The hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is fairly steep and can be difficult for some people, especially in warm weather, so everyone’s physical fitness needs to be considered when deciding to hike to the hot springs with pets, children, elderly people, or out-of-shape/over-weight people in your group. Even though Deep Creek has never had any known cases of amoeba outbreaks, be advised that the warm waters around hot springs can carry a sometimes fatal amoeba.
*Although children are permitted at most sites on the property (children are not permitted at the cabin or spring pool sites), we do not recommend bringing them due to occasional nudity that may be seen in the area and the degree of difficulty for the hike. Tent was warm and bed was comfy. Would recommend bringing your own linen. Hot showers and flushable toilets were nice. Campsites have everything you need. Juniper flats does allow nudity so don’t come if you think people won’t be doing it… they will be. It was clean and well taken care of, staff was available when needed

Angel's Nest is a gem - especially at the price! It's a beautiful mountain cabin that has family entertainment in mind. We played shuffleboard all afternoon and switched it up with the arcade machine and basketball; the kids had a blast! Really lovely kitchen, bedrooms and living areas as well! Great for a family mountain getaway. Only warning is: there are lots of stairs and a very steep driveway. Keep that in mind when if that's an issue for you. Martin was also very responsive and hospitable! We will definitely be back!

Great place, peaceful, beautiful, well maintained, and clean none toxic cookware! Haha I know that’s a funny thing to be excited about but as a cook I love stainless steel and all were stainless steel, also master bed and pillows very comfortable, Tempur-Pedic I believe. Lots of stairs, so just be aware we brought our elder dog and was a little tricky for him to navigate; but other than that, host replied quickly to all questions and highly recommended!

the Glamping option had literally everything we needed, even portable solar lights that we were able to use while walking after dark. it was nice returning to a lit camp site as well. The Hot springs themselves were amazing, and right next a colder swim spot to cool off. Jess gave such clear directions for us, even though I had watched YouTube videos before, it was easy to visualize when she pointed out landmarks. We camped on a weekend and were lucky to get to enjoy the rec room tent at night.

Great place to stay and so close to Lake Gregory! My family and I walked there and the scenery as we walked was amazing. We enjoyed board games at night as well as the TV. Upstairs had an amazing studio styled home with a wonderful array of vinyls to listen to! The Sky Bear Cabin was also very cozy, there was a loft where you can bask in the sun.

This home is beautiful, full of light, and well-appointed. The steep stairs and driveway are no joke, so I wouldn’t recommend it for very young children. The bunk beds and third floor game room were huge hits. The jack-and-jill bathroom connecting the main bedroom with the kids room provided both privacy and peace of mind. The main bed is also amongst the most comfortable I’ve slept on.

Great place! The game room was an added bonus. You can hours of fun there alone, and the video game has other 80s hits besides Joust. We were planning on going to Arrowhead during our stay but spent all our time in Crestline and Lake Gregory, which is just a few minutes away. Thanks for a fun stay!

The village of Green Valley Lake is sleepy and cute, especially mid-week. This cabin is a great place to go and get a reset from the noise and bustle of city life. We loved playing board games, paddling on the lake, grilling on the balcony and looking at the stars. The cabin is clean and comfy, with nice beds, linen, and towels. Would love to return!

Our group of 6 people enjoyed staying at the Wandering Pines house! The place was comfortable, with really nice views and great mattresses. The younger of us enjoyed the game room. We had some nice meals and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets on the deck. We visited Big Bear Lake and Lake Gregory while we were in the area. It was a really nice family get away!

Where to go
California Citrus State Historic Park
Ax the apples and sip some citrus at California Citrus State Historic Park about an hour north of Apple Valley. Despite no camping directly in the park, there are plenty of options in the surrounding areas. Campers won’t need to go far before finding cabin rentals, tent sites, full RV hookups, and mountain retreats. Open year-round, this gracious grove provides the perfect place to kick back, relax, and enjoy some juice. Greeted by an old-fashioned juice stand, visitors can book guided tasting tours of the orchards, explore exhibits in the museum, or test their treasure-hunting skills with some geocaching.
Holcomb Valley
Head about an hour southeast to Holcomb Valley, and discover a piece of the past existing in the present. Once one of the richest gold-mining areas, travelers now trek here for camping, hiking, rock climbing, and water sports. Work your way up to Holcomb Crossing Group Camping with an elevation of 5,292 feet, marvel at the mountainous campsites, or tuck away into the trees. As an added bonus, explore some spooky sites in the nearby ghost town of Belleville.
Mojave Narrows Regional Park
Grab some fishing rods, and saddle up the horses as you head to Mojave Narrows Regional Park. With surrounding lakes and an on-site splash pad, this campground is a great way to cool things down in the desert sun. Tent sites on the shoreline of Horseshoe Lake, access to fully-equipped RV spots, or group Equestrian-style adventures let campers take to nature in whatever floats their boat—literally! Horseshoe Lake and Pelican Lake make this the perfect park for canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
When to go
Camping near Apple Valley in April, May, September, and October is best, as these shoulder season months offer the beginning and end of warmer weather with a chance of seeing the springtime desert bloom in April and May. The Apple Valley climate is welcoming year-round, and draws campers in for every season to rest, recharge, and breathe in the open air.
