This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole Community Centre also has events nearby.

We bought this property in 2008 as raw land with an old off-grid 1950's cabin on it. While the log structure was sound, the cabin needed some major renovations to be liveable. We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. We now run the cabin as a short term rental, have another small rental next to our house and we are using the yurt for gatherings, retreats and yoga classes! Looking for something a little different? Our Lotus Belle Tent offers a 'glamping' experience, tucked amidst a cedar forest on 5 acres of private land, situated under Sentinel Mountain. Located 15-min from Castlegar and 24-min from Nelson, there is great access to a variety of outdoor adventures, fabulous dining spots and connecting with nature. The Lotus tent is suited for a solo traveller, a couple, or two friends who don't mind getting cozy together. We cannot accommodate pets or children. The Outback Lotus Belle is a 16ft canvas tent with 200 square feet of standing space. Inside, you will find a double bed with linens and pillows, a sink with cold running water, and dish soap with towels. Bring a sleeping bag for blanket please and your own towels for shower. Outside, there is a large deck with a BBQ and furniture, a fire pit, and a hot outdoor shower. We provide bins for garbage, compost, and recycling, along with a cooler; please remember to bring your own ice. There is no electricity at the bus, so please bring a headlamp. A private outhouse and the hot outdoor shower are located near the bus for your convenience. While we do not offer internet access, there is excellent cell reception if you have data on your phone. Slocan Lake and Silverton can be accessed in just 5 minutes. There you will find ice, a laundromat, cafes, a grocery and health food store, and the lakefront. A 10-minute drive takes you to New Denver, a beautiful mountain town with access to endless world-class mountain biking, hiking trails, and mountaineering opportunities, as well as various water activities. Weekend Trip to Bear Spring Glamping

We had an incredible weekend glamping at Bear Spring! It's a really beautiful and peaceful spot with the sweetest guard dog, Bella. There's plenty to keep you entertained with a big communal space, darts, yard games (we particularly enjoyed the corn hole) and a kitchen stocked up with all utensils you need. The tents are roomy and comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. Our host Solita was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. She also let us pick fresh raspberries and peas from the garden! Would highly recommend and are already planning our next trip to Bear Spring!

2 nights at Mega Vistas Mountain Get away

We loved our stay ( two nights) in the schoolbus. What a spectacular view! The bus is beautiful private/secluded situated. It was very quiet and serene. We saw deer and lots of birds from the deck. In the morning we were treated with delicious cinnamon rolls. We walked the Galena trail from New Denver to Three Forks in and out, a beautiful hike. Our stay will definitely be one of the highlights of our vacation. Thank you Jessica husband for your hospitality.

Weekend Trip to Mega Vistas Mountain Get away

This was the favourite place I stayed on my road trip around the Kootenays. Jessica was so kind and she baked me a loaf of bread (which was delicious). The bus was very clean (as well as the pit toilet) and the bed was comfortable. I was able to make myself dinner and breakfast as there is a propane stove and oven, and running water. She also supplied pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils. Waking up in the morning to the morning sun on the mountain range was the best way to get up, truly a very stunning view. The property is large so you have your own space. I loved it and next time will want to stay longer than 1 night! Thanks again Jessica!!!

Johanna was a helpful host and was responsive to our needs. The cabin is a peaceful retreat from the busyness of life. The hikes on the property were perfect for our little family and were manageable even for our 4 year old. It’s all a nice escape. Directions were clear and easy to follow. Bring proper luggage that you can haul through the woods as you need to hike to the cabin. Takes about 10 minutes.

Weekend Trip to Woodsy, Artsy Nature Retreat

We had such a lovely time! To be honest, we were positively surprised by how nice the cabin was! We had everything we needed and more! The bed was comfy, the kitchen well equipped, everything was very clean and tidy. We enjoyed our dinner on the deck and imagined what the view would be like, if it hadn't been so smoky :D Maria is a great host! Her communication before and during our stay was fantastic and when we met her before we checked out, she gave us a tour of the property and showed us the other cabins, which are all super nice! We would love to come back!

Phil's tiny house is a super cute spot and we really enjoyed our time there. He is a super friendly, easy-going host and welcomed us in person when we arrived. He gave us a tour of the property and showed us everything we needed to know about the cabin, like how the solar power systems works and how to turn on the lights. I really enjoyed chatting with Phil and hearing about how he developed his land. The tiny house is rustic but we had everything we needed. It's set in a beautiful forest and at sunset, the sun shines through the trees which had a very magical vibe ✨ It is suuuper quiet there, both at Phil's property and also at Rosebud Lake which we explored the next morning thanks to Phil's kind offer to let us use his canoe which he even drove to the lake for us and picked it up 2 hours later. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the right place for you!

The cabin was awesome, very secluded and quiet, is a nice touch having all the cooking gear already there for you, the woodburning fireplace was great for keeping warm at night, Would recommend packing light for the light hike to get there. Would highly recommended for anyone looking to get away from a few days

Phil was incredibly kind, and the cabin was absolutely perfect. My son and I went canoeing on the lake and saw so many amazing turtles. It was truly a healing time for us, and we enjoyed it so much.

Weekend Trip to Valhalla Pines Campground

We loved our stay in the treehouse cabin at Valhalla Pines. The space is small (only bed and desk) but very comfortable! We took advantage of the little patio area to have our morning coffee and read. The hut overlooks a common area/building including washrooms and dishwashing space, picnic tables and hammocks. It was a great blend of camping vibes and comfort! We enjoyed meeting the other folks staying on the property and having a cuddle with Tom's dog, Sophie. The septic was down during our arrival, but Tom had toilet and shower backups in place that were great alternatives, and he had everything else up and running by the next day. We didn't explore much around the camp, but there is a river nearby that would be very tempting on a hot day. Highly recommend!

Charming, Clean, and Perfect for Our Family! We had such a great stay! The place was cute, quaint, and super clean — ideal for our family of three with bunks and a cozy cot. The communal kitchen was a huge plus, and we loved ending each day with a hot shower, a fire, and some serious coziness. Our host was a truly lovely person — warm and welcoming. Wish we had more time to chat! The location was pure magic: tucked in the forest, close to a beautiful river and trails. So much to do in the area — we’ll definitely be back!
