Welcome to CAMP 222, a private campground nestled on approximately 1 acre of land adjacent to Lewis Smith Lake in Cullman, AL. Lewis Smith Lake, managed by Alabama Power, spans 21,000 acres and is the deepest lake in Alabama at 264 ft. The water level varies throughout the year, usually reaching full-pool from April to July before gradually decreasing for the autumn and winter seasons. Please note the rocky shore near the sun deck, which is why jumping or diving from the sun deck is prohibited. The nearby City of Cullman, located approximately 10 miles away, offers abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Additionally, the city hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the Rock The South Music Festival.

Beautiful tall pines enclose this beautiful site in front of an old public cemetery plot that's rarely visited but has a pathway through the woods for exploring, a circle path we named Panther Path will lead you right back to camp. Firewood can be ready at your campsite for an additional cost. We have seasonal events as well as a farm stand, a bus shop, and a greenhouse. (These are still projects in progress.) We have two dogs, Boogie - a male and a very large dog, LGD - Livestock Guardian Dog, her name is Maple. Both dogs are very nice and kind. Maple's job is to protect our ducks and chickens from predators. She will bark but she will not hurt you. She will especially love you if you have treats or say 'Hello, Maple!" We will try to have her put away before bookings if enough notice is given. She will not hurt a human, she knows her job and duty on our homestead but she can be nosy as she runs the perimeter of our property often. If you have a fear of dogs or would like to make sure she is put up just send me a message beforehand and I will make sure she is put away secure. She also will not mind other dogs but please make sure if you bring a pet it is kind to other animals and we expect all pets are leashed at all times unless inside your rig.

The Dry Bones Live (Ezekiel 37). The first visit in 2019 to this 21 acres was both a shock and a confirmation. It had everything on our check list and more - nearly flat land, convenient location, but also twice the acreage, a roadbed, diversity, Monarch butterflies everywhere, access to a big lake.....and it was littered with logs!! My sister, Pam, and I hope that visitors will come to enjoy the seasonal changes of flower colors, watch for foot and hoof prints of wildlife, enjoy the songs of the birds and the frogs, see how many different native mushroom species they can spot, and be marveled by the stars as they sparkle in the dark night sky. Beautiful place, everything is exactly as described. The road is a little noisy but I didn’t mind. Where else do you get a camper spot on the water, with private boat launch, dock, fire pit etc. For the information of future campers, there is a free rv dump station at the Interstate rest area 7 miles away. We stopped on the way out to flush the tanks.

This was one of my favorite places I have visited so far. The hosts were very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. I am a single, female camper so I was concerned about safety but that was quickly alleviated. I will definitely do that again!

The host was very nice and made us feel welcome. We really enjoyed the campsite and had a blast. The hiking trails off of the site were just challenging enough to make it exciting, but not impossible for people with little experience. I’d highly recommend the zoo near the site. We were at the bobcat tent site and could hear the lions and hyenas at night from our campfire. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Bug Tussle Creek Bend

I really enjoyed this campsite. The drive in was very straightforward (especially if you watch the YouTube video). The creek was low since we haven't had any rain lately. It was extremely private- some occasional far off car noise and dogs barking but otherwise a wonderful spot in the woods. Plenty of room for multiple tents or vehicles. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Weekend Trip to Dark Hollow

We decided to camp here last minute, and we loved it! The view was great, we were secluded and it felt like we were in our own little place. It was very relaxing, and the owners were very kind to not only us, but my kid too. ( Bonus points for Zed for tricking my fiancé into running to beat his lawnmower 🤣 ) we try to camp at a new location every trip, but we are already planning on being back here! We were the first campers there, and were able to choose our spot! You can also purchase wood and they will bring it to the spot of your choosing!

It was a great time camping at Dark Hollow. Danny met us right when we arrived and showed us around and since we were the first ones there for the day he let us choose the exact site we wanted. Zed was also great and was there whenever we had a question or needed anything. The views were great, the hike to the creek at the bottom was easy, and the add on firewood extra was definitely worth the $15. Would stay at Dark Hollow again!

Danny was an amazing host, he met me when I arrived to show me around despite it being late in the evening. The camp area is neat and orderly and the composting outhouse was extremely clean and orderly. Each campsite had a great fire ring, picnic table, and a stack of firewood. But the show stopper was the propane heated outdoor shower! It was amazing and an absolute experience in of itself. I'll definitely be staying again when I next visit the area! I would have to say that it was the best hip camp experience I've had to date!

Dark hollow was spectacular! The host was super nice and showed up all of the open sites. We stayed at the ledge and it had a beautiful view. The outdoor shower was warm and clean. Would recommend!
