Otter limits was peaceful and the location was perfect. We had a small group with two travel trailers (15 ft and 19 ft) that fit perfectly in the space. Walking to the river access point was easy and we had great weather.

Ash Creek is a unicorn for remote camping on the edge of the Tonto National Forest. Andrew and his son offered us a tour of the canyon and we got to see all the views and learn about the history of the mining operations. The campsite we chose was flat and clean and the clearing was surrounded but trees and steep cliffs. With no light pollution, the night sky looked amazing and the sound of the creek created a nice ambience. We brought our own firewood but there were plenty of loose branches if you prefer to forage. I wish we had booked for more time here, because there is a lot to see and do, including hikes and mine exploration. I had no issues driving around in my Subaru Outback but would recommend reaching out about road conditions beforehand since some of the paths can be narrow or washed out. I don’t get to camp often but hope to be a repeat customer at Ash Canyon.

We had the BEST time camping at Ash Creek Canyon. It’s truly hard for me to find words or sum up our trip in a short paragraph. To put it simply, it feels like we only saw the tip of the iceberg as far as exploration goes in Chrysotile. We cannot wait to go back and learn and explore some more. Our stay was magical. Andy was a top-notch host, super accommodating with speedy correspondence, and truly just a pleasure to be around. His enthusiasm, love and awe for this land shined bright. He showed us around all of the land reachable via side-by-side and gave us a grand tour on the history of the abandoned mining town. There is so much to uncover there. Not only was the history fascinating, but the scenery was BEAUTIFUL… truly enchanting. We camped at site #2, Waterfall Pasture. We were perfectly secluded from other campers and felt like we had the whole area to ourselves.. which was great as we were camping with our two young daughters and three dogs (a rather loud bunch). We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend getaway, and cannot wait to come back. THANK YOU ANDY!

Richard's property is eclectic and fun to wander. He met Mr a the gate and I was immediately introduced to two wonderful livestock dogs. Once we met, they were my friends and guardians as I wandered the property. Richard is the kindest man and shared lots of stories. The property is full of fun art from past burning man ventures. I think this guy could build anything you could imagine. There are goats, ducks, and a green house where he grows good own vegetables. He and a friend are planning on growling micro greens in a contraption they built. This spot was a lot of fun and the perfect place to spend time and relax.
If you are not into being in a chill atmosphere, animals and some duck poop, them stay clear. But if you want to experience a fun piece of property then this is the place. Make sure you get to know Richard and ask for a tour. You won't regret the experience.

The Otterlimits was the perfect spot for us to regroup on our road trip. The mesquite grove lends to the peaceful atmosphere. The property itself, butts up to the National Forest, and is a short walk to the Verde River, and a floaters take out. On down the road is an amazing view of the river and rock formations, with a view of cliff dwellings and picnic tables. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here!

This is a special site nestled in a mesquite grove, and within walking distance of the Verde River. It butts up to National Forest lands, and has a scenic view down the road of cliff dwellings.
It is truly a space to relax and unwind with a sense of timelessness.

Loved this secluded canyon! Met Andrew by the highway, which was already way out there, then followed him on his quad in my 21' class-B van for 3 or 4 miles to campsite #2. Dislodged my low hanging generator on the rough road, but I knew it was a risk. Well worth it. This property had absolutely no noise or light pollution. It was an old mining town with several old mines still open to explore. I had an unforgettable few days secluded on this property. Zero cellular coverage with Verizon and Wi-Fi wasn't on while I was there. I thoroughly enjoyed my unplugged time. I will definitely be returning.

