This family favorite offers everything from pony rides to paddle boats. Â
On the south banks of the Platte River, this 450-acre park packs in activities to suit all tastes. Cool off from the summer heat with a swim at the pool, head down to the riverside to fish or kayak, or cruise around Jenny Newman Lake on a paddleboat. Forested hiking and biking trails lead the way to the Observation Tower, home to the best view in the park, and thereâs also a championship golf course, an archery range, and horseback rides. Bison Lane Campground has full hookup sites for tents and RVs, or you can check into a cabin or glamping teepee.
Peak season at Platte River State Park runs from April through October, and weekends can get busyâarrive early to snag a picnic spot. Many activities are seasonal, so check opening hours in advance if you have your heart set on a paddleboat ride or a trail ride. Camping is possible year-round, and cheaper rates in the low season make this a good option for budget campers.
