Welcome to CAMP 222, a private campground nestled on approximately 1 acre of land adjacent to Lewis Smith Lake in Cullman, AL. Experience the tranquility of lake life as you enjoy boating adventures accessed via our private boat ramp. During the months of December - March, guests must either have a camper with a restroom or bring their own camp toilets. Conveniently situated just off Cullman County Road 222, our campsite is within a quarter mile of two gas stations, two independently owned stores offering short-order food options, and a Dollar General. While there may be some road noise from County Road 222, especially during daytime hours, it typically tapers off in the evening and nighttime. Enjoy stunning views of the 4th of July fireworks from Smith Lake Park, as our property provides a prime vantage point. Lewis Smith Lake, managed by Alabama Power, spans 21,000 acres and is the deepest lake in Alabama at 264 ft. The water level varies throughout the year, usually reaching full-pool from April to July before gradually decreasing for the autumn and winter seasons. Please note the rocky shore near the sun deck, which is why jumping or diving from the sun deck is prohibited. The nearby City of Cullman, located approximately 10 miles away, offers abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Additionally, the city hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the Rock The South Music Festival.

This area was called Boot's Bottoms growing up and the name stuck. There is a rock wall close to the campsite that was a old grist mill site. Plenty of wildlife, bird watching, wildflowers and creek walking. Some old ATV trails for hiking as well. Very remote and quite! Learn more about this land: Setup camp on the banks of Dorsey creek in Bug Tussle. Wooded area with shade in the warm season. Flat ground for tents or plenty of trees for hammocks. Easy access for vehicles directly to the campsite. Fire ring with grill grates present for cowboy cooking. Peaceful with plenty of opportunity to see wildlife. Primitive toilet present. Rock dam in creek is great to entertain kids, old grist mill site couple hundred yards downstream. Logging and ATV present for hiking and wildlife viewing. Deeper sections in creek present for cooling off in warm weather.

Beautiful place, everything is exactly as described. The road is a little noisy but I didn’t mind. Where else do you get a camper spot on the water, with private boat launch, dock, fire pit etc. For the information of future campers, there is a free rv dump station at the Interstate rest area 7 miles away. We stopped on the way out to flush the tanks.

I really enjoyed this campsite. The drive in was very straightforward (especially if you watch the YouTube video). The creek was low since we haven't had any rain lately. It was extremely private- some occasional far off car noise and dogs barking but otherwise a wonderful spot in the woods. Plenty of room for multiple tents or vehicles. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I loved camping on the Bate's Farm. Wayne was a great host. The facility had a great balance of rustic nature and modern amenities. The land was peaceful and natural. Each site was private and included a fire pit, picnic table, and trash bin. Free showers, laundry, and a playground were also available.

Bates Farm is a beautiful spot. The caring and kind hosts maintain a well-kept space to enjoy tranquil nature. Our stay was brief and simple. The Endor site was private and easy to access. The restrooms & showers on site were clean and comfortable. The archery range looked great, though we did not utilize it. They have a delightful selection of family-friendly activities available.

Bates Farm is a 10/10 experience for camping. The grounds are gorgeous and Mary and Wayne were lovely. Hands down, best camping shower I’ve ever had. We enjoyed the flower trail, fire pit and watching the stars at night. Highly recommend this place!

The gentleman that met us was very nice and explained how to use everything. We loved the fact that everything was so clean and we wanted for nothing including wood for the campfire. The shower was really neat and hot water was really appreciated. Only drawback was the dogs across the lake barked non stop from 5-9 PM. No fault of owner of campground so don't hold that against them. Just be aware that you will have to deal with that. The only other small problem for me was getting up the little rise out of the port-a-potty/shower area. If you are not a senior, it will not be a problem for you. I would just have appreciated a couple of rock steps or something there. All in all, we loved our time there and if ever back in this area would definitely try to book it again.

Weekend Trip to Bates Farm

The ride to our camp site was amazingly beautiful down a trail. Once we got to our campsite it was beautiful open grassy area woodsy trails open nature pluse stargazing. Each campsite sets far back from each other for more privacy. This is true nature camping experience we loved it. Our host was very helpful and we will certainly come back. It's going to be gorgeous when the leaves start changing.

Weekend Trip to Bates Farm

Great country location. Easy set-up. Hosts have thought of nearly everything to make your stay a little more enjoyable. The bathhouse was clean and comfortable, the site included a nice picnic area and fire pit, and there were even 'surprise' amenities like a free laundry area. Loved walking our dog around the grounds. Very beautifully laid out. It's obvious they've put a lot of thought into this space.

Weekend Trip to Bates Farm

I loved camping here at Bates Farm! It was a very peaceful and spacious primitive site where you can really feel more immersed in nature. Mary and her husband were very hospitable and made sure to alert us whenever archers were on the range. I will definitely love to come back to participate in the 3D archery here in the future. Highly recommended, it was a cool experience.
