Weekend Trip to Tryfan Forest

We stayed at the Hemlock Grove site with 7 people, 3 cars and had plenty of room! We had 2 hammocks and 3 tents, this site is great for hammocking. Brent was very accommodating and provided all the information we needed. Unfortunately we got hit with some bad weather, but I would recommend Tryfan Forest to anyone looking to enjoy a quiet weekend on a beautiful piece of land.

Due to vehicle problems, I was unable to make my way to the site. Therefore, I can not comment on the facilities and the site. However, Brian was very supportive and attentive throughout. I can say that he is a fantastic host. I will definitely go to this site next time.

2 nights at Natural Joy! Cosy Canoe Cottage

Paul's cabin is so cozy and situated within such a stunning and remote area. We loved canoeing around Ragged Lake and looking the beautiful big faces of the Canadian Shield. We also loved just starring out at the lake and looking at the birds, the trees and the stars. My partner and I had such a lovely time and will definitely be visiting again!

Weekend Trip to Algonquin Lakeview Glamping Dome

We absolutely loved our stay at Derrick and Rachel's place! It was everything we dreamed of. The place is private, quiet and you are able to fully relax here. The Dome is beautiful, set high with gorgeous lake views. It is clean, extremely comfortable and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. They have every amenity you require, and excellent seating areas outside (around the fire, and at the dock). The available kayak, canoe and paddleboards allows you to fully enjoy the property. The sauna/shower was such a nice touch and a great way to unwind at the end of the day. If you are looking for a hidden gem, slice or paradise, or the perfect getaway this is your place! Rachel was very responsive and helpful. We highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Off-Grid Studios

Had an amazing stay at Sean’s place in the beginning of October. He was so accommodating and friendly. We had everything we needed and Sean was responsive to our messages. The lake is a short walk away and even though it was late in the season, we had warm enough weather to take a dip. We stayed on the landing site and had an overall amazing experience. Will definitely be back again. We went exploring and made a couple of new friends in the area as the people we encountered were very friendly. Not a single complaint and it’s nice for people who want to forgo the crowded campgrounds.

Weekend Trip to Middle Earth

Always a pleasure tent camping at Middle Earth, this was our third time here, second time at the woodlands camp site! The fall colours were incredible and we got to hang out with the squirrels and toads. This spot is very private with lots of space for parking and tents, and a nice large fire ring. Definitely prepare the necessities for taking care of business in the wild!

First time here and the host was very welcoming. We picked a spot close to the water but there was no car access to the site so we had to change it at the last minute. The host was very accommodating and made the changes without any issue. We like the site we chose and would come back again.

2 nights at Waterfield Ridge

It was a great spot to pitch a tent and unwind after a few days of fishing some Haliburton lakes. Easy to get to and Jennifer was a great and helpful host. The location is very scenic with the marsh and pond nearby and beautiful tall woods surrounding the site. We didn't get to meet Jennifer (we were too busy fishing all day) but she kept in contact and provided firewood as needed. The only downside I could think of was the barbecue on site didn't seem to have any propane, which was no big deal. We brought our own and actually didn't even know there would be one provided. The outhouse was a bit rustic, but for two guys living off the land it was a luxury to have a toilet at all. Lol. Would definitely go back!

It started raining right as we arrived and didn't stop until the next day, yet it was still a great trip! There's something special about this place! It feels very private and tucked into the woods, but there's a gravel road not far away, so you'll hear vehicles from time to time. Or people walking and talking and you'll think there are people in the bush, but they pass eventually.

Learn more about this land: Rustic bunkie located on 2 acres, is nestled among the trees beside a small, crystal clear lake. With 700 ft of untouched shoreline, privacy is second to none. From this lake, you can access 3 other lakes by provided canoe/kayak without portage. The site is 35 min. from Algonquin Park and 11 km from MKC, the world-famous white water paddling centre. 10x10 main floor with sleeping loft. Solar power provides lighting & a propane furnace for cool nights. Solar lights outside provide ambient lighting-may be turned off if preferred. The call of the loons & the barred owl will be your lullaby as you drift off to sleep after a day of hiking, paddling, or swimming.  There is no running water, you will have to bring your own drinking water. You will need to bring everything you require for cooking, eating and washing dishes. There is no sink, stove, or BBQ on site. As the site is off-grid, there are no appliances. There is a split log bench beside the self-contained fire pit.  Please bring your own firewood, matches/lighter,  and/or firestarter materials. Small fires only please, as this is a well-treed location. Fires must be extinguished prior to going to bed — there is a bucket by the firepit. If you are wondering if something is there, I suggest you reach out to check with me before arrival. There is a new private outhouse on site. The outhouse is past the bunkie along the path. Solar lights work with the flick of a switch — one switch by the door, one by the bed. You have access to 2 kayaks and 1 canoe, 2 adult lifejackets. These are located on the waterfront between the bunkie and the house @260 Matcheski Road. Please return these as you found them after each use. They are shared with the guests at the house. It is a natural shoreline at the bunkie, with a sandy bottom — pretty good swimming, actually! Absolutely no harsh chemicals/detergents in the water! Please leave the site tidy and as you found it. Take your garbage and recycling. This is a small lakeside community —  no loud music, please. Respect the solitude!  Please respect the natural setting — leave it as you found it, do not cut live growth.

Originally inhabited by Algonquin peoples the land was cleared for farming and they erected several building including a large German style hand hewn timber frame barn which still stands and is used today. The farm house was built in the 1910 and the original log cabins have been reframed into artistic buildings. The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage. The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max. Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there. The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks. This place was made by and for lovers, artists, poets, musicians, dreamers, writers, environmentalists, ecologists, escapists...and their children. Enjoy!
