A great spot to support evening and late night arrivals to avoid driving all over looking for a dispersed spot during busy times. Worry free! It is stocked with drinking water, oil, S&P, coffee, tea, marshmallows and fresh eggs from our chickens will be provided daily. The tent is equipped with a wood burning stove and stocked with firewood. Additional firewood can be purchased. Kindling and fire starters are also available at no charge- let us do the hard work - you RELAX! Electricity is provided, so you can charge your phone or whatever else you need. Enjoy your private fire pit, chill in the rocking camping chairs, or walk across the field to the main house and enjoy the hot tub on the deck. Winter camping experience/equipment and a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle with severe snow-rated tires and chains may be required to access the yurt Oct-April. We have lots of large fields (110 acres) A river running through to dip into and secluded areas to be at one with the magical beauty here. The land is big although we have 7 camping spots listed, and they are mowed all summer, there is plenty of room to usually be able to choose your own exact spot. This is a cut above basic camping with some nice amenities! We have very friendly dogs, horses and goats. The dogs are out and about and will want to greet you and possible hang out a little. It’s their home too:) We often have a friends yaks grazing here and the next door neighbors cows are always there.

We had a lovely (but challenging, carrying a toddler) hike up and stay at Cabin #2. The cabin was quaint, clean and more well-appointed than expected (I guess we didn't need to pack a hatchet?). It was hovering around freezing when we arrived, but we got the stove lit and got the space up into the 50s for a comfortable night. Sunrise was lovely from bed and we finished our trip with a hike up to the lake in the morning before descending to the car.

4WD Spirit Ranch is comprised of 35 acres of isolation in the lush green aspen forest, above the sage and juniper at 8800’. Somewhat hard to get to, up a bumpy road, it’s very private, quiet and green. Within 45 minutes to the city of Montrose, a day trip to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Ouray, the Cimarron's and the San Juan's. Spirit Ranch’s seclusion gives you respite from civilization. Soak in the peace. To access the property, you need some clearance, AWD or 4WD is recommended (something like a RAV4 or better). Larger vehicles will probably touch some soft branches along the way. After a big rain, the road can be muddy and slick. Not a serious jeep trail, but definitely “off roady”. The last 1.4 miles is through a locked gate through private property. Camp host is only there 25% of the time, with only two sites, you are not likely to see anyone else. Each campsite is marked, has a fire ring and flat spots for tents. There is plenty of dead aspen to burn. One composting porta potty serves both sites. You will need to bring your own water and leave with your garbage. There is decent cell phone reception (Verizon), but with towers on top of Waterdog Mtn, other providers are likely. Foot traffic to the top of Waterdog, from near the locked gate, is totally tolerated despite the signs. Blessed with the state’s finest top soil, it’s lush in a way most of the west can’t provide. A great place to play with a plant identification app, foragers will be thrilled with the amount of edible plants. Feel free to explore our 35 acres (property boundaries are not marked, the OnX app works great and comes with a free trial, our property is currently labeled as “Providence…”). Responsible firearm target practice is allowed. Wildlife is abundant. You’ll hear coyotes, see the scratches and tracks from mountain lions, scat and tracks from bear, elk, deer and free range cattle. Be careful with your pets.

Miller Flats is a privately own home on 40 acres bordered on 4 sides by Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Powderhorn Wilderness is literally in the back yard. You will find hiking and biking trails plentiful. The Lake Fork of the Gunnison River is just across the street, with public access just two miles away. If you are looking for Jeep or ATV trails, they are less than a mile down the road. We are twenty miles from the spectacular Alpine Loop! And twenty-five miles from Blue Mesa Reservoir. Tent sites include a firepit, and flat spot for tent. Water and electricity are available at the well house, but not the tent sites. Each campsite has a five gallon bucket of water, a camp potty with a removable bag that you dispose. There may be an outdoor shower available for an extra fee. Please do not plan on using the firepit unless we have had recent rain and the camp host approves. The grass around the campsite is a wildfire waiting to happen since we have been in a severe drought since 2021. There is a pile of wood near the cabin driveway that you can use for campfires. Please make sure you have a way to extinguish your fire. The road to the tent sites is BLM. It is not gravel, it is dirt. My car can get to most sites, but the camp host can help haul gear if you don’t want to drive down it. I have had several sedans drive the road, but if you have a low profile vehicle we can tote your supplies. Also, in spring the road may be muddy. Please have a 4 wheel drive. Just send me a message and we will make it work for you. Satellite Wifi is available near the well house, but somewhat spotty. Not great for downloading movies or gaming. Some people get cell service at the top of the hill, but otherwise there is very little in the area. Your tent sites are arranged around the property next to the wilderness and a BLM trail. You will be able to drive there. There is a log home on the center of the property, about a quarter mile or more away from the tent sites. We rent the property and a third of the time we are living on premises. There are gardens, barn cats, dogs and we are hoping to add a horse and a fuzzy cow. There are outdoor living areas between the log home and your sites. If you are interested in more seclusion, please see the Private Valley campsite. It has a ridge between the cabin, other campsites and the well house.
