Perched on a grassy bluff above the Pacific Ocean in Los Padres National Forest, Kirk Creek Campground is where you go when you can’t stand driving past the incredible views of Big Sur any longer. From the small, 33-site oceanside campground, you can gaze into the emerald waters and rolling mountains of this iconic coastline for days. Kirk Creek tent and RV sites come with picnic tables, fire rings, and restroom access, but campers will have no access to hookups or water. A trail from the campground descends to a rocky beach 100 feet below the bluff, while sandy beaches and a variety of coast range hikes are just a few miles away.

Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation

  • Of the 33 sites at Kirk Creek Campgrounds, 31 are reservable six months in advance and just two are open on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Reservations can be made online or by calling (877) 444-6777.
  • Kirk Creek is extremely popular and often books out early. If Kirk Creek is full, try the nearby Limekiln Campground.

    • When to Go

    Kirk Creek Campground is open year-round. It is nearly always full during summer, as well as on spring and autumn weekends. Plan for cold nights and rain if you are making a winter visit, when you may be able to spot migrating whales in the waters below without even leaving your campsite. Spring visitors may encounter wildflowers.

    Accessible from Carmel. READ FULL DETAILS OF LISTING BEFORE BOOKING Centrally located between Carmel and the Heart of Big Sur. On a paved road with quick and easy access to Hwy 1. Adorable little cabin in the redwoods, with upstairs lofted sleeping area (double bed), sleeps 2 people. Kitchen, stove, mini fridge and private bath. Stairs are very steep to loft, with open railing upstairs. Please review pic's before booking. Adults only. The larger main cabin on property, is rented separately. Our cabin is in the Santa Lucia mountains and immersed in nature. Please be aware that wildlife is apart of the rugged Big Sur Coast and mountains. Wildlife encounters are something that is not out of the ordinary. From raccoons, skunks, deer, mountain lions, bats, mice, spiders snakes and all types of birds. We have exceeded measures of to keep occurrances to a minimum and have monthly pest control services. BUT can't guarantee you will not be met with wildlife. ANY ENCOUNTERS DURING YOUR STAY, WILL NOT BE ISSUED A REFUND. If you do not feel comfortable with the paragraph, then please do not book our cabins. Recommendations in Big Sur is Ventana Inn, Post Ranch or something in Carmel or Monterey. 1 Dog allowed, pre-approved by owner and $70fee. No aggressive breeds. Under 50 lbs. Must be leashed, picked up after, not allowed on furniture or left alone. Not allowed in the lofted sleeping area, due to step stairs, open railings. Not safe for animals! If you have a hairy dog, please keep the hair swept and under control. It is not fair for our cleaners to do de-fur the cabin. We allow dogs as a wonderful courtesy and don't want it abused. There is NO cell reception in our area, due to the mountain range. You loose reception once you leave Carmel and head south, or leave Big Sur and travel north to the property. WIFI is available but can be intermittent due to rural location. Text and wifi available, no cell reception, once logged into our internet. INTERNET IS NOT GUARANTEED DURING YOUR STAY. At the beginning of our road, it has a "road closed sign". You CAN get to our cabin. Our road is residential and a dead end. So there is not need to go past our cabin. All hiking and site seeing is along Hwy 1.

