I built this cabin to be a romantic, cozy off-grid getaway for humans , but if most of our guests are being honest, the dogs are the ones having the best time. There’s a cozy queen bed with fresh linens and a down duvet. A covered deck with handcrafted rocking chairs for sunset views. A private fire area below for campfires and stargazing. LED lighting, a Bluetooth speaker, a Jackery battery bank, clean well water, lanterns, an outdoor shower, and a clean outhouse. I’ll even haul your gear in by ATV so you can settle in without the hassle. And after all that work, most guests still seem to agree on the real highlight: Watching their dogs absolutely lose their minds with happiness. More than anything, this place has become a favourite for people who want to give their dogs the kind of freedom they rarely get anywhere else. Most of our guests tell us over and over, that their favourite part is watching their best friends make their own decisions, run the trails, sniff everything, chase chipmunks, explore the forest, and basically have the time of their lives. Of course, the humans tend to enjoy themselves too. The cabin sits on a west-facing cliff on our private 164-acre property. Once you arrive, you’ll have the feeling of having the whole place to yourselves. The trails, the forest, the quiet, the sunsets, it all feels wonderfully removed from the usual noise. This time of year, the forest is waking up, and the property starts to shift into spring. It’s a beautiful season here, muddy in spots, full of fresh smells, birdsong, and that feeling that everything is coming back to life. For dogs, it’s heaven. For people, it’s a chance to unplug, slow down, and enjoy a kind of peace that’s getting harder to find. You’ll have access to 10 km of private trails through forest, ridgelines, and lakeshore. Wildlife is plentiful, and depending on the season, you may spot deer, foxes, loons, and maybe even a family of bald eagles! There’s no electricity or running water, but that’s part of the magic. This is real off-grid comfort: simple, peaceful, and thoughtfully set up so you can enjoy nature without giving up a good night’s sleep. Whether you come for a quiet escape, or just to watch your dog have the best weekend of their life, this is the place to be.

This warm and cozy getaway isn't quite like anything else. A rustic wood cabin with a fairytale flair guarantees fun and relaxation on your next vacation. Located in North Frontenac there is an abundance of lakes, forest, and trails to explore before coming home to a mug of hot chocolate in front of the fire. This rental includes both available cabins on the property, you will never be sharing with another group. Danaview is larger and has the main living space, Kneehill has extra sleeping space and some overflow living space. Don't worry about packing sheets or towels, linens are included. Outdoors features a propane BBQ close to the house and fire pit in the backyard. Relax on the back deck with a beverage listening to the breeze in the trees and watching birds at the feeder. Just off Palmerston Lake, there is a boat launch space just a five minute walk down the road. Two public beaches on the lake are great for swimming. There's lots to do nearby - hiking, swimming, boating, ATV trails, art studios, and much more. This is not only a rental property, it is a place to gather with my own family and friends. You may find personal mementos spread around and some artwork from young family members adorning the walls. Make yourself at home, feel free to use a board game, borrow a book to read during your visit, and use any spices or other kitchen ingredients you find in the cabinets. I hope you will find the relaxation and coziness in this space that I do.

Renfrew camping guide

Where to go

Algonquin Provincial Park

One of the oldest protected public parks in the world, Algonquin Provincial Park is home to more than 2,400 lakes, 750 miles of rivers and streams, 14 interpretive trails, and eight campgrounds. Whether car camping at one of the popular family-friendly RV sites or canoe camping in the backcountry, this is an exceptional destination for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and birdwatching.

Bonnechere Caves

This unique geological feature is one of the best sights in the area. The caves were formed by the power of the Bonnechere River over thousands of years and now feature funky rock formations and mesmerizing underground waterfalls. Visits are by guided tour only from spring to autumn. Those visiting in early October might spot bats getting into position for early hibernation.

Bon Echo Provincial Park

Bon Echo Provincial Park offers one of the most unique attractions of any Ontario provincial park, home to Mazinaw Lake and its surrounding rugged cliffs, which feature ancient Indigenous pictographs. Campers can take boat tours to see them up close and then hike to the top of the cliffs for an incredible view of the lake. The park also has excellent swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and biking.

When to go

Most provincial parks and outdoor attractions near Renfrew operate on a seasonal basis, from mid-May to mid-October. Campers should note that evenings can be pretty cold in May and June, and again in September and October. The mosquitoes and blackflies of Algonquin Provincial Park are legendary in their ferocity in late spring and early summer. Renfrew’s annual Renfrew Fair in September brings live music, carnival rides, and livestock showcases to town, while early October is the best time to admire the autumn colors around Algonquin (which gets very busy with weekend daytrippers).
