Orren Creek Ranch Campground – A Hidden Gem in the Southern Cariboo Relax and breathe in the fresh mountain air at this peaceful, private campground nestled in the heart of British Columbia’s wilderness. Perched on a forested plateau, Orren Creek Ranch offers a tranquil escape for nature lovers, soul seekers, and outdoor adventurers alike. Enjoy paddling the calm waters of our private lake—ideal for canoeing, kayaking, or simply drifting in stillness while observing beavers, waterfowl, and a rich variety of birds. Wake up to birdsong and watch for deer, moose, and soaring eagles that frequent the area. While our lake is best suited for non-motorized watercraft, we’re also located along the famous “Fishing Highway”, placing you just minutes away from world-class fishing and stunning swimming lakes.

Martens Resort on Timothy Lake

Let's be real...when booking a lakefront vacation in BC it's all about the lake and Timothy Lake will not disappoint. Timothy Lake is the perfect size, large enough to be unrestricted and offer great fishing, but small enough where you aren't always battling waves. As you venture from the shoreline you'll eventually loose site of the resort and soon find a public sandy beach, an uninhabited island, and a water channel connecting into Dempsey Lake. We've never heard that Dempsey is a great fishing lake, but it is a cool journey by paddle or small boat, and shows just how awesome the natural world is.....but watch for underwater branches throughout the channel cause a wrecked prop can make a good mad a bad mood - really quick. Located off the beaten track, Timothy Lake is seldom used by weekend warriors and is never too busy - making it great for swimming, water skiing, fishing or just floating around in one of those giant inflatable flamingo's...... if that's your thing. **There is a pet fee at $55/ per pet, you can add this to your booking at checkout.

Wildflower Meadows

26km from Lac La Hache Provincial Park · 1 site · Tent, RV
One acre, unique gothic arch house with various small out-buildings, lots of grass, aspen stands, wild roses, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, backs onto greenbelt where horses graze, deer roam, four friendly cats reside, three dogs dwell, multiple chickens do their chickeny things... It feels like being out in the country yet is only 4 minutes to a small grocery/liquor store. Bring some firewood and/or pallets and use the bonfire pit (as long as there is no local fire ban in effect). Unfortunately, we do not yet have an outhouse so we can only accommodate campers who have their own toilet facilities onboard. The nearest public toilets are a four-minute drive away and are open till 9:00, and there are 24-hour bathrooms about ten minutes away. We are a quiet, friendly family who will respect your privacy, but we welcome any questions you may have and we are happy to greet you!

The best camping in Lac La Hache Provincial Park, BC guide

Overview

About

This part of the South Cariboos once welcomed ranchers, fur traders, and prospectors who came through on the wagon road that runs through the park. Now, Lac La Hache is simply a fantastic place to relax. Stroll the two-kilometre Wagon Road Self-Guided Nature Walk to enjoy the fir forest and learn about gold rush history from the interpretive panels. Then, head to the long, calm lake to fish for burbot, lake, and rainbow trout, or just soak up the sun on the broad, sandy beach.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Far from the big cities, this part of BC still gets busy in the middle of summer, especially with campers coming up from Kamloops on Canadian holiday weekends. There’s also a considerable amount of through-traffic on the Cariboo Highway, the main route used to reach the famed Alaska Highway, so be prepared to book well ahead of time during peak times.
  2. Reservations can be made up to two months in advance, and of the 83 sites, all but 31 are available on a first-come, first-served basis. And if you really love it here, a number of sites can be booked on a long-stay basis.

When to go

Both the park and its campground open from the middle of May until the end of September. You can expect tons of sunshine at any time, with this part of BC sitting in the rain shadow of the coastal mountains. Daytime highs in July and August reach the mid-20s, and the lake warms as summer progresses. Evenings, even in July, can be brisk, with overnight temperatures dropping to around 50°F (10°C). May and September are far chillier.

Know before you go

  • You’ll find grocery, hardware, laundry, and basic camping supplies in nearby Williams Lake.
  • If you’re looking to drop a line, make sure you have a valid provincial fishing license, which can be purchased at most fishing supply stores.
  • As the story goes, the park’s very Francais name came from a trapper who lost the head of his only hatchet while opening a hole in the lake’s ice (it means “lake of the axe”).