    We can accommodate tent campers or car campers. Each campsite fits 4-6 people. The price is $40/per person. Kids under 12 are free. Most campsites are accessible by car and all campsites are accessible by foot. PLEASE NOTE, we do not have a traditional check in procedure. Campsites are first come first serve. Expect a "self-check in process" most of the time. However, there are sometimes people working onsite that you may run into, that are happy to help and lead you in the right direction. You choose your own campsite so plan to arrive early. You can park and walk around. There is signage that says "CAMP" with Arrows. BYO water. We have sulfur spring water. Great for your skin, not good to drink! There's a couple outhouses on the property. One in the main camp zone, one at the far north end of the lower Redwood campsite. You can also bring a shovel and take a walk if you're in the more remote campsites. We have a dumpster outside the gate for your garbage. IMPORTANT INFO Please don't mind our farm junk/tools as you enterGate 1! We are slowly working on clean up and relocation of materials from the entry road and away from view. This is located past the mineral baths. It's the furthest one to reach, and accessible by foot. They are about 300 feet apart and not easily visible from each other. Property is fully fenced; both sites are next to an open field under the oaks with vineyard, olive orchard and mountain views. This property is 30 miles from Paso Robles and almost perfectly centered between Missions San Antonio and San Miguel. Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento are close by. Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. The Tiny House: A Fairy tale cottage style wooden tiny home built in the 1980's with a bottle wall, full bath, and reading nook. This three story wonder will leave you inspired to step into your own story. Fully equipped with a small kitchen, queen bed, reading nook and two beautiful outdoor decks, you'll feel like you stepped into another world. The Main Bungalow is a 1970's GEM, built by a movie industry icon with views of the valley through the stunning and huge five windows overlooking the Salinas River.     Our 42 acres is located at the beginning of the award winning Adelaide Wine trail in Paso Robles. Our ranch was once home to a horse boarding and breeding ranch which bred Paso Fino horses, known for their beautiful gait. Having been a horse ranch, it left us with some nice trails that you can enjoy during your stay. We have some nice uphill walks to view your local surroundings while sitting to enjoy a glass of wine or you morning cup of coffee/tea. We are on a well out here so at times you may get a sulphur/mineral smell to the water. Please bring your own drinking/cooking water. It is safe to shower, my hair feels so much thicker! On the ranch you will see that we have 2 donkeys, Desi (black) and Lucy (light grey). Along with our donkeys we have to friendly goats, Fiona (brown) and Sadie (white), they love carrots. but please stick to one carrot a day each, we don't want to over feed them. We also have chickens which means have farm fresh eggs. $5 for 1/2 dozen. Up on the hill you will see Connie a cow and her buddy Samuel, the bull. they love carrots but please do not go into their pasture. She'll think you're bringing food and gets very dangerously excited. Please feel free to walk the property and become one with nature while observing the local indigenous floral and fauna.

    Aggressive raccoons issue for years that has not been dealt with - Old aluminum trash can is a welcoming call for them. The Camp allow RVs next to tent and had to leave two days prior to the end because the camper was turning on his generator from 6.20 till 10PM Non stop - Surrounding campers left the campsite earlier as well. It used to be a relaxing place where you could contemplate the pacific ocean now it is not worth the $45 a day and deal with raccoons and noisy RV's blocking the view

    Liked the steep hike down to the rocky beach, sunsets, and proximity to Big Sur magic everywhere. Aggressive raccoons though haha. Just be careful with your food!

    Magical. The views here require no phone filters. Walk up to the cliffs and water. Most popular sites are 8 and 9 that directly overlook the cliffs. 9 has its own path to the trail down towards the water. There's a bathroom but no running water here. Haven't ever experience any wild animals here. Some walk-in/bike-in sites. Otherwise, it's best to reserve the campsites far in advance. If you try to walk up during peak season, you'll be out of luck.

    The raccoons in this campground are bold! They ate all of our food. Also be aware of the ticks out here in Big Sur. They are in every campground near the beach. Also has amazing views at sunset, toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings.

    Beautiful views, right on the coastline. Being big sur there are no sandy beaches, but the coastline is stunning none the less. Well maintained when I was there, although raccoons are everywhere and if you do not use the provided food storage containers they will chew their way into your tent and eat your food (according to the camp host it has happened many times).

    I've stayed at 3 different campgrounds in Big Sur and this is by far my favorite. Insane views, magical little paths down to the beach. You really can't beat waking up here. It was pouring rain during our last trip and and it was still beautiful! Definitely book in advance! I've also had luck arriving at 7am on a Friday and snagging a spot as people are waking up and packing up.

    Temperature can drop pretty low, especially the closer you are to the water. Also, toilet isn't the cleanest. But the views are amazing! And price is one of the most affordable I've found.

    There is firewood near the entrance of the campground, so you don't have to stress too much about picking it up before you arrive. Just make sure you have cash to put in the wooden collection box for however many bundles of wood you take.
