Neil has a great place 30 minutes away from Gatineau! U get plenty of privacy on his property. We've enjoyed the sound of the water crrek at night. There is a wood heater inside the tent so the temperature was not too cold in mid october. There is a grocery store 5 min from the camp.... Very convinient. Would recommend!

Our third time staying at one of Kelly’s sites. Each one has been terrific, exactly as pictured. Pit toilets are cleaner and better equipped than some hotels! Kelly is a fantastic host. We really appreciated that she had her husband cut up a tree and bring it to our site for firewood as none was available for purchase and, being on motorcycles, she knew we would not be carrying any.

We found Burkes Barnyard on TikTok and were very excited to visit. Everything was exactly as advertised. Beautiful clean sites, wonderful hosts, farm fresh eggs available, and the animals are so much fun with chickens and ducks wandering through our campsite. Everything was perfect and we will be returning in a few weeks.

We had a wonderful experience! The kids had a blast with the chickens! We had a meet and greet with the animals which was one of a kind experience. The eggs were delicious !The sandy beach was nearby and we had an amazing time. The hosts were very kind and the welcome gift was truly kind and appreciated. Definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a cool camping spot.

3 nights at Meech Creek Falls

This is a sweet little spot. The waterfall and river are epic. Loved relaxing in the comfortable hammock too. The glamping tent is spacious and well kept with a comfortable bed and all the extra bedding one might need. It’s nice to have the shaded outdoor sitting area that’s screened in. We did not use the sauna, but the shower is ice cold- just a heads up- no warm water. The tap water is excellent drinking water. The compost toilet situation is about what you’d expect- definitely no frills. While the fridge and laundry did not work at the time we were there, Neil was accommodating by providing daily ice and offering his machine. He was very responsive to all communication and overall we enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely Stunning and Peaceful Escape! 🌲💦 We just returned from an incredible stay at this beautiful campsite and couldn’t be happier. There were plenty of well-marked trails that made hiking easy and enjoyable for all skill levels. The host was fantastic — welcoming, helpful, and made sure everything was just right. From the moment we arrived at Burks Barns Barnyard Camping, Melissa and Gary made us feel like part of the family. Gary greeted us with a warm smile and a welcome jar of honey from his very own bee farm — such a thoughtful touch! They went above and beyond to make our stay special, especially for our 6-year-old. Gary took the time to give him a close-up introduction to the farm animals, which absolutely made his day. Watching him light up while meeting the animals — from the friendly pigs to the curious chickens and proud roosters — was an unforgettable memory for us all. The campsites were spotless, well-kept, and thoughtfully equipped with little extras for our comfort, making our stay as relaxing as it was fun. The site was private, quiet, and right by the water—perfect for fishing and spending time outdoors. Everything was clean, well-kept, and just as described. It made for a peaceful and enjoyable stay. 1 night at Meech Creek Falls

Meech Creek Falls is our new favourite getaway! Neal is a wonderful host, very friendly with a detailed tour to help us feel at home and make best use of the space. Very private and quiet, with amenities that are as creative and charming as they are convenient. We loved how easy it was to spend almost every moment out of doors enjoying the beautiful surroundings. This is a setup where you won't have to worry too much about the weather, as it would be quite adaptable to different conditions. The waterfall is not just beautiful but tons of fun to climb and explore, with a few great spots to wade in for a swim and sunny banks to rest on. Tent was cozy and clean with a comfortable mattress. Sleeping to the noise of the falls cannot be beat. We will be back for sure!

Where to go

Algonquin Provincial Park

One of the oldest protected public parks in the world, Algonquin Provincial Park is home to more than 2,400 lakes, 750 miles of rivers and streams, 14 interpretive trails, and eight campgrounds. Whether car camping at one of the popular family-friendly RV sites or canoe camping in the backcountry, this is an exceptional destination for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and birdwatching.

Bonnechere Caves

This unique geological feature is one of the best sights in the area. The caves were formed by the power of the Bonnechere River over thousands of years and now feature funky rock formations and mesmerizing underground waterfalls. Visits are by guided tour only from spring to autumn. Those visiting in early October might spot bats getting into position for early hibernation.

Bon Echo Provincial Park

Bon Echo Provincial Park offers one of the most unique attractions of any Ontario provincial park, home to Mazinaw Lake and its surrounding rugged cliffs, which feature ancient Indigenous pictographs. Campers can take boat tours to see them up close and then hike to the top of the cliffs for an incredible view of the lake. The park also has excellent swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and biking.

When to go

Most provincial parks and outdoor attractions near Renfrew operate on a seasonal basis, from mid-May to mid-October. Campers should note that evenings can be pretty cold in May and June, and again in September and October. The mosquitoes and blackflies of Algonquin Provincial Park are legendary in their ferocity in late spring and early summer. Renfrew’s annual Renfrew Fair in September brings live music, carnival rides, and livestock showcases to town, while early October is the best time to admire the autumn colors around Algonquin (which gets very busy with weekend daytrippers).
