Thousand Peaks Ranch Campground in Hartsel has Scenic Mountains, is a getaway and a home away from home for many users. The campsites are best suited for tents and RV stops. Some of the campsites are close to stunning views and you can sleep every night to the sounds of coyotes and other animals. We are very close to many places where you can find a river to fish, take a walk in nature or take a quick dip in the cold waters. Thousand Peaks Ranch Primitive Campground is a 40-acre site each with a table, fire pit and grill. There is a fee for its use and the stay limit is three weeks. We have well water to supply your shower and are located close to the center of the camp. Thousand Peaks Ranch offers a group campsite with 8 separate group campsites. These sites vary in size: Group sites 1, 2, and 7 ($40/ night) can accommodate between 10 and 25 people per site. Group sites 3-6 ($80/night) can accommodate between 25 and 50 people per site. Group Site 8 ($120/night) accommodates up to 75 people. Each site is equipped with 1 or 2 picnic tables and a Fire Pit. Ample space to pitch a large tent. The large lean to with chairs and table was great for dinner on a cool evening. We had to pack up and get moving but this would be a fun place to stay for a couple days in the area. Gerry was kind and helpful.

Weekend Trip to Frenchman's Creek Ranch
This was my first time car camping and it should be called “GLAMPING” because of all of the extra amenities! We loved the gas fire pit and string lights at our site. Having electricity and water at the site helped us stay warm in the car, as we plugged in 2 heated throws. Both Belinda and Todd greeted us separately and provided us with helpful information. We loved interacting with the farm animals, especially the Jacob Sheep and turkeys! The bathhouse was very clean. The shower was especially modern and nice to have during our stay. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Great spot especially for a group. Definitely will come back if in the area. They were very accommodating with the fire pit and table. Fire pit was super nice, we were able to put a grill that we brought right on top and cook our dinner over the fire. The sunset and stars were amazing. Seeing the Milky Way with bare eyes is always a treat.

I had a solid stay. Great mountain views. Fire pit kept me warm and dry after a brief rain while setting up camp. Great midway point to split a longer drive into two legs for a holiday weekend adventure. Enjoy seeing farm animals on the way in an out, although the dirt road causes some serous rumble factor in certain areas.

We had such a wonderful stay at Frenchman Ranch in Buena Vista! Belinda and Todd’s property is absolutely beautiful, everywhere you look feels like a postcard. We found ourselves constantly stopping to take photos of the ranch, the vintage equipment, and of course the cows we got to watch every day. The animals added so much charm to our experience, handsome George (the pig) kept us company, and the sassy sheep strutted around like they owned the place (and honestly, we loved it). It felt like a true slice of Colorado ranch life. The location is also perfect, peaceful and scenic, yet just a short drive to downtown Buena Vista, where you can enjoy shops, dining, and the charm of town. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, and we’re so grateful to Belinda and Todd for sharing their special property with us. Highly recommend!!!

This was our second year coming to Belinda and Todd’s amazing property! What a gift it was to explore again and settle in such a perfect camp spot with our pup and 20’ travel trailer. Highly recommend. Close to town. Such great hospitality and touches (and super clean shower house!!) loved the propane fire pits - no need for firewood. Our river time was priceless (a beautiful 3/4 mile walk) for some of the best views of the Arkansas! Goats cows and rooster an added touch. Thank you, we will be back!

Where to go

Dillon Reservoir Recreation Area

On the eastern end of Main Street, the Frisco Bay Marina provides easy access to the Dillon Reservoir and its 27 miles of shoreline. The marina offers kayak, paddleboard, and pontoon boat rentals, boat tours, and guided fishing trips. Three national forest campgrounds sit just minutes from downtown Frisco in the Dillon Reservoir Recreation Area.

Breckenridge

Just 10 miles south of Frisco, Breckenridge is a top Colorado summer destination and home to one of America’s favorite ski resorts. From mountain biking and hiking to fly fishing, rafting, and horseback riding, the town has it all, including live music and festivals in summer. The closest campgrounds are around the Dillon Reservoir, while free dispersed camping is available on Boreas Pass Road. 

Green Mountain Reservoir

Campers will find more options at Green Mountain Reservoir, a 40-minute drive from Frisco. There are seven campgrounds around the lake, and most are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fishing and boating are the most popular activities at the lake, but there’s also hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and a designated swimming area.  

When to go

June through early September is the best time for hiking, biking, and water sports in Frisco. Summer is the busiest time to visit, but it’s also the most pleasant time to visit weather-wise. Frisco sits at 9,097 feet meaning expect chilly evening temperatures even in summer. Dillon Reservoir campgrounds are typically open from mid-May through early October. Ski season typically runs from early November and through early April.   

Know before you go

  1. Frisco has grocery stores, outdoor gear shops, and lots of restaurants. Find even more services in neighboring Dillon and Silverthorne.  
  2. The Heaton Bay and Peak One campgrounds on Dillon Reservoir can be reserved up to six months in advance.
  3. Campsites at Frisco’s Pine Cove Campground are available first-come, first-served only.
