At South Manitou - Weather Station Campground (view campground map here), sites are tent-only. Once you’re settled in, soak in the sights Lake Michigan from the bluffs on the south side of the island. Sites are well secluded and have fire pits for open fires (hell ya!). Follow the wooded trail past the lighthouse about 1.3 miles to the campground, and by George, water is even provided at the campground.

South Manitou Island is a fantastic place to camp. The ferry ride to the island is not terribly long and offers beautiful scenery along the way. The island is quite diverse in its natural features, from beaches, to woods, to dunes, and more. The island is full of history and there is even a shipwreck (1/2 in 1/2 out of the water) off the west side of the island that you can swim out to! The camp sites vary in commodities and are well maintained. This is a great place to take kids or camp solo. Definitely come and enjoy South Manitou Island, it stands as one of the best places I've ever camped!
