The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

SiloSide QuaranLean-to

100%
(18)
Tent site · Sleeps 6
Retreat to solitude for the night in the lean-to overlooking the SiloSide barn and property to the maple-dappled hillsides of the Northeast Kingdom. This rustic cedar lean-to sits at the top of former Abenaki land turned pastureland and features a fire pit, and a provided hammock. Set up a tent behind the lean-to in the heirloom apple orchard, or rent out both the lean-to and the A-frame with friends and walk the short forest trail connecting the two sites over a small stream. Take a dip in the on-site pond, or visit Harvey's Lake or Groton State Forest's Boulder Beach. Access to VT hiking (Devil's Hill, Mount Pisgah and Hor, Burke Moutain), biking (Kingdom Trails, Lamoille Valley Rail Trail and VTXL) and boating (many local ponds and rivers!) can all be found within a 30 minute radius, or head over to NH's White Mountains 45 minutes away. The "QuaranLean-to" is located on a hillside above our other site, the A-frame, and accessible by a short walk after parking any vehicle at the base of the hillside. Firewood is available for purchase online or on site. There is no wifi access, limited cell service, and ample peacefulness. Please notify us if you are planning to bring a pet with you; we have a dog and chickens, and expect you and your pet to be respectful of our property -- please clean up pet waste. *Coming 2023: Our land will also honor the Abenaki Native Americans who first settled on this land with a nature trail featuring traditional medicinal plants. NOTE: If you are traveling on the VTXL bike route and arriving by bike, we are able to make an exception to the 2-night minimum. Please send us a message to inquire about forgiving the 2-night minimum.

SiloSide A-frame

(66)
A-frame · Sleeps 4 · 1 bed
Make your home for the night in the A-frame at the north of the SiloSide property, facing the green mountains and the length of the old SiloSide dairy barn. Enjoy the surrounding open wildflower fields, heirloom apple trees and marvel at the summer fireflies and stars. The A-frame is located off the dirt road and below our walk-in site, "QuaranLean-to" and accessible by any vehicle. A queen futon is available, despite some older photos - BYOB: bring your own bedding including pillows. A clean fitted sheet is provided. Guests have access to a potable water spigot, composting toilet, and large fire pit with grates and some cooking utensils. Firewood is available for purchase online or on site. There is no wifi access, limited cell service, and ample peacefulness.  If you are booking before Memorial Day weekend (last weekend in May) please be aware that spring weather is fickle and sometimes very cold. The A-frame is NOT insulated, and the woodstove is NOT functional. NOTE: If you are traveling on the VTXL bike route and arriving by bike, we are able to make an exception to the 2-night minimum. Please send us a message to inquire about forgiving the 2-night minimum.
