Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Secluded in the alder woods on the bank of the river, this little hand-built rustic cabin is surrounded by a natural wonderland. Sitting beside the river or kayaking on it, you can watch families of otters, ducks, and geese. Egrets often roost in the trees across the river. Seals also frequent this tidal stretch of the river and foxes make their dens in these woods. Otters Den is a real escape--it is off the grid and out of cell phone range (cell service is available 1 mile away). Along with beautiful views of the trees and river from large south windows, the studio cabin has a queen bed, a glass front propane heater, a cozy kitchen with a full-sized propane fridge, a propane cooktop, and a large sink. Propane and LED lights illuminate the interior. Outside is an enclosed hot shower, a redwood privy, a Weber BBQ, an outdoor table, and chairs around the large fire pit. Wood for the fire pit is available at most stores and from vendors along the highway. Bring your own charcoal for the BBQ Perfect for those seeking a retreat from the hubbub of city life and an immersion in nature, Otters’ Den is still only 20 minutes from Fort Bragg with its galleries, fine dining opportunities, Farmers’ Market, many festivals, great shopping, and other activities. It is 5 minutes from miles of beach and sand dunes. Otters’ Den is part of a large property with other residences. The use of kayaks is included. A two-night minimum is encouraged. No dogs please-you can play with ours. Recent refurbishing will make your stay even more enjoyable and is reflected in our rates. This is most space is most suitable for 2 adults, no children. Guests have access to kayaks, the river. The cabin is surrounded by a large open area. The county road along the wetland is a great walk.

This cabin was a welcome retreat from my wife and I's busy lives as music teachers. We had ample space and privacy to unplug and relax. The closeness to nature may make you think there's little to no creature comforts, but that'd be a false assumption. Hot showers, heating, wifi, and all the necessities for cooking and coffee We could not be more happy with our stay, and eagerly await our next opportunity to return!

I loved it. The land and cabin felt cared for and welcoming. Our stay was in November so pretty cold but very cozy and worth it. We appreciated that the kitchen as well stocked with everything we needed. The outdoor tub was just the best thing ever and the bed inside was like a cloud. Would definitely stay again!

The Cozy Cabin is tiny and adorable - one of those rare properties that is actually exactly as described in its listing. We brought our dog and had a lovely stay. The bed is very comfortable, the cabin is well insulated, well spaced from other dwellings and campsites, the land around it is beautiful, and there are lots of stars to see on a clear night. Only noteworthy flaw was upon arrival: it was pretty tough to find our way in the dark. Arrive in the daylight if possible until they add clearer night-reflective signage and/or a detailed campsite map!

Beautiful place. The room was nice. The bed was comfy. The bathrooms were well maintained. The place had an awesome view of the night sky. Defiantly will be planning a future stay there. Mendocino is like 10 minutes away and fort brag is about 20. There’s not even a real need to bring food so long as u wanna go buy food everyday.

I had a lovely, cozy stay at Bon's cabin. The location is perfect - 10 mins from Elk, 20 mins to Mendocino village, 25 mins to Philo - and the drive is stunning. The cabin itself is incredibly private and cozy with all the amenities, from a full kitchen, to an equipped bathroom, to comfy beds. Then there's the outdoor tub (!!!), wood-fired sauna, and pizza oven. Though Bon has provided space heaters, one of my favorite parts of my stay was keeping the cabin nice and warm with the wood stove. Truly a perfect fall getaway, I can't wait to come back!

The Tower Cabin at OZ Farm was exactly what I was looking for- Spending time in nature and a couple comfort steps above tent camping. The tower cabin is rustic and minimal, but everything you need and more compared to tent camping. I had perfect weather- it didn't get cold enough to use the wood burning stove, but I liked that I had it as an option. The communal kitchen was lovely and a light filled, welcoming cozy spot to hangout. The farm is beautiful and charming. I look forward to coming back.

The owners of Heartwood have created an amazingly beautiful, comfortable and accessible campground. Their love of the land, care, artistry and craftsmanship are evident in every detail. The tent cabins are cozy and a wonderful way to enjoy a camping experience with greater ease and comfort. The surrounding forest is enchanting. Taking an outdoor showers inside of an old redwood trunk was the highlight of our stay… a sublime experience! We plan to return, and are so glad we discovered Heartwood.

Heartwood is truly a sanctuary. Away from public noise, the beautiful and calm nature vibe there is very restorative. Kamoor is a gem as well and adds a heartfelt personal touch to beauty already there. And its dog friendly, which is a bonus.

Cabin 2 has a Dutch door and recycled redwood paneling on one exterior wall.

This funky little cabin in the forest was just what I needed. I spent most of my time lounging on the outside bed, and soaking in the tub. The Huckleberries are abundant, and the beach is a short drive 10-15 minutes. What a perfect combination of nature and modern convenience. Highly recommend!
