Escape to a private mountain retreat just 25 minutes from Radium Hot Springs. Spend your days exploring miles of peaceful private trails, watching for wildlife, and taking in sweeping valley views. At day's end, gather around the campfire, listen to the nighthawks and experience incredible dark skies free from city lights. Back 40 offers boutique glamping on more than 600 private acres with three spacious canvas bell tents thoughtfully equipped with four comfortable single beds, giving you the charm of camping without sleeping on the ground. The shared basecamp includes Adirondack chairs, complimentary firewood, fire pits, a covered outdoor kitchen, picnic tables, camp stoves, clean outhouses (including one with a spectacular view!), a refreshing cold-water shower, and bear-proof storage lockers. Dogs are welcome for an additional $50 per dog, per stay (maximum two dogs per tent). Service animals are always welcome at no charge. Unplug, slow down, and experience the quiet side of the Columbia Valley.

Peaceful glamping in the Canadian Rockies, close to Radium Hot Springs and Kootenay National Park! Please note, this is a shared site with 3 glamping tents. Wake up to birdsong, spend your days exploring private mountain trails, and end the evening around the fire beneath an incredible star-filled sky. This spacious canvas bell tent combines the simplicity of camping with the comfort of real beds and room to relax. The Kootenay Tent is one of three bell tents on a shared one-acre basecamp within our 600-acre private property. Your tent and deck are your own private space, while the outdoor kitchen, fire pits, bear lockers, shower and wash facilities are shared with guests staying in the other tents. What's included: - 5 - meter canvas bell tent - Real beds with comfortable mattresses (bring your own bedding) - Private deck with Adirondack chairs - Firewood for the shared fire pits - Picnic table and camp stove at each tent site (bring your own propane) - Shared outdoor kitchen with prep counters, sink, and picnic tables - Running non-potable water for washing - Bear lockers - Outhouses - Outdoor cold shower - Limited kitchen cooking gear (we suggest you bring your own) We will provide a suggested list of gear to make your stay an awesome one. The property is easy to find from the highway, but the final 4 km is gravel with the last 1.2km very rough. A vehicle with good ground clearance (5 inches minimum) is recommended. Parking is about 50 metres from the tent, and we provide a gear wagon to make unloading easy. The highlights: - 600+ private acres - private hiking trails - mountain, valley, river and wetland views - dark skies - wildlife - no crowded campground - close to Radium, Invermere, Kootenay National Park and Columbia Wetlands Wildlife is part of the experience. Deer and elk are common visitors, and black bears also live in the area. We provide bear lockers and simple food-storage guidelines so everyone can safely enjoy sharing the landscape. We loved staying on the quieter side of the Rockies, away from the crowds! Katherine and Adrian were attentive and checked in with us in person to make sure we were settled. The setting is just stunning— on the slope of the Kootenays and looking out over the Columbia River basin and the Bugaboos across the valley. Very peaceful place! They were thorough and thoughtful in laying out the tent sites, the fire pits, the covered kitchen area, and the other amenities. We had a magical stay at the Back Forty, and I hope to return some day!

The most beautiful place i've stayed at. The morning view was great. The tents were awesome, kept the heat from the morning and with our sleeping bags it was more than sufficient. We had kids with us so was afraid it would be cold at night, but there was no issue. 5/5. The host also comes to give us a quick info, and suggestions on area to visit if we're in town etc.

We loved our stay at the Brisco tent. Super cozy and clean glamping site with stunning views and friendly and attentive hosts. Listing photos are accurate to what it was like IRL. We enjoyed meeting the other guests at the site as well. Perhaps my favorite part was the outdoor toilet!!

A beautiful space in the middle of the mountains! The tents were incredibly clean and comfortable. Appreciated the sheets on the beds as I forgot some!! They are not joking about needing clearance underneath the vehicle though as the last part of the road was quite off roady!

This is an amazing space, and was a truly special experience being able to stay. Can't say enough. The yurts were spacious, and the camp was fully equipped to ensure comfort. The fire pits and views were particularly perfect.

*Booked all three sites - Kootenay, Brisco, Bugaboo* Incredible. The site, the views, the amenities, everything was perfect. The tents were beautifully set up with the mountain views and sky in mind. The outhouses were clean and a short walk from the tents. The cooking shelter was well-equipped. It is evident that the hosts have put a lot of thought into everything, from the ease of finding the property to providing the luxuries I have not yet seen in other glamping sites. It was so easy to find everything we needed and was very intuitive. And to top it off, Katherine was very responsive and lovely to be in touch with. I really can't say enough good things about my experience. It is such a rare treat to enjoy the brilliance of the night sky without all the light pollution and noise. My group is already talking about planning another trip out. Truly looking forward to the next time we can visit. Until then, we have some of the best memories to sustain us.

Had a great weekend with my kids and their friends. The tents were very comfortable with lots of space for everyone’s gear. The views from the tents and the lower fire pit are spectacular. The cooking shelter is huge and great for rainy days. I would like to go back again sans kiddos so I can enjoy sitting on the deck and reading a book! It’s a very peaceful well appointed setting.

This is a fantastic spot….truly a hidden gem. The tents sit on a cleared area overlooking the East Kootenay region. The views are breathtaking! The tents are impeccably set up. There’s a nice kitchen area and lots of seating. There are also a few trails worth checking out. We went to the sunset point which was only 15’ away and it provided a great unobstructed view of the area. The owners are great….thank you Katherine for helping us prepare for a great visit. We hope we will come back in the not too distant future!

Great camping option near Radium Hot Springs and Kootenay National park. Our tent was cozy, directions and information from the hosts was great, aswell as their communication and friendliness. The basecamp has outhouses, shower, a gear buggy to bring your gear to the tent. Pets are allowed, so our cat George had a fun time. Beautiful views to wake up to!
