Your host Val has walked away from her life as a tenured graphic design professor for a passion that is probably her true calling. Inspired by travels and a youth immersed in girls scouts, I created this retreat center and camp for the opportunity to relish in nature, put away the phone and get back to craft, conversation, and the basics of life. You'll relish in the quiet and beauty of the rural rolling foothills of Appalachia in mid-south TN. 20 minutes from any town so prepare en route. Route 99 splits the 17 acres with retreat center on one side and an 11.5 acre campground with significant river front property On The Buffalo. This is in Lewis county - of the Lewis and Clark adventurers. The Buffalo River is a class 1 and sometimes 2 river perfect for kayaking. Ask about add on options like a tour and story about the camp and animals or even a pottery lesson or art workshop.

Tent site · Sleeps 4
Pitch your tent or hang your hammock on the edge of the bluff above the Buffalo. This unique campsite is farther down a path into a unique wooded area on the bluff above the river and landscape below steps away. Because of this, no children under 12 allowed at this site. You'll be immersed in the forest and if voices are silent you can hear the river and the birds and the wind, if any, in the trees. There is enough space here for several tents. This listing requires an inquiry prior to booking to talk about your group. You are invited to walk around the property or even bring your mountain bike where you'll be able to ride about 1.5 to 2 miles meandering through the various terrain here on the buffalo. And don't forget the best aspect - our riverfront on the Buffalo - that features a nice area to wade or swim with a large rock wall as your view. Bring your canoe or kayak and you can set in to one of two spots up the river (5 or 10 min drive) and take out at the camp. A minimal transport fee to go get your vehicle or to be dropped off. To unload, you drive through the magical pine tree lane down to an area where you can unload. Parking only available for one vehicle. This special spot is best for one not very large tent. This is a primitive site.

Vehicle site · Sleeps 8 · Vehicles under 35 ft
Enjoy the rural environment of the rolling foothills of Appalachia in mid-south Tennessee about 20 minutes drive from Natchez Trace Parkway. You'll find yourself at a burgeoning creativity retreat center, artist/writer residency, and farm environment with chickens, donkeys (minis and standards), and peacocks if you want a full tour. Take a walk on the buffalo full campground over to the Buffalo River on an extended stay or a quick morning greeting with the donkeys if it's a brief pitstop. Enjoy fireflies in the summer, daffodils blooming in the spring, and starry skies when not cloudy. - hookup for electric, water, sewer (for ONE) - wifi - easy access - well paved state highway - SIZE - have had a 5th wheel with slides but that's a tight fit, a 40 person bus, a large self contained RV with bulkhead, two vehicles with trailers, and a camper van.  Depending on the size you are hauling, you may want to choose certain directions that may or may not take you on a ridge with winding road or more basin flat area for less hills. Please send a message about your departure location for tips on getting here. Half-way between Hohenwald and Waynesboro you'll be able to take day trips if you have more time to visit the Elephant Sanctuary visitor center or The Farm in Summertown or the Amish welcome center or Daniel Boone State Park or the little town of Linden may be up your alley.Wake up adjacent to the donkey corral, hear the roosters crow in the distance, and maybe catch a glimpse of Val in morning chores. Don't forget to ask for some fresh eggs! You may hear distant moos from the nearby ranches or birds in the bamboo. - well behaved pets allowed. Dogs that will bark excessively at the chickens and donkeys may not be a good fit. Dogs not mindful should be on a leash as there is a road that has a car every once in a while drive by.- Bring your kayak, bike, or hiking shoes to explore the 12 acres On The Buffalo campground (see other listings). Please note that this is close to a road that does not have much traffic. Some people are okay with the proximity to the other houses, the picnic area, and all the donkeys. If you want more seclusion please see the other listing that does not have electric.
