Centrally located to the best Canyonlands has to offer, our camp is located on 25 acres less than half a mile from Looking Glass Arch, a popular rock climbing destination which got its name from the conquistadors who would climb to the top and look through a “looking glass” for landmarks that would lead them back to Santa Fe.
Moab is 25 miles to our North, about a 30 minute drive. The nearest convenience store/gas station is in the tiny town of La Sal, 12 miles NE of us. Although the Lasal Jct. now has burger truck, showers, ice and snacks. The nearby La Sal mountains rise to over 12,000 in elevation and is a great place to get out of the heat and enjoy lakes surrounded by beautiful pine and aspen forests.
As the name suggests, Where The Wild Things Camp truly is wild and not for everyone. We are off grid, meaning there is NO electricity, no drinking water, and only "spotty" cell phone service is best just anywhere before bathrooms. Make sure to check the weather forecast before coming out and be prepared for anything as the weather here in the desert can be unpredictable and ALWAYS stake down your tents! Porta-Potty's available. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRACTICE PACK-IT-IN AND PACK-IT-OUT. Trash service not available.
NON-AGGRESSIVE dogs are always welcome, however please keep in mind that a lot of our wild friends also live here, such as coyotes, rattlesnakes, deer and antelope. We wouldn’t want your pets or our friends harmed in any way!
From Moab: Drive south on Hwy 191 for approximately 23 miles and turn right (east) onto Looking Glass Rd/Co. Rd. 131 (It will be the first right after La Sal Junction) Continue on this road for 1.4 miles until you see a wide gravel road branching off to the left. Turn left, this road will branch again in .03 miles, turn to the right and continue straight (another .5 mile to WHERE THE WILD THINGS CAMP!!

Indian Canyon Ranch is a rugged, isolated, off grid property which focuses on enjoying the outdoor beauty of our little corner of the spectacular American South West.
Please be advised, that during heavy rain four-wheel drive may be necessary but in all cases low clearance vehicles are not ideal on the last section of road but if you arrive before dark and go slow any vehicle can make it. If you arrive after dark the last bit of road looks more challenging than it actually is due to shadows on the surface caused by the head lights. Units are not heated. Please plan to show up before dark for the best experience and ease of finding the location.
Indian Canyon Ranch is proud to be an independent, off grid property with limited solar power and water available. There are no RV hook ups available but there is limited solar power in the rental units and in the communal area but not in the primitive campsites. Campsites are primitive camping only. Showers in the main communal area are solar powered and only hot with the sun and for an hour or so after sunset
Joe purchased this property in 2008. At that time, it was 8 acres, and it is now at 20 acres continuous property. The ranch is situated 2 miles off the highway down a bumpy dirt road on the edge of the national forest, this gives you a feeling of being in the wilderness. The south and east sides are boarded by canyons and ruins. All other private properties in the area are 10 acres or more so are well spread out and sparsely populated.
All the structures on site were brought here piece by piece and were salvaged from construction projects in Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks. Water is manually hauled in and the power in the kitchen area is solar generated so please be conscious of water and power use.

The farm is on Highway 145 so you will hear traffic during the day but very quiet at night. Fantastic stars at night. We had such a great stay! The tipi was a really cool and unique camping experience, close enough to Moab to get to everything easily, but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle of town. It was peaceful, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for.
Our favorite part of the trip was definitely Ringo, the sweet dog on the property. He “showed us around” and played with our dog the entire stay. Watching them run and explore together was honestly a highlight.
Danny was incredibly kind and hospitable. He checked in on us, made sure we were comfortable, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his guests having a good experience.
We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Camping at Where The Wild Things Camp was a main highlight of our 10 day camping road trip through CA, Utah, New Mexico and CO. The campsite is set in the most incredibly gorgeous landscape, its pure magic. Each site has a beautifully crafted campfire location and the porter potty was spotless.
A short walk away is a really incredible rock formation that you can climb into. It’s like a giant amphitheater with a cave at the top. We look forward to coming back on day :)

We stayed at Old Corrals in our 47’ fifth wheel with two dogs and loved every minute. The site sits on huge open cattle lands that back up to almost two million acres of national forest — pure space and silence. Trails go on forever, from dirt roads to faint animal paths. During the fall rut we heard elk calls echoing across the hills, and the cattle wandered by like friendly neighbors.
Hiking from camp brought sweeping views of the desert below, a winding river, and distant mountains. There are ancient Pueblo ruins nearby and endless public lands to explore.
Joe was a great host — friendly, helpful, and clearly proud of his land. Even though he was out working fences, we rarely saw another soul.
Note for big rigs: the last few miles are on unpaved road. It’s smoother than expected, but if rain is coming, plan to head out early — it turns impassable when wet.
We’ll definitely be back.

This was a great place to camp. We were the only ones there so it was nice and quiet. My 7 year old loved to explore all the camps site with the unique decor. Definitely would camp there again. I wouldn’t recommend getting there after dark. It was just a bit tricky in the day light.

I found this camp at the last minute, while pulled over on the side of the road. It was awesome! The owner came and showed me around and advised me on working the hot shower. There.was a pond, total privacy, with everything I needed. It was lovely and I would definitely recommend staying at CampV!

Amazing camp. Unbelievable views. So much fun hiking around the campsite and exploring the local arch and rock outcroppings. My buddy and I took out 4 year olds out to this camp for 3 nights of camping while visiting the Moab area and it was one of my favorite campsites I've ever booked. 10/10 would recommend.

Danny was amazing! I love camping and staying at places where hosts put in effort to create a relationship with the people staying. We loved Ringo (the dog) as well and Danny even offered us some fresh veggies from his beautiful garden. I honestly cannot wait to come back to Utah just to hang out and stay a couple nights. 11/10 and 6 stars (out of 5). If you love people, dogs, farm animals, gardens, and watching the sun rise in the Utah desert, this is the place to stay! Thank you Danny. We’ll be back.

10/10 recommend!! Very secluded campsite, next to both Arches and Canyonlands! Host is great, very friendly and you can tell he puts effort into the campground and takes pride in it! I definitely plan to come back here on our next visit to Moab!!

This camp site is one of the best I’ve been at. We drove from Pittsburgh to camp in Moab and several places in Colorado and this was the best places we stayed at Its was super peaceful and beautiful, the views of looking glass Rock were pretty spectacular.

1 night at High Sage Hogans
Camping in Danny’s Tipi was a great experience! Easy to get there, Danny was very friendly and helpful. Loved the animals on his property as well, would highly recommend trying this spot out for an arches or Utah trip.

Great instructions and communication with Steven. This was a convenient spot overnight on our road trip to Colorado.
Lots of space - we were the only ones there but knew that. It was rather windy the night we stayed, which was unusual based on other reviews. Great sunset/sunrises. Portapotty was clean.
Note for other campers- we had signal on our phones with Verizon/Sprint at the campsite.
