There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Remember that hunting is permitted if you have a valid hunting license, on the adjacent mile-wide parcel of State Trust land sprawling out to the west of the property. If the weather is dry, just about any kind of car, truck or trailer can make it down the 10-miles of dirt road to get to the property. If rain is on the calendar, you're going to need 4-wheel-drive and clearance. The dirt roads develop deep mud patches that can mire most cars or trailers. There will also be snow in the wintertime - so plan accordingly for mud, ice, and rough roads. But most of the year is easy as long as it's dry!

The stars and night sky out here are amazing and completely worth the trip. **Please use the coordinates. The property is 40 minutes north of Williams. If your GPS takes you into Williams that is the wrong location. IMPORTANT NOTE: The last one mile to the location is a bumpy dirt road. Imagine the worst road you’ve been on - this is slightly better and if this is the worst you’ve been on .. well then live a little. In the past, some people complained about the dirt road not being in good shape due to rains. Please know that we are not responsible for or even aware of the road conditions to the property. Unfortunately, the county has done no maintenance since the early 1990s and has no plans to. The quotes we have received to fix just the worst parts have been between $35,000 and $50,000. Lastly, check the signs on the way in the area about fire danger and whether you are able to have a campfire or not. If you are allowed, please make sure to fully extinguish it. Great location near the Grand Canyon! Just an open piece of land for boondocking - there may be other campers present during your stay. The stars and night sky out here are amazing and completely worth the trip. **Please use the coordinates. The property is 40 minutes north of Williams. If your GPS takes you into Williams that is the wrong location. IMPORTANT NOTE: The last one mile to the location is a bumpy dirt road. Imagine the worst road you’ve been on - this is slightly better and if this is the worst you’ve been on .. well then live a little. In the past, some people complained about the dirt road not being in good shape due to rains. Please know that we are not responsible for or even aware of the road conditions to the property. Unfortunately, the county has done no maintenance since the early 1990s and has no plans to. The quotes we have received to fix just the worst parts have been between $35,000 and $50,000. Lastly, check the signs on the way in the area about fire danger and whether you are able to have a campfire or not. If you are allowed, please make sure to fully extinguish it. We are working on bringing services and upgrades to the property. All money being earned will go towards this effort.

Laura was so friendly and very kind. We didn’t have enough time to walk down to the creek but we’re definitely planning on going back and check it out.

I had an amazing time at this campsite! It’s nestled in the woods, surrounded by shady trees, and has plenty of space to set up your tent. I stayed at site 7, which was pretty flat and had soft, easy-to-sink ground for my tent stakes. The sounds from the surrounding area were incredible - I heard a rooster, cows, owls, and a donkey. It felt super secluded, and if you venture into the woods, there’s a pond that’s perfect for taking photos. I made a delicious dinner and enjoyed sitting around the campfire. In the morning, I was greeted by a friendly Hipcamp doggy who hung around for a bit. Overall, it was a lovely place, and the town nearby is close by with restaurants and shops.

Laura was super sweet! There were very clear instructions on how to get in! The bathroom was super clean it had a flushing toilet and running water. She also had farm animals that were so friendly. Her dogs are the absolute cutest and super friendly! The campsite was so nice and very spacious. It had a table and fire pit with logs to sit on! The walk to the creek was super pretty and well maintained! We really enjoyed staying here!

We were very comfortable at site 7. There is tons of space set up tents. We were able to fit 4 tents and 1 large EZ up style canopy with plenty of room to spare. The ground is also not super hard and Rocky, it is relatively easy to hammer in and remove tent stakes. There is signage to direct you to your proper campsite. My friend who came in a Kia Spectra was able to get onto the property with no problems. The porta-johns were clean. Fellow campers were quiet and courteous. It was honestly almost like we didn't even have neighbors, which was nice. The camp host's dog Buddy did absolutely make a special appearance in the morning. The dog was super friendly and loving. Overall this was quite a pleasant experience and I would be happy to camp with this host again.
