could do her morning walks. The directions using Google maps were perfect and the signage inside the property were perfect. It was a full hookup site. We spent 2 glorious days there and would recommend it. It’s just about 10 minutes from interstate 20.

I enjoyed staying at the Sunrise River RV Park And Campground last week with my faithful sidekick, Mr. Willoughby. We camped right next to the river and it was 15° cooler under the pines with a gentle breeze. Paul and Michelle were very friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived and since there were no others camped in the primitive area down by the river, Mr. Willoughby had the pleasure of getting to roam around with me a lot. There was a big picnic table and a large fire pit, and a huge pile of firewood and kindling, help yourself! Everything you could dream of and then some for a primitive campsite 😁 But the best part was when I went up to the lodge and had a hot shower in their absolutely FABULOUS shower! On top of that they have washers and dryers available. Considering how inexpensive their primitive campsites are, they have all the amenities of the best facilities I've seen. We will definitely be back this fall when we come through. Many thanks to Paul and Michelle, and I have to say thank you to Randy, their on-site manager, who came down the morning after we had a heavy rain to check and make sure we were safe by the river.
