This was our second time camping here, and it was again wonderful. Jo was incredibly accomodating as we navigated getting out of the city, and the a-frame is so cozy! We also loved the (brand new) outdoor showers. On the rainy day we checked out nearby restaurants and Berkshire towns - especially recommend Great Barrington. We'll definitely be back!

Joanna’s sites are beautifully and thoughtfully laid out. The airstream was comfortable and fun to sleep in. Joanna was communicative and helpful. We saw turtles in the pond, a barred owl, lotsa birds and deer walked by too.

This was my second trip to Uppershire. It’s a wonderful piece of property with amazing hosts Barb and Joanna. Each site is curated carefully and the amenities keep being added. Last year a hot outdoor shower and this year a new log cabin for a glamping experience. Although I am a squaredrop camper (think queen bed on wheels) I really appreciate the serene land coupled with the amazing hosts, and cute town ta boot.

Andrea was a great host to us during our short weekend stay. The space is homey and quiet despite being in a residential neighborhood. We felt safe and alone. I booked this site because of the bathtubs and began to feel very hesitant about it since we had a lot of wind, some rain, and it was exactly warm out. Once the time came to enjoy our soak though, it was soooooo worth it. We cut our stay a little bit short due to a steady increase of critters trying to get out of the rain but none the less had a wonderful time. We spent our days skipping around the local towns and buying everything in sight both edible and not. We’re leaving with full cars and bellies.

My group who stayed at Andrea’s glampsite had such a great time. Andrea was communicative, attentive and friendly. She made sure we had everything we needed. The hot tub experience was just magical, and the fire pit was perfect to cook a meal over and gather around. We loved how close this campsite was to town, yet it also felt like a little private getaway from it all. The tent itself was spacious yet cozy. What a special time and space. Highly recommend!

This site is such a magical place! The Fern Gully Sanctuary cabin is adorable and had everything we needed. It got pretty chilly on our second night but Andrea was so kind and brought us some extra blankets to make sure we stayed warm. It was also the perfect mix of wilderness and civilization for an impromptu fall camp trip!

Weekend Trip to Atland Artist Residency
I had such a great time at the cabin! The hosts were great (two women while I was there). Everything was super clean and well thought out, I had brought several things that I ended up not needing to unpack because the little (it is very little…) cabin was so well stocked! The trails on the property are short but awesome, the outdoor shower was great. The outhouse was beautiful and very clean. The Wi-Fi was pretty good and fast, but it was a little bit spotty/in and out. I came to the cabin as a tiny solo writing retreat and spent a lot of time inside and though it small and chilly outside I was very comfortable and cozy! I will say I also saw a few critters in the cabin, nothing to be alarmed about but if you’re opting for a cabin over a tent because outdoor friends are a 100% no for you, you have to remember the cabin is still in the woods 🙃 I felt super safe as a solo woman, with lots of privacy but the main Atland house in view for emergency/peace of mind. Excellent location. Would totally come again.

