Hawkwood Farm is a historic property in the Catoctin Mountains. The house dates back to 1803. At that time, it is documented that there was a blacksmith shop on the property. There is a functioning blacksmith shop today, as well as an expansive wood working shop. A ;band of rhyolite runs through the property that was used by Native Americans for spear points dating back to the paleolithic period. Presently, we strive to live as sustainably and as closely to nature as possible, being good stewards of the land that we are blessed to call home. Easy to find site but definitely have an off road capable vehicle to cross the stream. Low slung sedans won't make it Camp site was clean, flat, and private. Only major criticism is easier access to the Porta John. You need to drive back across the stream to get to it as the sewer pipe cannot be used to walk across. Driving out isn't always a option with tents in the way. My other personal opinion is the fire ring could be bigger. Seemed too small for such a large site

Had a great time tent camping here! The site was the perfect size and nicely situated next to the creek and away from other sites. We had a little trouble finding our way to the site but we were in the dark 😅 had no trouble crossing the river and the area felt very safe. Would recommend!

Overall, this was a great camping spot — beautiful views and an easy walk to the river. The only downsides were that it could’ve been cleaned up a bit more (some faded signs and a little trash here and there), and our site was closer to the road than expected, so there was some traffic noise. And while not the campground’s fault, there were so many spiders! That said, I’d still be more than likely to come back — no place is perfect, and that’s part of the camping experience!

This campsite was truly a very special place. The view and the location could not have been better, right on the Shenandoah River. The host was super responsive. The amenities were great, including kayaks, yard games, lots of chairs, an outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen, fire pits, and wood available for purchase. There was plenty of space for the 13 kids and 4 adults between our family and another who planned this as a fun getaway for our families. Our dog was able to roam free all weekend, which was a real treat for her too. We were hooked up with our RV and our friends brought multiple tents and there was plenty of space and access to electric and water. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely spot with easy access to the site (beware you must have a vehicle with ample clearance for a stream crossing) and river access just over a small hill from the camp area. Note: you cannot see the river from the camp site. And if you are wanting a very quiet experience think again because there is a continuous hum of traffic from Route 15, day and night. There is a nice circular walking path if you want to take a stroll around the fields. For something close to Baltimore it's a good option.

Excellent site, plenty of room, stocked some firewood for us to get started, and just generally an amazing first camp with my boy. Not too far away either, and was just a cool site right by the river. Couldn’t be better and Will never forget this site!

This is a safe and clean area for tent camping. The property is over 50 acres, so other campers are usually not too close unless you choose to set up near them. During the fall, the river was quite shallow, and there was a sign indicating that fishing isn’t allowed. The nearest grocery store is about 9.5 miles away, so plan ahead for supplies. There are no showers, electricity, or running water on-site, but portable toilets are available. The management is easy to reach by phone and very responsive.

My group of 4 loved Site 5! There was so much space, had its own trail to the creek, and was pretty easy to find. I was surprised that we had to drive through a shallow creek to get there but it wasn’t a problem! We went on a hike in Fredrick Municipal Forest (~25 min away) where there are plenty of trails. We went mid-october and the foliage was scenic. Overall a great trip, a great location, and site! Thank you!

I surprised my husband and two dogs with a camping, canoeing, and kayaking trip. Our first overnight stop was at the Riverside Retreat. At first, the area seemed very underdeveloped with rough and bumpy roads. I was especially worried that my smaller SUV and new trailer hauling all the gear wouldn't make it since the way was narrow. We found the check-in site at Rappahannock Camp Grounds very easily, and overall had no issues with the roads. It was already getting dark, but thankfully, it was easy to follow the verbal instructions to get to the Hipcamp site. Honestly, if you don't mind feeling a little "lost" then the reward at the end is SO worth it. After going down the dirt road as far as you can, there's open areas next to some fields and a shallow river with perfectly crystal clear water and river rocks all along the bottom. There are two access points to the river. One immediately when you pull up to the fields and one further hidden all the way to the left side of the area under the trees. I loved that you could choose to either camp under the open stars or in a forested patch. We ended up next to the field where the ground was flat and setup. There were metal fire rings provided if you wanted to have a campfire, and a porta potty on either end of the camping space. The dogs had such a great time playing in the shallow water and I loved getting to hear the sound of the river flowing over the rocks. Even with other families there, it still felt private. We'll be back!

