Shady Owl Ranch is a 18 acre non-profit animal sanctuary with dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and turkeys. The cats and poultry are free range so if you are fearful of chickens, ducks or turkeys, you probably shouldn't stay here. 😁 Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and re-established their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

Welcome to our finished studio cabin overlooking a large pond. Very close (2 miles) to Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on property. Cabin has couch, queen size bed, loft with king size bed, Keurig coffeemaker (coffee pods provided), refrigerator, warm water shower, compostable toilet, porch and fire pit. Cabin has electricity, heat/AC, and a TV/DVD player (not a smart TV). Linens are provided. Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. There is a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs to be off leash. The cabin is only 12 by 18 ft so maximum 4 adults but there is another cabin on the property to rent. See below. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey from our bees are available for purchase. Also on the property is the Conifer Cabin. Both have their advantages. Conifer Cabin is more secluded but you have to walk further from your parking spot (about 200 ft). It also is more set up for longer stays (has an armoire and small kitchen). Songbird Suite is situated on the pond, has turkeys, chickens and ducks around the camp and a covered area. Discounted rate to rent both is $150/night. You will need to contact me first for the discounted rate when you rent both cabins because I have to manually adjust the price. Love this place as close to home for a lovely weekend get away. The town of Mt. Vernon is also great to explore and very short drive from the cabin. Also several great hiking trails near by. Host is wonderful and all their animals. Also the honey they make is outstanding. This is a mother/daughter weekend trip and we have been coming here for 3 years. Plan to make it back next year as well

Wonderful setting ,great size. For one person. I couldn’t get the keurig to work for tea. Bathroom and toilet were comfortable. Being “older” it would help me if there was a handrail on the outside. Great hosts!!!!
