Down in the holler, safely on the bank above the river to go swimming and wadeing in night or day, it has complete privacy. Guests will enjoy more than an acre to themselves, a quarter mile walk down hill and stairs from parking, it is perfectly flat for tents fire pit and loose the dog. There are small fish to catch in the river, surrounded by native wildlife, and a nest of eagles often fly down the river. Cooking grill, table, axes, rake and toilet. Several campers have informed me of little to no data and low signal at the site which improves at the overlook hammock.

Campsite is tucked nicely in the holler under an expansive canopy. A quarter mile walk down hill and stairs from parking. Adjacent to a small creek and waterfall, campsite is atop an old stone wall and logging road. Site is still rough and needs breaking in, toilet is at adjacent campsite 500' away. Within site of house depending on foliage.

Rough Hilltop Camping.

This is a rough site I am working on and breaking in. Discount priceing, work trades accepted. Accessible by 4WD, ~50' from driveway, within site of the house depending on foliage. The site is a a hillside which starts gentle and then increases slope further down. Cleared of small trees, but many 1 yr saplings.
This spot is absolutely beautiful and Alex is an amazing camp host!
There is a wonderful view of the river, the space is secluded and peaceful. This site is a good balance of amenities to make things more convenient without taking away from the fact that you’re out there to commune with nature.
I look forward to coming here again!
We enjoyed our stay. It was a nice spot. I waited for the review because we couldn't recommend it to others and I wanted to be fair. The excellent communication was missing, he was a couple hours late for everything except the original greeting, which regretfully went to junk mail. Not his fault. He had wonderful, clearly marked parking for us which was given to his friends or family when he had visitors. He let us know about the bear, porcupines, and skunks when it would have been too late to cancel if it had bothered us. I think the tics were overlooked, but common sense for the location. Lime is not supposed to be used in composting toilets...there were no warnings for the hazards in handling this substance. I would worry about kids with this. The homemade steps were quite hazardous in the rain...very slippery. They actually reminded us of the Devil's Staircase only smaller. The fairy lights didn't exist. They were solar powered and it had rained for a week. With the rain came the mud which made the trip to and from the toilet an unexpected hazard and the creek impossible even for our dog who we can't normally keep out of the water. The gunshots from neighbors and the frequent airplane traffic was a little annoying. The morning the rain stopped the chorus of birds was amazing...best alarm clock ever! There were many nice attributes, but probably not for us in the future.
This campsite fell far below expectations. It is a long, very steep and precarious hike (with all your camping gear) down to a site that is not very flat and has poor amenities. Nothing meets the standards of a nice campsite. It does sit along a creek but even that is hard to see from the camp site. Climbing down and up to the campsite is not for the meek - it is physically demanding. Unless you are seeking a truly isolated and primitive experience with a physical challenge of schlepping your stuff up and down steep slopes with precariously and poorly built steps, I would take a pass on this one. I don’t think this should even qualify to be listed on HipCamp as a viable site.
Wonderful, secluded, and private. It's a heck of a hill back up to your vehicle, but absolutely worth the quiet campsite that's all yours.. it's easy to think you and your camp mate(s) are the only people for miles when you're at the site. Composting toilet, firewood, splitting maul, rake.. so many little things provided to make set up easier to list.
Will absolutely be booking there again.
Great little spot! Super private, not a long drive from DC (just over an hour), and cozy. We liked the long walk from the car (it takes 4-5 minutes or so, and is steep)--made it feel like we we were roughing a bit more knowing we couldn't just run to the car. Alex was friendly, oriented us, then left us alone.
We had such a great time tent camping! If you walk down to the water the view of the stars is unbeatable. The campsite had more amenities than i realized so it was really awsome to be so prepared, we had brought our own wood but the area was well stocked. We took the time to try out every hammock provided & we were not disappointed. Overall a really great stay, felt super secluded (though you can still hear trains and planes and such). The walk up and doen from the car definitely felt like a workout but the path was easy to follow.
Excellent place for the family, and the dog loved it too! located by the creek with everything you need all in one spot. Very peaceful and secluded, Alex is a great host-highly recommend.
Nice, seeded campsite next to a creek. Very peaceful, and we enjoyed the hammocks along the trail and at the site. Alex was a friendly and helpful host.
Great, quiet, and peaceful spot. There’s a bit of a downhill walk to get to the spot. It’s not far but I recommend packing a backpack with your stuff. Host was nice and accommodating. Great communication.
The secluded spot by the river was perfect! The short hike was well worth it, and the hammocks were great for lounging. Letting the doggie off leash to play in the stream was something we'll definitely come back for again .
The beautiful drive out to Alex's place is almost worth the price of admission! The place is just as he has described it...private, secluded, and primitive. He does have a nice fire ring, hammock, table, and even several camp chairs. The hike down the hill and climb back up is considerable, but he has built some nice steps into the hillside. The creek is great for sitting in and letting the minnows "peck" at your skin. I would hate to think I had a lot of gear to haul to the site such as food and ice chests, but then I am 68! A really nice touch was the trash can with bags and the shovel for the fire pit....and yes, he had loads of firewood already cut.
Alex has a beautiful spot of land in Leesburg and the walk-in campsite is private with a big fire pit, grill, chairs and benches. It is nicely shaded and the bugs weren’t bad at all (the fire may have helped). It overlooks a beautiful stream and is surrounded by trails and well-placed hammocks for lounging. Keep an eye out for frogs, tadpoles and birds.
The path down to the site is a well-cleared, steep hill lined with fairy lights and wood stairs part of the way. The toilet situation is very basic (think bucket and lime).
We were camping with two kids under five who did great and we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks Alex for your generous hospitality!
