Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Please be mindful of the property markers, and respect our neighboring property lines. You are responsible for your own fitness in hiking the inclining trails and staircases. Hiking or walking sticks are highly recommended.
A shared cooking area, has been cleared, a small fire extinguisher provided, burn kit, and carved crater seating. Nearby, a shared pit toilet pallet stall with a small 5 gallon solar shower bag, shower
and pouring bottle-for minor freshening, vanity mirror and 5 gallon water jug, refilled as needed.
Two small sleeping tents are available for rent. Cost is an additional $5 per night, per sleeping tent. If you would like the tent set up and taken down for you, we charge a $5 flat, per tent, set up/breakdown fee. One single person, military style, fold out, sleeping cot, is also available for rent, at $5 per night. There are designated horse trails right outside our gates which will even take you to Galway Downs and California Ranch Company. If you're into golf, you can enjoy Temecula's 7 PGA golf courses or Pechanga Casino which are also within a short driving distance to the farm. If horses or golf isn't your thing, you can visit Temecula Valley wineries which are all ~ 1/2-3.8 miles of the cottage gates. The wineries are not within walking distance of each other, UBER is only too happy to come here and pick you up! If you're not interested in any activities and simply want a "staycation," you can hang out here where you're welcomed to walk around the farm and interact with the animals. Anson and I continue to build everything ourselves with the help of our friends and family every now and again. Our process is that we source as much lumber using the dead Eucalyptus trees we have here on the 36 acre property and we are constantly trying to come up with innovative ways to use recycled and donated materials in the venue. During the pandemic, we turned our venue into a campground so we could open up the venue to people who needed to get out into nature. We are now open for daily camping and private events. Our farm story began in 2018, when on a whim and a prayer we purchased a rundown home and land. After years of acquiring many blisters, animals, plants and weird suntans, we eventually created the home and farm of our dreams. For now, this ambition is in the form of HomeMade Jams, Jellies, Teas, Seasonings and Confections that is procured from our own organically grown gardens and trees along with HandMade fiber creations from our small Alpaca herd. I would like to be able to say that we grew everything that goes into our ingredients, but we are not that good at everything yet! So to keep in the spirit of ethical sustainability along with ensuring a high quality and great tasting product, we purchase ingredients from local organic farmers and shelf products that not only have the USDA Organic seal, but are non-GMO, ethically harvested and in some cases certified Kosher.
One day we hope to meet you and share our story with you by introducing you to the fruit trees my father grew from seed and let you feel the soft fiber of our eclectic herd of misfit Alpacas while you watch the glorious Southern California sunset touch the hot desert horizon we call home.

We closed escrow on the property in October of 2016 and that November I was in the ER. I almost died. Spent my birthday and Thanksgiving in the hospital.Soon after that I quit my job at the CPA firm and started working from home. Still suffering from complications, that summer in June/July I ended up in the ER again. Even closer to death this time. Since then I've turned around my health. Focused on life on the farm. Raising my animals, my garden and creating a unique experience with the campers. Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. A shared cooking area, has been cleared, a small fire extinguisher provided, burn kit, and carved crater seating. Nearby, a shared pit toilet pallet stall with a small 5 gallon solar shower bag, shower
and pouring bottle-for minor freshening, vanity mirror and 5 gallon water jug, refilled as needed.
Two small sleeping tents are available for rent. Cost is an additional $5 per night, per sleeping tent. If you would like the tent set up and taken down for you, we charge a $5 flat, per tent, set up/breakdown fee. I would like to be able to say that we grew everything that goes into our ingredients, but we are not that good at everything yet! So to keep in the spirit of ethical sustainability along with ensuring a high quality and great tasting product, we purchase ingredients from local organic farmers and shelf products that not only have the USDA Organic seal, but are non-GMO, ethically harvested and in some cases certified Kosher.
One day we hope to meet you and share our story with you by introducing you to the fruit trees my father grew from seed and let you feel the soft fiber of our eclectic herd of misfit Alpacas while you watch the glorious Southern California sunset touch the hot desert horizon we call home.