Very close to Verde Adventures Kayaker Pick-Up spot for Kayakers (walking distance), and not too far from Beasley Flats, (a few of minutes by car.)
Love the private property access to the river for OTTERLIMITS users only. (walking distance). Would recommend a 4WD if not walking to this part, it was rutty and muddy. You don't want to get stuck!
OTTERLIMITS had a big fire pit, big opening in the trees for Astronomy viewing, took my spotting scope, it was nice. Also used for birding, saw many gaggles of geese in formation flying south for the winter. There was plenty of kindling around to start a fire. Gene was a gracious host, offered some fire wood if we needed it. Loved the distant sounds of cows and coyotes in the background, and fall leaves in some areas. I highly recommend this spot. But don't go so late in the season like we did (Late October), unless properly prepared.
We did okay, but kept an eye on the forecast the entire month before leaving. We prepared for 47 degree weather as the low, but it got down to 34 degrees. Much lower than predicted. Think it had to do with being so close to the water, as opposed to the town of CAMP VERDE, and the fact that the recent monsoons still left many areas (especially by the river) extremely wet and muddy. We couldn't even get close to the river without walking thru about 30 feet of mud. Almost slipped about a dozen times. Would highly recommend going before the monsoons or weeks after to let it dry out.

Our time at Richards land was a great experience. The art around the property was really cool to look at, the tent sites were all flat and spaced out well, and we even got to use his fire pit to have a bonfire. There were ducks, a turkey, the friendly yard dog, and even goats so it felt like a little farm experience. The host was very accommodating with everything we needed and I felt comfortable bringing my two children there. As we left, he even showed us around his greenhouse and sent us in our way with peppers, basil, green onion, and carrots. We really enjoyed our one night here.

We loved the area and the campsite! Falling asleep to the sound of the creek next to us and waking up to the sun rising over the mountains made us wish we had booked a longer trip. Peaceful, private, and stunning. We came in after dark and Andrew met us at the gate, showed us to the site, and was available for anything we needed. 10/10 no notes. Will book again.

We had such a wonderful stay! The host was incredibly friendly and responded quickly to any questions, which made everything great. The campsite itself was absolutely beautiful! peaceful and surrounded by nature. Lots of trinkets and tools for use. A lot of wildlife in the area. Many coyotes at night but did not bother us or come that close. The site feels secluded but also conveniently close to town, so we had the best of both worlds. We also really appreciated the generous amount of firewood provided, which made our evenings around the fire even better!
The road to the campsite is a little rough but could be cause of the rain. I highly recommend this spot. Lots of good hiking around the area like Tonto national park. Thanks Paul!

We absolutely loved our stay here! We were looking for somewhere beautiful and private to celebrate our anniversary and this exceeded our expectations. The tour at the start was so informative and we were able to find and explore all the places Andrew talked about. We spent quite a bit of time in Victory mine, found the underground waterfall, and hiked back to the swimming hole. He described the swimming hole as 'fairytale', and it truly was. We camped on the most beautiful site with amazing views of the canyon and towering bluffs. It was full moon and the site of that moon rising over the bluffs was breathtaking. This is truly one of the most beautiful, untouched places we have ever been and we hope to be back again someday.

This was a last-minute booking, and we’re so glad we chose Andrew’s place. He is a fantastic host who takes great pride in his land, his guests, and the history of what was once a thriving old mining town. Chrysotile is a stunning area with rich history, and our experience exceeded all expectations. We stayed at Site #1, which felt perfectly secluded for us. During our stay, we encountered an incredible variety of wildlife, including birds, deer, a skunk, and even a golden eagle.
A highlight of the trip was a tour of one of the mines led by Chad, Andrew's caretaker—it was truly special. Our campsite was next to a running creek, where we spent most of our time relaxing, and we ended our days by driving to a plateau to witness breathtaking sunsets. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to any of the waterfalls on the property, but there’s always next time.
Andrew is putting so much effort into maintaining and sharing the beauty of this special place, and it shows. Just remember to pack light and take responsibility for packing out your waste to help preserve the canyon. If you’re looking for peace, solitude, and the chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle, this is the perfect spot. Huge thanks to Andrew and Chad for being such wonderful hosts!

Ash Creek Canyon is a true hidden gem! As you dive into the rugged terrain of the canyon, a whole other world opens up. You can enjoy the tranquility of your own campsite or explore the old mine town that is spread out through the canyon.
A big shout-out goes to Chad. He’s such a genuine and thoughtful guy, who took us on a little tour, while explaining the history of the different buildings and showing us the true beauty of the canyon.
We’ll definitely be back!
