Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. Lemons and avocados were the primary crops from the 70’s through the 00’s, and are still prominent throughout our 15 acres. Our predecessors then diversified the growing operation by planting a wide range of fruit trees ranging from guavas and passion fruit to peaches and figs. For a decade, hops were grown on 2 acres and were sold to breweries throughout southern California. Anson and I continue to build everything ourselves with the help of our friends and family every now and again. Staying at coyote cabana on nopalito farm was such a great experience. Jacob was very friendly and keeps the land well maintained. The comfort of sleeping on mattresses with warm blankets made our get away so much more comfortable. If you are looking for a casual get away from home and want to enjoy nature, this is the place to stay. The host’s dog Gertie is very friendly and played all day with our dog Loba. Off leash friendly was what stood out to us when booking this location.

Please be mindful that we have neighbors on the South side behind that stick, compost fence.

This place is so great. I want gatekeep but also tell everyone about it. This campsite in particular was very secluded, but still within walking distance of toilet. Granite Tabernacle had two campfires and the space it was in was so big there was so much room for activities. The animals walking around were so cute and the views were beautiful. The bathroom/showers were much cleaner than expected. The shower didn’t get warm but I got used to it eventually. The road leading up to each of the campsites did feel a little scary driving up, but I’m sure most cars can get there. Interacted with just a few people that worked there, but everyone was nice. The loop around the grounds was about 30 minutes walking and was nice to scope out potential next stays, which I definitely will be doing next year!

What a slice of paradise Bernard and Hoa share with the campers. They are friendly, generous, and accommodating. Their property is just a few blocks away from the cute town of Ramona, CA! Marinade on Main is a favorite restaurant nearby. Their property is secluded, secure, and peaceful behind a coded gate. There are three camping sites that are quite large, and several tent sites. The grounds are well maintained. We enjoyed the proximity to downtown San Diego, La Mesa, Santee, and our son’s home nearby. We were able to stay at Thompson’s Palm Farm quite a few days as there is water, electric, and septic. We will return again and again!

Stayed one night in Roadrunner with my dog Poppy. The farm is really beautiful and well-kept. We had a cozy night of sleep and we loved hanging out with Gertie the farm dog. I live 40 mins away but this was the perfect getaway from the city. Lots of bird spotting and a beautiful sunset. The kitchen has everything you need. Will definitely return!

Magical! Great response from host when I had questions before & after booking about what to bring. The VW bus was nice and warm at the end of November. Absolutely adored the goats: super sweet. I loved seeing ALL the animals there. There was not one thing I didn’t love about this campsite: private, lovely views, bathroom within close walking distance, literally all the things. 5/5 stars, 100% would do again.
