The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns. Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep. Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. Nestled in the woods with a view of the sunset, the lovely A Frame is filled with lovely woodwork, vintage parquet flooring, and private wooded views. The deck is huge! We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy. The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone. In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river). In our many camping adventures over the years our favorite campgrounds were in our National Forests. We have built the campground with that "feel" of a forest experience. We provide a drinking water station, 2 clean sit arewidely spaced and offer considerable privacy. There is great scenic motor touring from Spring Mountain, the highest point in the county, across the Mohawk Dam, to riverside drives, scenic backroads and a ride across a covered bridge! Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Consider splitting larger groups into smaller groups. *Repackage food to minimize waste. *Use a map and compass or GPS to eliminate the use of marking paint, rock cairns or flagging. Focus activity in areas where vegetation is absent. In pristine areas: Disperse use to prevent the creation of campsites and trails. Avoid places where impacts are just beginning. Dispose of Waste Properly Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite, food preparation areas, and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock. Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors. Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises. These principles were established by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and built on work by the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management in the mid 1980s. Learn more about this land: I'm an artist and my husband and I have a small homestead with chickens and sometimes sheep/goats. Look out for electric netting to keep our herd/flock protected. The lighting over our back field is divine in the late afternoon, or if you prefer a wooded setting, we have a small wooded area across the street from our house. The area is hilly and rather private-- only one neighbor is visible when the trees are leafed out. Electric is accessible from an outlet at the backyard fence or in the barn. We often have fresh veggies and fruit in the garden in the summer, and sometimes extra farm fresh eggs. Nearby (10 minute drive) is Hargus lake, with boat rental and fishing. Also nearby is the Slate Run Historical Farm, (15 minute drive) which is a farm that is fully functioning as a farm from the 1880's with sheep, draft horses, hogs, and poultry at Slate Run Metro park, which has many woodland and wetland trails, as well as a covered bridge and several playgrounds. We are about 35 minutes from the Hocking Hills area, which is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in Ohio.

Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

In 1980, a second dwelling was added to the property when a cabin on a nearby farm was moved across the fields and placed near Madden Pond. In recent years, the family has endeavored to be good stewards of the land by planting trees, growing fruits and vegetables while incorporating sustainable practices. Also of interest, since 2014, family members from Madden Farm have hosted the Madden Road Music Fest, a one-day music festival held annually on the second Saturday in August. Our camping sites are secluded, offering a variety of shade and sunshine. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. Connected to the sites, we have walking trails that meander through woods where you'll see a variety of trees and wildflowers. Our community area is centrally located with a fire pit, picnic tables, and an open area for group gatherings. The toilet and sink for hand washing are in this area. While at Madden Farm, you can relax under the trees in Sweet Gum Hammock Grove, witness spectacular sunsets and star-filled night skies like no other, and enjoy the beauty and serenity of Ohio farmland. If you enjoy fishing, bring your pole and gear to fish (catch and release) from the banks of Madden Pond. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. We provide a drinking water station, 2 clean sit arewidely spaced and offer considerable privacy. There is great scenic motor touring from Spring Mountain, the highest point in the county, across the Mohawk Dam, to riverside drives, scenic backroads and a ride across a covered bridge! Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock. Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors. Let nature's sounds prevail. Learn more about this land: I'm an artist and my husband and I have a small homestead with chickens and sometimes sheep/goats. Look out for electric netting to keep our herd/flock protected. The lighting over our back field is divine in the late afternoon, or if you prefer a wooded setting, we have a small wooded area across the street from our house. The area is hilly and rather private-- only one neighbor is visible when the trees are leafed out. Electric is accessible from an outlet at the backyard fence or in the barn. We often have fresh veggies and fruit in the garden in the summer, and sometimes extra farm fresh eggs. Nearby (10 minute drive) is Hargus lake, with boat rental and fishing. Madden Farm has been in the Madden family and its descendants for seven generations. The original farmhouse on Madden Farm dates back to the 1860s. In 1980, a second dwelling was added to the property when a cabin on a nearby farm was moved across the fields and placed near Madden Pond. In recent years, the family has endeavored to be good stewards of the land by planting trees, growing fruits and vegetables while incorporating sustainable practices. Also of interest, since 2014, family members from Madden Farm have hosted the Madden Road Music Fest, a one-day music festival held annually on the second Saturday in August. This was the perfect place for our first time camping with two girls and our dogs. we were with a two year old (in a blow up toddler mattress), a 9 month old (in a pack and play) and two German shepherds on a dog bed. It all fit spaciously in the tipi. The amenities were great for cooking over the fire (that cast iron skillet is awesome!). And the toilet was SO CLEAN! Omg! We loved walking around the space and being able to see the bison from our site was top notch.

My 2 littles and I stayed here for our yearly mommy & little escape and had the best time! The cabin was in such a peaceful area, but so much to explore! Everything we needed was available and it was very comfortable. The kids loved the little fishing pond too! PJ greeted us when we got there and gave us the background information on the place; which was very interesting. He made us feel welcome and was available when needed! We will definitely return! We’ve been staying at Christy’s farm for years. It’s amazing. I have a 10 and 7 year old, and it’s been really fun watching their interests in the farm evolve over the years. We started camping here when they were 18 months and 4.5 years old. There’s never a dull moment from the fishing pond to the frog pond to the pollinator maze to the creek. The scenery is beautiful. We provide a drinking water station, 2 clean sit arewidely spaced and offer considerable privacy. There is great scenic motor touring from Spring Mountain, the highest point in the county, across the Mohawk Dam, to riverside drives, scenic backroads and a ride across a covered bridge! Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Learn more about this land: I'm an artist and my husband and I have a small homestead with chickens and sometimes sheep/goats. Look out for electric netting to keep our herd/flock protected. The lighting over our back field is divine in the late afternoon, or if you prefer a wooded setting, we have a small wooded area across the street from our house. The area is hilly and rather private-- only one neighbor is visible when the trees are leafed out. Electric is accessible from an outlet at the backyard fence or in the barn. We often have fresh veggies and fruit in the garden in the summer, and sometimes extra farm fresh eggs. Nearby (10 minute drive) is Hargus lake, with boat rental and fishing. Also nearby is the Slate Run Historical Farm, (15 minute drive) which is a farm that is fully functioning as a farm from the 1880's with sheep, draft horses, hogs, and poultry at Slate Run Metro park, which has many woodland and wetland trails, as well as a covered bridge and several playgrounds. We are about 35 minutes from the Hocking Hills area, which is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in Ohio.

Prior to our family purchasing the property back in 2007, the farm served as a third generation apple orchard. Many of those trees are still around in our three orchards, plus some new additions over the past few years. Not only do my husband and I call the farm home, my parents and sister do as well. We would be happy to host you here on our 130 acres of rolling hills and hay fields.