We are a small homestead/farm just outside Temecula Valley Wine Country in California. Primarily we raise our mini dairy goats and host BYO Tent or RV camping.In October of 2016 we began our journey to create our small farm/homestead. With absolutely no experience and coming from a tiny condo in the city we decided to leave that life behind and buy 11 acres in the middle of no where!We weren't sure what to do with 11 acres. We don't come from a farming family but we had the drive to learn. With the help of YouTube, books, blogs, vlogs and friendly neighbors we began to teach ourselves how to run a small farm, inching into the lifestyle a little at a time.We started off with 15 chickens, many failed gardens and then fell in love with Nigerian Dwarf Goats!We found Hipcamp over a year later and in April 2018 opened up our home to strangers wanting to camp on private property.Since we are in the middle of Temecula Wine Country we figure that our farm is the perfect family friendly environment to relax in nature but still be close to some great attractions. Play with baby goats, chickens and rabbits. Explore the property and star gaze at night without light pollution from the city!This was an empty lot that was first purchased in 2014. We are the second owners of the property and want to be as self sustaining as possible. We are on a well and have converted to solar power. We will be building up the camp sites as well, gradually adding more amenities as we go to create a unique experience for our guests.More about me:I had a great and successful career at a very large CPA firm in San Diego but with city living comes pressure and stress. Due to deadlines and even more stress created by the partners of the firm, I ignored what my body was telling me. I put off going to the doctor for months telling myself I didn't have time and, after this next deadline I'll get a check up.I knew that I needed to change my lifestyle but I wasn't doing it fast enough. We closed escrow on the property in October of 2016 and that November I was in the ER. I almost died. Spent my birthday and Thanksgiving in the hospital.Soon after that I quit my job at the CPA firm and started working from home. Still suffering from complications, that summer in June/July I ended up in the ER again. Even closer to death this time. Since then I've turned around my health. Focused on life on the farm. Raising my animals, my garden and creating a unique experience with the campers. I enjoy sharing this life and my home with like-minded people who want to escape the city and feel a little closer to nature.

Almost 20 acres of peacefulness! Come enjoy the starry night skies and the sound of nature. The moon lights up the land with such an amazing brightness! The crow of the roosters will wake you up in the calm of the morning, and the slight breeze is so refreshing. You might even get sneak peak of the hot air ballons taking off from the nearby wineries.
All our spots are drying camping ONLY. Picnic tables are available for use as well as a few firepits (during Fall/Winter season only). BBQ grills are allowed. Trash is to be packed out as it was packed in, we do offer a dumpster for your rubbish in front of the 2nd entrance, remember wildlife lives on the property and their safety is very important so we do request not to feed any animals or leave food out.
We are so proud of our lil ranch and want all to experience a peaceful night/weekend/week away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday life. We also offer an animal experience, for an additional fee, if desired.

Great stay at Skyline Mountain! The host was super friendly, communicative, and flexible, which made everything easy from start to finish.
The space was perfect for our group of 11 — tons of room to spread out, plenty of parking, and very well set up. Clean porta-potty, running water, string lights, tables, benches, and a bar platform were all ready when we arrived. The amphitheater stage was a highlight and a great place to hang out and enjoy the views.
Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it for group camping.

Camping here was great! Seeing the goats and other animals roaming around was a sweet surprise. The VW bus we camped out in was comfortable and clean. Having restrooms and a shower nearby made it even better. Would recommend

Had a wonderful time at Hilltop Hideout. Good space, lots of privacy, great views. A highlight was the goat herd with Pedro the Alpaca.
The table at the site was a 4-top rather than a traditional picnic table. There was also a little loveseat by the fire pit which was nice. The bathrooms with flushing toilets were close enough (~3 minute walk). The camp store was well-stocked!

Peaceful rock site was perfect for our group of 8. We got cloudy skies unfortunately and we'd love to come back again to see sunset and stars! We enjoyed seeing the goats and the alpaca. Bathroom was clean however the door didn't close / stay shut. Fire pit grills were a little unkempt (rusty/dirty).

Everyone there is so nice, this time we didn't really stay in the Hipcamp spot because of the rain. We just stayed in the free spot, but happy to have a nice safe pretty place to park for the night.
I wish we could've enjoyed it more, but we had to leave the next morning for San Diego. We will see you again next time smiley face.

This is a great place to stay! It's very serene and quiet, with beautiful views from the property. I highly recommend walking up to the ridge for the best views. It was fun to see the horses, goats, and ducks, and the property is great to explore and the perfect peaceful place to stay!

Second visit to this year at this campground and I have to say it’s absolutely one of the best private campgrounds in the San Diego area. Stunning views from nearly every location. With hot showers and clean restrooms (flushable toilets !!), a on site store with most camping needs, what more could a camper need. It honestly feels like stepping into a movie, from the fee range goats (and llama) that share the space, to the sunrises above the clouds that appear endless I cannot recommend this place enough. And not to mention the extremely accesible prices for tent/rv camping. Overall 11/10 so awesome will be returning frequently!!!

We enjoyed our evening staying at the Rock Bottom campsite at split splitrock. The baby goats were so cute and it was nice to be able to spend some time with all of the animals. Great views from the observation deck and a clear sky full of stars