I wanted somewhere secluded to unplug and this place delivered! I selected a spot in the woods and it was heaven; the property was well maintained with mowing and clearing, and the amount of noise was minimal despite other campers being on site. There were also multiple porter John’s available for use and a dumpster at the entrance for convenience. Easy river access, walkable paths, and all the nighttime sounds. It’s a must visit.

Camping on the meadow at Hawkwood Farm was a delight. The campsite is back far from the road in the midst of fields, but you can drive your car along easy paths up an area very close to the campsite. The design and landscaping of the meadow area is very charming: a large ring area with mown paths and circles within it, and a firepit, picnic table, and some camp chairs in the middle. An extremely quiet and peaceful place. There's also a clean and well-maintained port-a-potty that's about 200 yards away from the campsite. I will likely come back for another stay (and hopefully persuade my girlfriend to join me)

Secluded and private, yet 25 minutes to downtown Annapolis, 10 minutes to the Bay, great for cycling, paddleboarding, kayaking all 10/15 minutes from farm. DC 45 minutes, Baltimore 1 hour. Jug Bay wetlands, wineries, fun little waterfront towns and Bay front restaurants all within easy reach. Check out individual sites for description, each has its own personality. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. First listing actually has several options. For large campers/coach/fifth wheelers the area by the tractor shed will be the best. Around the corner there's two other choices both with firepits which will accommodate units up to 40 feet depending on your backing/maneuvering skills. Field of Dreams and Sycamore Ridge will accommodate campers under 25 feet with some backing/maneuvering skills. For those with 4WD and an off-road camper/trailer/tent choose Off the Grid, two entrances for easy access, travel along a logging road to an open site with fire pit. Hawkwood Farm is a historic property in the Catoctin Mountains. The house dates back to 1803. At that time, it is documented that there was a blacksmith shop on the property. There is a functioning blacksmith shop today, as well as an expansive wood working shop. A ;band of rhyolite runs through the property that was used by Native Americans for spear points dating back to the paleolithic period. Presently, we strive to live as sustainably and as closely to nature as possible, being good stewards of the land that we are blessed to call home. If you are looking for lots of open space with a sensational view of the sky then this is the place for you! This site is great for viewing all kinds of celestial events. You will also have access to the rest of what Hawkwood Farm offers including forest trails and an array of wildlife. Please note the farm entrance address is 11935 Simpsons Mill Road, Keymar, MD, but the farm is technically located in Union Bridge. Enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and relax near the campfire with your wood fired dinner. This site has electric and water hookup and firewood is available for a small fee. The campsite is situated at the highest point of Willows Farm, offering tranquil farm views, gorgeous mountain vistas and spectacular sunsets. Soak up the beautiful countryside during your stay on the farm and hike our 25 acres of wooded property and chase a few bunnies and spot a herd of deer. Take a brisk walk to the cattle pastures and chat with our curious and friendly Black Angus heifers, Eleni, Lola and Maggie and say hi to our horse Albe. All of the fencing at Willows Farm is electric to keep our cattle and horse in and you will get shocked if you touch it. Please be mindful of this with your pets and children. If you are fortunate enough to have the timing right, you can even watch an airplane take off and land on our farm grass strip — "Willows Landing", which is just to the north (cardinal direction) of the campsite. Just 30 minutes to Gettysburg battlefields, historical downtown Frederick, and many other exciting places for exploration, Willows Farm is a great location for fun! Spend an evening watching Bull riding and barrel racing at J Bar W Ranch just a few minutes down the street in Johnsville. If vineyards and breweries are your thing we are just 15 - 30 minutes from many fine establishments. A few of our favorites are Black Ankle Vineyards, Linganore Winecellars and Attaboy Beer. Antique shopping abounds in the nearby charming, little town of New Market. So you're hungry and have a hankering for local cuisine? Take a five minute drive to the quaint downtown of Union Bridge and visit one of the three delicious family run restaurants. Our property is in Howard County, Maryland, and is super convenient to I-95, I-295, Hwy 32, and I-70. It is centrally located between Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, and Frederick, MD. We are located right off of Highway 32 down a long, private paved driveway. What makes our property unique is all that it has to offer--it's an 18 acre oasis with mature woods protected by a conservation deed, lightly rolling hills, beautiful fields, wetlands, and a pond. It is not surprising to see deer and our local great blue heron on the property throughout the day. There is also a fire pit, which you are free to use. Firewood is free.
