Peaceful Suwannee River Camping

1. Peaceful Suwannee River Camping

22mi from High Springs · 34 sites · Tents, RVs
A quiet, spacious campground with Suwannee River access — intentionally limited, never crowded. Set on over 60 acres along the Suwannee River, this historic property (formerly known as Suwannee River Cove) is under new ownership and being thoughtfully restored and reimagined as Oaken River. Towering oak trees — some hundreds of years old — provide shade, character, and a peaceful sense of place throughout the grounds. While RV sites are set back from the river for privacy and space, guests enjoy the riverfront experience through shared common areas by the water, including a lanai, firepit, fountain area, and oak-shaded gathering spots. A private boat ramp on the property allows guests to easily launch kayaks and small watercraft. River levels vary seasonally, and at times the ramp is best suited for hand-launched or paddle craft. The Suwannee River region is known for its natural beauty and access to multiple freshwater springs and state parks, many within a 10–45 minute drive. Wildlife is part of daily life here — deer are frequently seen on the property, along with birds and other native species. We intentionally open a limited number of RV sites to preserve quiet, space, and the natural landscape. During our soft-opening phase, guests enjoy founding-season pricing while final improvements continue — an opportunity to experience a special place before it becomes widely known. What’s available: • Full RV hookups (35/50 amp, water, sewer) • Newly renovated, premium bathhouse • River access with nearby sandy beach and a private boat ramp • Large oak canopy, stargazing, and peaceful nights • 50+ acres of wooded land to explore, with natural trails and expanding access throughout the forest • Family-friendly, low-density environment Soft-opening note: Some areas are still being improved and you may notice unfinished landscaping near certain sites. This does not affect safety, hookups, or comfort and is reflected in opening-season pricing. A good fit if you value space, quiet, nature, and a campground designed around quality rather than quantity. Not a good fit if you expect resort-style landscaping everywhere or a party-focused environment. Our philosophy: Great campgrounds are defined by how they feel, not how many sites they contain.

Suwannee River Glamping

44mi from High Springs · 8 sites · Tents, RVs
A pet friendly, off leash, dark skies 6 acre slice of paradise in North Florida on the banks of the Suwannee River. In 1990 the State of Florida banned logging within 1,000 feet of the Suwannee River so Southeast Timberlands sold off it's holdings and we were lucky enough to purchase 6 acres and 444 feet of riverfront. A designated "Pristine Scenic Waterway" with very steep banks, the Suwannee is one of the few"wild" rivers left in the United States and can rise over 30 feet to flood stage almost overnight; yet due to its unique topography we can access it no matter how high or low the water. The Forest Service has bought up the surrounding lots, creating a 10 mile Conservation corridor supporting the National Scenic Florida Trail, it's clearly marked footpaths and natural attractions. To that end, we have left the old growth upland forest the way we found it. The campsite is a natural feature as is the Zen deck and canoe launch, a swale draining the ridge. The campsite is level, the lane to the river slopes gently dropping in elevation 20 feet over 1,000 in making it easy for able bodied guests to navigate their way to the white sugar sand beach. We want to share our retreat with those who are looking for a real wilderness experience in an exclusive private setting. A Waiver of Liability is required by all guests as the Wilderness is an inherently dangerous place. We only offer one accommodation per weekend with a maximum of 8 people, because we only have 1 toilet, so our guests can have the seclusion they desire and be free to enjoy the natural wonder of the woodland experience in any manner they choose.

The property includes three thoughtfully designed buildings: Cabin – comfortable air-conditioned sleeping quarters with private bathroom Bunkhouse – group-friendly lodging (six adult-sized bunkbed sets) with bathroom Cabana – the social hub with outdoor bar, kitchen, commercial ice machine and hangout space Together, Camp Declan comfortably hosts up to 18 overnight guests and is ideal for families, youth retreats, reunions, fishing buddies, retreat weekends, and anyone seeking a down-to-earth, unplugged getaway with real space to spread out. We purchased our 3.39 acres two years ago and all that was on it was a RV and lots of pine trees, palmettos, woods and a small pond in the front of the property.  Over those two years we have turned it into our little piece of heaven.  We've added two more RV hookups which our son parked his camper on one.  We built a fully furnished cook shed and on the back side of it we have an enclosed fish cleaning area.  The cook shed also has an enclosed eating area.  In addition, we build a full size bath house / laundry room for the convenience of our campers.  We cleared out the back of our property and had a large fish pond dug and it is actually spring fed.  We have stocked it with all kinds of fish.  We have a dock that goes out to the pond and you can stand and feed the fish.  If you like to fish you can catch and release.  There is also a table and chairs out next to it if you want to sit and relax.Learn more about this land:Quiet 3.39 acres with a RV hookup, two ponds, a separate bathhouse/laundry room on the premises in addition to a cook shed with grills and cookers (propane included) along with fish cleaning station. We have a fire pit available to use (wood included). We're located approximately a mile from the boat ramp and Roy's restaurant where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets. Keaton Beach is just 17 miles from us which has a nice little beach and beautiful scenery.

Where to go

O'Leno State Park & River Rise

A few miles north of High Springs, O’Leno State Park offers excellent fishing along the Santa Fe River, challenging anglers to reel in large-mouth bass and sunfish. The park’s 11 miles of hiking and biking trails connect with the River Rise Preserve State Park trail system, providing chances to spot wildlife like deer, turkey, and wild rabbits. The park has both primitive and well-appointed RV campsites with electrical hookups in a pet-friendly setting. It also hosts festivals year-round with live music, food vendors, and activities for the whole family.

Ichetucknee Springs State Park

Enjoy tubing down the Ichetucknee River year-round at Ichetucknee Springs State Park. Tubers can bring their own inflatables or rent them within the park. Float from Midpoint Launch to Dampier’s Landing, then use the concession tram service or hiking trail to return to the parking lot. Or, paddle down the river in canoes and kayaks, spotting wading birds, river otters, and manatees in their natural wetland habitat. Experienced swimmers will enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving at Blue Hole Spring, exploring underwater caves among warm cyan waters shared by turtles and fish.

Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park

With diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes, Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park offers terrific opportunities to reconnect with nature. Wild horses and bison freely roam expansive prairies, while hundreds of bird species fill the trees and skies. Follow the LaChua Trail to the 50-foot observation tower for panoramic views of wet prairie and marsh habitats. Then set up at one of the park’s back-in RV sites with 30-amp electric hookups. Most can accommodate RVs up to 58 feet in length. The well-shaded campground also houses tents and provides accessible hot showers, restrooms, and ranger-led campfire programs from November to February.

When to go

Florida summers near High Springs can be hot and humid, with temperatures rising well into the 90s. Spring and fall are enjoyable times of the year to go camping—not just for the milder weather. Migratory birds like swallow-tailed kites with their impressive aerial acrobatics nest in the area during spring. Bass, bluegill, and crappie tend to be more active during spring and fall too, making for excellent fishing opportunities.
