Meadview Arizona was founded in 1826 by Jedediah Smith on his Southwest Expedition in search for Beaver! Staying a small remote and quiet town it can feel like it would have in the Wild West.
We obtained our campground from a couple that owned it for 20 years but just weren't able to do to it what they had originally planned.. So it was essentially a blank canvas for us to create!! We are the closest town to the Grand Canyon SKYWALK, which is just 40 minutes from us. Meadview, the town we are located, is the only place to obtain Free Entree to the Lake Mead Recreational Center. Our Campground just 10 miles from Lake Mead and 17 Miles from the Colorado River. We have outstanding Lookouts, Top notch Stargazing, Gold Prospecting, Bird Watching, Fishing, Off Roading etc.
Some of the Best Desert Off-Roading through trails within the Joshua Tree National Forest, Please note you must bring your own OHV, horse, etc, there is currently no rentals available. We do have Kayaks to rent upon arrival. There is a hidden water fall in the Grapevine Wash that you can get to with a 4 wheel vehicle and you hike in about 15 minutes in. Stunning views and gorgeous natural spring and waterfall.
We are 45 minutes off the 93 Freeway
Free WIFI provided at the office!.. The town doesn't always have a powerful signal, please keep that in mind in your travels. However, if you have Verizon, it gets GREAT service!
There are three restaurants in town, all just one mile from site... The Boathouse, Anchor Smokehouse and Fishermans Landing Bar. We have a Bakery called Rosemary and Thyme that serves Delicious foods & Pastries and makes great coffees. There is also a Gas n Grub that has ice, propane etc... 5 miles away is a Family Dollar store which we lovingly call the "Mall of Meadview"

Purchased this land for my father who loved living on his own in stark conditions. The property literally came with a shack on it. He loved shifting for gold with one of the neighbors in the desert up the road. He has since passed and the shack was torn down due to normal wear making it unstable.Me and my wife plan to put a home on it in the future, but felt it would be nice to allow adventurous types to stay on the property for the cheap.Learn more about this land:(Directions at bottom of description)The property is up on a hill surrounded on 2 sides (W/N) by BLM land with an overlook of Lake Mead. The property once had a shack on it, which is now gone - some remnants remain. But, there are flat drive areas in which to park (RV ok) and/or tent camp. Property is a little rough, but the views are gorgeous! From the property you can see Lake Mead, the west wall of the Grand Canyon, and an overlook of the town of Meadview. There are other residents in the area, but are far away, but visible (it is a desert). But, the property is absolutely quiet and peaceful.There is no electric, water, or facilities - so, it is primitive (or self-contained) camping. There is a fire-ring, but you must bring your own wood. There is some limited shopping and restaurants in town (Meadview or Dolan Springs) and on the main road (Pierce Ferry). We plan to build on the property in the future, but wish to share it with others until then. Located off I-40 ( old Route 66 ) in Holbrook, Arizona. No power, toilet, water, or sewage. The peaks are composed mainly of volcanic tuff, and the deep erosion of the rocks has created distinct, sharp summits. The rugged Mojave Desert is home to mountain lions, bighorn sheep, golden eagles, coyotes, and bobcats.
Castle Mountains National Monument is always open, but the best times to come are spring and fall. March and April are peak times. The spring rains turn the desert into a carpet of vivid, vibrant wildflowers. Summers are very hot, with daytime temps in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

No Roads actually make it to my property, The only way to get there is through the brush following game trails for just under half a mile. You should have downloaded good maps for offline use, and have a GPS that works. The area is a gorgeous valley surrounded by mountains, with big granite boulders everywhere and rarely any people. It is about 5 miles south of the grand canyon western ranch up into the mountains. the road in crosses state lands and ranch lands, game and fish have a sign in sheet at the beginning of iron springs canyon road. Please leave gates as you found them. Once there you can pretty much park and camp anywhere but the last mile of road is serious 4x4.

Located off I-40 ( old Route 66 ) in Holbrook, Arizona. No power, toilet, water, or sewage. You will need to drive ~1 mile or so off road to get to the provided coordinates.Just 49 miles away you have Castle Mountains National Park. You'll need a high-clearance, 4WD vehicle to get into this extremely remote national monument in the eastern Mojave Desert. Accessible only by dirt roads, Castle Mountains is surrounded on three sides by the Mojave National Preserve. It's the northernmost of the desert region's three new national monuments designated by the President in 2016.
This park in northeastern San Bernardino County protects 20,920 acres, located between the interstates I−15 and I−40. There are no facilities, developed campgrounds, or established trails within the monument. Backcountry camping is allowed.
Castle Peaks is one of the stars here—a cluster of imposing spires that climb skyward. The peaks are composed mainly of volcanic tuff, and the deep erosion of the rocks has created distinct, sharp summits. You're also rewarded for your efforts to get here by lush grasslands, Joshua tree forests, mountain vistas, and abundant wildlife. The rugged Mojave Desert is home to mountain lions, bighorn sheep, golden eagles, coyotes, and bobcats.
Castle Mountains National Monument is always open, but the best times to come are spring and fall. March and April are peak times. The spring rains turn the desert into a carpet of vivid, vibrant wildflowers. Summers are very hot, with daytime temps in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

A beautiful slice of Mojave desert, a short detour off the road to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

13 miles to Lake Mead via Hualapai Wash Rd or Greg's Hideout Rd.

No Roads actually make it to my property, The only way to get there is through the brush following game trails for just under half a mile. You should have downloaded good maps for offline use, and have a GPS that works. The area is a gorgeous valley surrounded by mountains, with big granite boulders everywhere and rarely any people. It is about 5 miles south of the grand canyon western ranch up into the mountains. the road in crosses state lands and ranch lands, game and fish have a sign in sheet at the beginning of iron springs canyon road. Please leave gates as you found them. Once there you can pretty much park and camp anywhere but the last mile of road is serious 4x4.

The views are beautiful. There is a common area where campers can chill with each other and get info on local beauty. The people managing the grounds are very easy to get along with. I would highly recommend stopping here if you can. The bathrooms and shower

Happy Trails is a beautiful place with. Great view of the canyon. The people that maintain the place are very cool, it’s a great little community. There is a common area to meet up with other travelers, which was a great opportunity to learn where to see sites that are not so ‘touristy’. I highly recommend. Say hi to Dave for me. 🙂

What a hidden gem of a spot to camp with family! If you’re looking for a place to set up camp near the Skywalk at Grand Canyon definitely check out Happy Trails. Keep an eye on the weather, the roads can get a bit mushy on your way in and out. I would definitely stay here again :)

I read a bad review saying it was hard to find - this is completely false. The place was very easy to find from both Google maps and his instructions. Nice, peaceful setting with Joshua trees all around and windmills in the distance - they look close but they weren't close enough for us to hear them. The host was friendly, as was his dog, and he even gave us some fresh eggs from his chickens. We enjoyed the stay and found it well worth it.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay here. I wish we could’ve stayed longer but we were making a cross country move and didn’t have the time. It’s off the beaten path but everything you could want is already there. Just being food/drink, and your personal items. It was perfectly silent most of the time, almost like you had earplugs in. And all the stars…🤩. My dog loved it too.
The unpaved road is a little bumpy but our Jaguar sedan made it just fine. Just take your time.