Our extra large tent can hold a family/friend group of up to 8 comfortably, but is also cozy enough for a couple's getaway. Your private campsite is on the edge of a mixed-wood forest. Deer roam free and you will surely hear the call of coyotes and owls at night. Centrally located within 10 minutes of downtown Amherst, 15 minutes to downtown Northampton, this tent is the perfect base camp to access all that this region has to offer. Flea markets and farmers markets on the weekends, malls, museums and numerous restaurants in the area should you decide to venture out for a bite to eat. Holland Glen, a popular hiking spot with waterfalls and swimming holes is a quick 3-minute drive to the trail head. It is an easy 1-mile ride to the start of the Norwotuck Rail Trail a paved bike path through wetlands and rolling farmland. Or simply stay put, unplug, and relax in one of the hammocks or enjoy our one of a kind wood-fired hot tubs! Our guests are welcome to wander around our little homestead have your coffee in the pollinator patch and watch the hummingbirds, butterflies and bees do their thing. Feed the chickens, then nibble your way through our berry patches, fruit trees and gardens and experience what it is like to live simply in New England. Cook a meal over the fire - we will provide the cast iron pans and dishes if needed. ***This past winter was hard on our tent. There are stains that have been cleaned but will not budge. The canvas stretched and the zipper no longer closes all of the way. We are lowering the cost of the site until a new tent arrives. The Upper Shire Private Campsites in the Hudson Valley are on a gorgeous hill with a small pond surrounded by 22 acres of an old horse ranch. It is located in Columbia County near the Massachusetts and New York border. There are currently 5 unique camping areas located here. Each one is special due to its location on the hill. Check out our map and enjoy our spacious yet secluded campsites and our new off-grid double shower shack with hot and cold water on demand. This place has a relaxed atmosphere and is located near Catamount Ski Resort, Bash Bish Falls, Taconic State Park, Hudson NY, and Great Barrington, MA. If you plan on bringing a pet please be sure to add that fee to your booking under "extras" ($25) If you have additional guest(s) that would like to join you that fee is ($25 a night per person) and you will need to message us about how to arrange that. A Spiritual Garden Retreat off the beaten path but close to civilization. Camping with botanical story book feel. Enjoy the pool. Walk through the gardens around the house. Recline in the wooded gardens, go for a swim when in season, or head into town. Eat in or enjoy any number of fine foods from various ethnicities. Relax in the plush modern movie theater. Enjoy a local community theater production. Or get in your trills at Quassy Amusement Park. Hike or bike a multitude of trails and paths within minutes. Want to hear live local musicians or go to a concert, we have that too. Or maybe you prefer a museum or art show. Or maybe a winery, brewery or distillery is more to your taste, we have these within in 20 minutes or less from us. We also offer a night of farm to table (seasonal) smoked food such as turkey, beef, pork, fish, cheese and/or vegetables for $70 per person. Don't worry about the weather. Or guests repeatedly say is that even when it rains, it is still a great adventure as the sound of the rain on the tent is just soothing and relaxing. Joan and Chris have been together since 1996 and married since 2000. Joan runs two nonprofits related to psychological abuse and custodial interference as well as dabbles in the arts creating products from recycled and repurposed materials. Chris has been master carpenter and cabinet maker since the 1980’s. The two spend time keeping the grounds and gardens up and going out to dance. They love live music. The property is also the home to 3 cats. While physical check out of the tent is 10am, please ask if you would like to stay later. We can do a day rental of just the pool and gardens for an additional fee of $600 for parties of up to 20 people. For larger events, such as weddings, please contact us to discuss. Please ask if you would like to stay a little later than typical check out time. We often can accommodate. Please do NOT pick the fruits or veggies without asking as often things are not quite ripe yet. When things are ripe, we will try to put a bowl of fresh stuff out for you to choose from. Of course, it goes without saying, Please be considerate and clean up after yourselves. No smoking cigarettes or e-cigarette, vapes in the tent. If you need to bring a pet, they must be well-trained and not have an issue with cats or other dogs as we have 3 cats. Pets are NOT allowed to go to the bathroom on the lawn or in the gardens. They must either go in the woods or in the designated area for this. Please clean up after your pet if in the designated area. Ask us for how and where. We provide a wide range of amenities including first aid, bathroom and shower supplies. If you forget your tooth brush we usually have new extras around. Please bring bathing suits. We do have pool towels if you need them. If you need ice for our or your coolers, please purchase before hand. There are two supermarkets in town along with lots of other amenities in town. Please do not smoke in the tent as it sticks to the canvas. But you are welcome to smoke or vape outside of the tent. Parking on site off of the driveway across from the house. Please let us know if you need a later checkout time as checkout time can be altered to later in the day depending on new arrivals. The pool area is shared with the homeowners. If there is something you need, please do not hesitate to ask. We are pretty reasonable about requests. If you would like breakfast or a smoked meal, please let us know as there is an additional fee for this.
